Trick or Treat traffic

We live in a busy- ish with young families area (3 primary schools and 2 high schools within walking distance). Was expecting a busy night tonight, even last year was busy.
We only had about half a dozen callers throughout all the evening. In the end we set up all the sweets on the porch next to the pumpkin 🎃
We speculated whether it's the pandemic, the weather or the Sunday night.
Was your area busy ?

Ina cul de sac but not one visitor this year

Thesearmsofmine · 31/10/2021 20:15

Nobody trick or treats in our area ever but we’ve been out elsewhere this evening and it was dead, barely any houses with pumpkins or decorations up in places that in the past have gone big on Halloween.

mawkthestork · 31/10/2021 20:16

We've only had 2 all night, we've not long moved here so I wasn't sure what to expect anyway but I thought there would be more than 2!

I've had none this year! Granted I'm rural but there is a village school 5 mins away and a housing estate just down the road. Normally we get loads as we are bigger houses and decorate extravagantly.

ParkheadParadise · 31/10/2021 20:17

I'm in a cul-de-sac with 6 houses.
Had about 30 kids tonight.

Notdoingthis · 31/10/2021 20:19

So busy. I bought 42 lollies. All gone in an hour. Broke open about 30 chocs, all gone in next 30 mins. Had to use up the party bag sweets I had bought for dd's birthday.

FortunaMajor · 31/10/2021 20:21

Had about 20 between 5-7 which is about normal for me.

The local organised 'scary walk' through the park was cancelled due to bad weather, which is normally a big event. That usually attracts the older kids, so it meant more older ones knocking than usual. They've been polite, so I'm not bothered. Not as many little ones out this time round. I'd say weather is a factor and also the first year after lockdown was also going to be quiet as a lot were unsure of it was ok to go ahead. We also have a lot of brilliant community events including a Halloween trail along the high street shops, so many are happy to do that instead rather than door knocking.

I usually keep going until 8, but had a kid throw an egg through the door just after 7, so decided to end it there. Shame one had to ruin it, all of the other kids have been very polite.

That sounds like good fun! My DD is now too grown up (her words) to go , so she was so excited to give the sweets away, bless her.

It was very busy when I took mine out trick or treating. A lot of houses made a real effort was nice to see.

FelicityBeedle · 31/10/2021 20:24

We had lots! Our first year here with a Halloween, obviously no one came last year. We had to order sweets on Deliveroo because we ran out!

ParkheadParadise · 31/10/2021 20:25

@thecatmother
It was. Dd2 is nearly 6 and was so excited about Halloween especially as my neighbour's dd was taking her out T&T. DH kept my wine glass topped up 🍷🍷 as I handed out the goodie bags

Bedsheets4knickers · 31/10/2021 20:26

Really busy here , it's been lovely to see all the children out .

PeachesPumpkin · 31/10/2021 20:27

Quiet here. No visitors despite pumpkins outside.

Pleasedonteliminate · 31/10/2021 20:28

We had had around 40 kids here

Hetyanni · 31/10/2021 20:28

Loads of kids out this year where I am, lots at our door and lots of people about when we were trick or treating. Has been lovely.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 31/10/2021 20:34

We had a constant stream between 5.15pm and 7pm, had 10 of the big party bags of haribo/fun size Mars bars/skittles and we've been left with about one bags worth.

SergeiL · 31/10/2021 20:35

I am guessing we had over 200 kids. At one point, I just kept the door open and stood their with the bucket. We restocked twice and ran out at 7pm! I am bloody exhausted!

SergeiL · 31/10/2021 20:36

200 kids!! Well, done, no wonder your exhausted. Pour yourself a large glass of something alcoholic 🍷🍷
thecatmother · 31/10/2021 20:39

I have so many sweets left ... I guess we just going to have to work through those ourselves 🤣

Same situation for us, moved here at the end of 2019. And had way more than I expected, ran out of sweets at 6.30! Deliveroo is a good shout, if it hadn't been a Sunday I would have sent DP to the shop.

Very busy here too! By about 7:15, quite a few houses had run out of sweets.

SergeiL · 31/10/2021 20:50

To be fair I am having a large Wine

NewbieAlert · 31/10/2021 20:50

Loads here too. South London borough and it was dry.
