Do you go out every day?

Just that really. I'm not very good at staying at home. I have a child free weekend every other so me and my partner will always go out and about. Coffee shops, walking, shopping etc. Same when the kids are here really.

Chatting to my neighbour yesterday and she commented on the fact that we never sit still 😂. She's a lovely lady but is very much a home bird. Got me wondering if we are quite unusual and that people do tend to spend a lot of time at home pottering around the house...🤔🤔

I’m happy to have a day or two at home, or I was pre DD. Would always have to walk the dog (we sadly lost him this summer Sad ) but other than that could quite happily amuse myself with reading, bit of cooking or baking, tv etc. Not for days on end but for a weekend yes.

Now with dd I find it much easier to get out if we can, so go to a toddler group or the library or the park etc. I don’t go out to work anymore, just do some freelance work from home a couple of days a week/ evenings/ weekends - I do miss going out to work in some ways although even on those days I have to go out to get DD to childcare, ans I’ll usually make a point of taking a break at lunch to have a quick walk.

nordica · 31/10/2021 08:42

Only for a walk or something. No way I could afford daily coffee shops, meals out etc. and prefer to do nearly all my shopping online. My area is not great and I don't drive, so there's not much to do here unless I take the train into London (live on the outskirts of London).

I love being at home anyway and after work and housework are done, there's only a couple of hours to relax on weekdays.

Youcancallmeval · 31/10/2021 08:44

@Bagelsandbrie - I wasn't working this week, so have had a lovely week of pottering around. I've sorted out a massive box of photos, painted a room, read a couple of books, caught up on lots of admin things I needed to do, watched a few films with the teenager etc. I'm very good at entertaining myself.

When my health permits I’m out every day.

I suppose the big difference with me is I don’t want to visit shops or go out for coffee. I only go in shops if I have to so order a lot of stuff online. I have always hated shopping.

I do love walking in the countryside, I live on the edge of a market town and it’s a few mins to open fields and woods. I walk with a couple of women friends, alone or with DH. I did a 12 mile bike ride to a country house a few weeks ago as was having a very good day health wise.

My perfect day is cold and sunny with a rucksack with a flask and sandwiches and a long walk in remote hills bumping very occasionally in to other walkers but the less the better. DH and I sang a Halloween song from our childhood in the woods yesterday and looked for a small fallen branch for a craft project I’m doing.

I love being indoors, especially on days like this. I think I was some sort of hibernating animal in my last life.

Zenithbear · 31/10/2021 08:51

Yes several times a day
I work on site once a week, walk the dogs twice a day,, go to the gym, swimming, yoga etc 3/4 times a week, meet friends for coffee once a week or so, go out for a meal with dp once a week and pub at least twice a week, we go away a lot etc etc.
We're both very sociable but do like a cosy night in.

confusedofengland · 31/10/2021 08:54

Absolutely. I can't stand the thought of a whole day at home, I get very bored & lonely. I take the DC out every day, whatever the weather, even if just for a walk.

Recently had Covid & had to isolate with the DC for 10 days. I struggled so much & got quite depressed. Especially as DH was not affected & went out every day, it made me feel very low to see him going out while we couldn't.

CurryLover55 · 31/10/2021 08:55

I need to go out more. We live in a beautiful part of the country & there are so many places I haven’t visited or been to more than a couple of times. DD12 is back to school tomorrow after 2 weeks halfterm so that will be my chance.

MiniPumpkin · 31/10/2021 08:56

I’m out most days, usually make an effort to stay in at least once a week, and I look forward not having to be anywhere. I love going out but have a 4 month old and 3.5year old so getting my life packed up and out the door is a real achievement 🤣 I feel like my days at home are for rest, even though need to do mundane things like housework
During 2020 I went stir crazy having to stay in due to lockdown

Justcannotbearsed · 31/10/2021 08:57

Bought a new house with a garden, can happily now spend a day every so often not leaving the garden and pottering in it with the plants.

But that’s probably 3 times a year. I get cabin fever and have to go for a walk, or do something every day.

EerilyDisembodied · 31/10/2021 08:58

I don't go out spending money all the time, maybe a coffee once a week. However I love pottering round the shops even if I'm not buying anything and will happily go into town (10 mins walk) rather than order online. I also go for walks, alone or with friends, go to my allotment, the gym, taxi my teen DCs around.

whatswithtodaytoday · 31/10/2021 08:59

Yes, I go out every day unless ill or very, very bad weather. I get claustrophobic and need to feel the air on my face. My partner is completely the opposite and would happily stay in bed all day with the curtains closed if he could.

MedusasBadHairDay · 31/10/2021 09:00

What did you do at home? I’d love to be able to happily spend more time at home but after an hour or so of tv / housework etc I’m bored stiff.

You need a hobby. I always have so many things I want to do that require being at home. I've got sewing projects, embroidery projects, books I want to read, art projects, films/TV shows I've been meaning to watch, writing projects etc. I can't imagine ever being bored at home.

I think that’s where I’m going wrong. Going out for a walk / going out for a coffee and people watching IS my hobby. BlushGrin
EerilyDisembodied · 31/10/2021 09:05

I do a lot of home stuff too, reading, crochet, cooking and baking, the one thing I don't do much of is watching films and TV. I don't get bored at home, just love getting out and about.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/10/2021 09:06

I go out every day. Staying in makes me twitchy and tense after a while - if we don't have plans (and we usually do) then I need a long walk, pick up some groceries, maybe have lunch out...then after that I can relax and enjoy being at home.

Silverswirl · 31/10/2021 09:09

I hate staying in and actually get really sad and panicky if I don’t get out.
Love seeing the outside and experiencing new places.
Lockdown was horrible although I did discover many new beautiful walks - just the not driving but that was awful after a couple of weeks because it became the same walls over and over. 100x better when I could drive a short distance to walk.
Snow is also horrid because I’m trapped in then too when the road are too horrible to drive in or walk on!

longtimemarried · 31/10/2021 09:13

Yes I go out every day, widowed and live alone, its nice to see people out and about having a walk etc.,

itssquidstella · 31/10/2021 09:13

I don't understand how people who stay at home all day get enough exercise. Even if you do an online gym class, your daily step count must be really low (unless you live in a mansion). I feel twitchy and horrible without the 'incidental exercise' I get from walking, on top of the actual exercise I do.

Same here. I’d worry I’d give myself a stroke or heart disease just spending days being so sedentary at home. I go for a brisk walk for at least half an hour every single day.

Honestly, I lost a stone in lockdown and all from my modest semi detached. I did 20,000 steps per day. I don't have the time and energy for that at all now I'm back at work and it's all back on.
NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 31/10/2021 09:24

"I do but I long for a day of peace at home! I actually have fantasies about it."

@Magicalwoodlands but you were so very rude to me and other posters that suggested you have a day at home on your other thread. Now you say you actually fantasise about it?

Magicalwoodlands · 31/10/2021 09:26

Slight difference between a day of peace on my own and a day with a bored ten month old at home @NigelSlatersXmasTaters

It’s a shame you don’t understand the difference. Let’s not have a silly argument on someone else’s thread.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2021 09:28

Yes. I find being at home dull. I'm very glad I don't WFH, I'd go insane.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 31/10/2021 09:28

Haha, I'm not arguing with you. Just as I wasn't on your other thread. Bemused maybe by the way you respond to people. So rude.

Bored 10 month old indeed. Christ, wait til he's 8 😂
