Do you go out every day?

Just that really. I'm not very good at staying at home. I have a child free weekend every other so me and my partner will always go out and about. Coffee shops, walking, shopping etc. Same when the kids are here really.

Chatting to my neighbour yesterday and she commented on the fact that we never sit still 😂. She's a lovely lady but is very much a home bird. Got me wondering if we are quite unusual and that people do tend to spend a lot of time at home pottering around the house...🤔🤔

In the winter I try to give us one day each weekend at home. We all need the downtime. We do homework / crafts / bake / watch films.

Mine are at school full time and x3 evenings a week aren't home until 6.30pm. They need a break.

When the weather is nicer, it's rare for us to have a whole day indoors though.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 31/10/2021 10:50

Every single day. Without fail. Pissing it down. Boiling hot.

Mine have same routine

But there’s many many hours in a day!

My two manage to utterly chill, watch films, play etc

But I’ll always get them out for at least a stroll to local shop and back. Usually more

Oftenithinkaboutit · 31/10/2021 10:51

Going for a walk isn’t not chilling and relaxing

user1497787065 · 31/10/2021 10:51

I go out when necessary and try and do all errands in one trip. I love a whole day at home and don't feel the need to go out for coffee, lunch etc unless meeting someone specifically.

Actually, thinking about it, I look forward to having a whole day at home more than a day out. I haven't always been like this just as I have got older I think.

TokyoSushi · 31/10/2021 10:52

Pre pandemic, I used to stay in for the whole day twice a year or so, now I've got so used to being here I probably have a stay at home day about once a fortnight, its quite a big change for me!

I always have plans to go out, but by the time I've done my hours (WFH) and done the housework that needs to be done, the day's over and it's time to start dinner. I do have a hobby two evenings a week, and get out to go to the supermarket and when I visit family, but there are always at least a couple of days each week where I don't go out at all. I don't mind. If it gets to 3 days in a row I start getting cabin fever and I just have to get out .. but I love reading, watching TV and having a nice long bath, so there's plenty to do if I'm not working or doing housework!

JustJustWhy · 31/10/2021 11:09

Are you my twin? Actually maybe not. Mine is at the edge of a loch in Scotland!

megletthesecond · 31/10/2021 11:11

Yes. Always minimum 10k steps.
Even if I don't have a big reason to go out l'll do something like jogging to the recycling bank, litter picking, cash point etc.

maddiemookins16mum · 31/10/2021 11:14

Most days. I can WFH but go to the office at least 3/4 times a week plus shopping etc. If I stay in for more than 2 days I get cabin fever.

operatinginstructions · 31/10/2021 11:15

Interesting responses, tbh the only reason I've kept my gym/pool/spa membership going is to give me a reason to leave the house during the week, on my terms, no commitment to a certain time etc..

I've stopped using the gym so much as I've got the three pieces of equipment I like using here now so just go to swim.

I like hill walking, but not alone, like cycling but not alone on the roads etc., etc.. I really struggle to commit to meeting up Mon-Fri due to work hence I end up not going out.

The pandemic has definitely compounded it, my social life has not recovered yet, apart from around my hobby which I only manage once or twice a week.

liveforsummer · 31/10/2021 11:15

I have to go out as we have a dog however lockdown made me realise I actually quite like sitting down, I'd just never had the chance to experience it before.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 31/10/2021 11:17

@DDUW

I don't go out but I am in no way a homebody. I don't really understand it when people potter at home. I haven't grasped what it is they are actually doing when they potter. I much preferred being outside in all weathers.
Confused You don’t go out But in no way are you a home body?
NalPolishRemover · 31/10/2021 11:18

Not everyday. I work in my office in the city most days or at least 3 days a week. At the moment it's 4 or 5 days

I'm lucky that we have a spacious house & a large beautiful garden so at weekends I love a day of pottering. I love our house & I'm very happy in it.
Usually over the weekend I go out one of the days & stay put the other but I easily could spend that day gardening or just being in the garden. It's lashing rain here today so garden won't be happening. I do have to get groceries though so will be out later

Can I ask what symptoms you had with low vitamin D and how it was diagnosed please?

@itssquidstella

I don't understand how people who stay at home all day get enough exercise. Even if you do an online gym class, your daily step count must be really low (unless you live in a mansion). I feel twitchy and horrible without the 'incidental exercise' I get from walking, on top of the actual exercise I do.
I have to go out Monday to Friday, I walk the kids to and from school, so I get exercise then. I'll occasionally go out for a longer walk at the weekend, but I don't feel like I need to. Tbf I have joint problems, so lots of walking just means lots of pain for me, even more so when it's wet and cold.
SpiceRat · 31/10/2021 11:39

No, I’m a total hermit. I have anxiety so it’s hard for me to actually get out of the house but once I do I’m ok and enjoy myself. I recharge and get energy being at home and going out really takes a lot out of me even if it’s just coffee at a friends. I do loads around the house and have a big garden though, and do walk the dog. I’m trying to do more “things” since having the baby though and getting her used to socialising she she’s not an introverted mess like me I suppose lol. Money is another factor, I couldn’t afford to go for lunch and coffee every day.

PrincessPaws · 31/10/2021 11:43

I love being at home, and life is very overwhelming, so if I have a day where I can potter about in my own space I love it

Extremely tired with lots of joint pain, particularly in my hips and insomnia - well woken up by joint pain and then my mind started whirring. I started to think OMG, I sit down at my desk so much that my hips are knackered (have been working up to 50 hours a week for the last few months).

Joint pain went within ten days of starting the supplements, my GP prescribed a high dose for ten days, now I am just on the recommended daily dose.

It is a side effect of a drug I am on though, although my work life doesn't help. Work/life balance is crap this year.

operatinginstructions · 31/10/2021 11:50

Sorry missed part of the question, diagnosed by blood tests after my consultant asked my GP to do them in addition to the monthly ones I have to monitor kidney/liver function due to the side effects of my other drugs.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 31/10/2021 13:39

@DDUW

A homebody is somebody who enjoys being in the domestic environment, no?
I don’t get it

You don’t go out
You are not a homebody

So does that mean you don’t go out despite not like being at home?

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 31/10/2021 13:39

We go for a walk at least once a day. My partner had been known to send me out when he notices my mood dipping! I find that going out makes me appreciate home even more, so after a quick outing I’m looking forward to a cuppa on the sofa. But after a morning at home sitting on the sofa is the last thing I want to do! I’ll pop into the village or out for a coffee, nothing major but seeing and interacting with people keeps me buoyant. Late afternoons in lockdown were so bleak – the prospect of yet another night in! We have a baby now and I’m very aware of the need to get out during daylight hours.

Staying in the house definitely has an effect on my mood. Especially if I don't shower and dress properly. Sometimes a quick pop out to see other faces is all you need x
