Where to buy earrings for ears that easily infected/ itchy

Dd had her ears pierced a few months ago and they healed well but one is now getting itchy and pus on it. She’s back in her titanium studs but I’m wondering where to buy high quality earrings and what the safest metal is? Is it gold?
Thanks so much

Gold and silver would be best bet, she probably has a nickel allergy.

I gave up wearing earrings altogether as my ears couldn’t cope.Grin

CottonSock · 31/10/2021 17:53

I had to give them up too unfortunately. Don't let her suffer forever, nothing helped. I think my body rejected them, possible nickel allergy - but didn't improve with gold.

Have a look at Solace Jewellery

Oh thank you for that link- that sounds so good that they give your money back if it doesn’t work for sensitive ears!

I'd go for silver no nickel which she is likely be allergic too I've no suggestions but any jeweller really will have decent earrings.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 31/10/2021 17:57

My daughter has this and her ears were pierced December 2020! I have just bought some from accessorize which are Stirling silver, £18.50 she says they are helping already.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 31/10/2021 17:57

That link looks good. Will show it to my daughter. Thank you.

Implant grade titanium is best - I like the ones by Qualiti. There are a few places you can buy them online, as well as from professional piercers.

TheBodyPiercer · 31/10/2021 18:00

Silver often isn't good for people with sensitivities. Implant grade titanium or solid gold (not plated). When buying traditional earrings even if the front is gold the back can cause issues. Contact your closest UKAPP piercer and they'll be able to help.

Silver should never be worn long term as it oxidises and can permanently mark the skin black.

Seconding the rec for Solace jewellery. I had my ears pierced around 20 years ago but seemed to develop a sensitivity around 5 years ago which meant I barely wore earrings but I've bought some from Solace and not had an issue at all. I also bought a saline spray from Amazon for piercings which I use - no idea if it makes a difference though!

Girlwhowearsglasses · 31/10/2021 18:03

I find that standard earrings build up pus behind the butterflies - even hypoallergenic ones.

I have a pair of small gold hoops. They don’t hurt when you lie down a no they don’t have backs so the air gets to both sides of the earlobe

No gunk and free movement

Anonmousse · 31/10/2021 18:05

I would say platinum is the least allergenic metal because its the purest ....but its not cheap and doesn't really have "fun" or fashion options.
My DD has a similar problem with her ears. She's had them pierced for 5 years but never really been able to wear earrings.

justasking111 · 31/10/2021 18:09

One ear did this for months I was dabbing on surgical spirit regularly. Could only wear cheapies for a few hours. I'm fine with gold, never tried titanium

Chewbecca · 31/10/2021 18:13

I wear gold only, everything else I have tried irritates.

Somebodylikeyew · 31/10/2021 18:14

Another vote for solace; they’re the only company i can wear.

Bobsyer · 31/10/2021 18:14

You can get BPA piercing oil from Amazon which is good for easily irritated (but not infected) ears.

Mine sometimes decide to get all irritable for no reason at all and they’ve been done for donkeys years! Hers will likely settle down but be prepared with the saline solution, the piercing oil and hypoallergenic earrings.

swampytiggaa · 31/10/2021 18:17

Had my ears pierced when I was 10 so over 40 years ago now. Still have spells of irritation. Would quite fancy another piercing but don’t fancy more irritation.

dchange · 31/10/2021 18:18

Will recommend 18carat gold. This is what we give kids and they can sleep, bath and wearing it every time with no infection. It will be pricey, so have a budget of around £60 for simple stud

RainingYetAgain · 31/10/2021 18:20

Most of the time I can only wear gold. In the last few years I have been able to wear cheapies for a short while. But its many, many years since they were pierced. I can't wear any earings overnight though.

RandomDent · 31/10/2021 18:24

I can only wear titanium now. Silver turns my skin black. Gold - especially white gold - can have nickel in it.

weaselwords · 31/10/2021 18:30

I seem to only tolerate stainless steel earrings but any metal in my nose.

Serena1977 · 31/10/2021 18:32

titanium only these days. Get mine from a local piercer/tattooist

makelovenotpetrol · 31/10/2021 18:33

Titanium is the best metal for sensitive ears as it's naturally hypoallergenic. Avoid all other metals and fork out the bit extra for that.

Jeh45 · 31/10/2021 18:33

I have a nickel allergy and can't wear any costume metal jewellery for longer than a few hours. Silver and gold absolutely fine. Its annoying as I have some lovely earrings I can't wear now but sticking to gold and silver definitely does the trick for me.
