Lovely biscuits Prok hope you get negative on your test.

Thanks MissC Not on anything yet but appointment is on Friday for results and preliminary treatment plan mark 2. Had impression they will operate and possibly 3 weeks radiotherapy before hormone drugs but was all quite rushed so not sure.

DD stayed home today, would not go to school but at least did masses of study and school were understanding. She has opted to move English sets and loves the new teacher. I think she is probably nervous about her physics mock, she asked to do a second one, and thought she could do more from home.

DS has had a haircut, thought would get it done before we lockdown again, currently saying we won't but we have heard that line before.

DH is picking up my Boden parcel, got a zip up fleecey jacket as I need front fastening things for after operation and some slippers. Then he is off to IKEA to get me a pink reclining chair I can stay / sleep on after my operation as will have drains in. Its in the same range as our bed so will co-ordinate quite well. And ordered 10 million pillows and cushions and fleecy blankets. There is only one chair in stock in the whole of the south of England so hope DH manages to get it, won't let me reserve it.

Silkieschickens · 30/11/2021 19:25

The covid thing reminds me of my parents, my mother would always insist no-one in either family had ever had any health problems. Then my Dad would say apart from the people who died young and start listing them and there are quite a lot of them. Then an argument would ensue.

Silkieschickens · 30/11/2021 19:50

Just heard a cardboard box crashing on to the floor from the dining table and then Silkiecat meowing. DD has gone to offer cat and cardboard box rescue services.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/11/2021 21:08

Perhaps you should fix little parachute type thingies to Silkiecats boxes to make crashing softer?
When I get out of here I will:

  • clean
  • decorate
  • bake
(I have a slight fear of turning into the corona version of Mary Mallon - in fact I dreamed about this last night and usually I never remember my dreams)
MissConductUS · 30/11/2021 21:23

Silkie, people tend to have selective memories when it comes to family medical histories. It helps them to feel less vulnerable to disease.

We had more snow showers here this afternoon. The long-range forecast is for more precipitation in the first half of winter than the second half.

The annoying thing (well, not really but YKWIM) is that everyone around DM did get Covid. Despite daily LFT's she still tested negative, although she is triple jabbed so that may explain it.

silkie I hope your DH has survived. I've just braved a different IKEA to my usual haunt and it was desolate, no stock, hardly any Christmas items and very surly staff.

I'm currently parked in a car park waiting for the concert goers to put in an appearance. There's DS and 3 friends and they're a real hoot. They've been very democratically passing the phone round so they each get a turn at cueing up a song on Spotify, so we've gone everywhere from MegaDeath to Abba. This in amongst gentle ribbing of DS's sense of direction and a particular coat one of them is wearing which has been deemed as "Victorian garb" Grin

Silkieschickens · 30/11/2021 21:57

DD added weetabix to Silkiecats box, Confused she said it would make the box stronger. We will see.

DH did not even attempt IKEA in the end as it said motorway was closed. He will try tomorrow but from online it does look pretty raided.

Silkieschickens · 30/11/2021 22:00

In other important news I have ordered a light up Christmas penguin from Dunelm.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/12/2021 07:47

Haven’t been to an IKEA since I was a child. Hope your DH manages to get your chair @Silkieschickens.

I fancy a light up penguin too. Saw lovely ones in a garden centre recently but they were a bit out of my price range.

Silkieschickens · 01/12/2021 08:07

Thanks Lemons You should get a light up penguin, the Dunelm one is here and 25 pounds which seemed ok to me but I am not sure what price a light up penguin should be.

The Australian professor has emailed me already this morning and seems to be introducing me to all his team, its very nice but in 2 weeks I am probably going to be in surgery and then half dead for a while but its very interesting work and DD who always said I am not going to follow you into economics has now told me she is doing economics A level and wants to hear all the details of this work. She is weakening. Grin

sproutsandparsnips · 01/12/2021 13:00

I'm loving hearing your news Silkie especially your penguin news!
I have managed to put up Christmas tree and FIL (affectionately known within our family as 'the Christmas elf') is helping me with the other stuff which I find very tedious but he is very artistic and loves it.
I should be working on my dissertation. I have done approx 45 mins work today and written approx 20 words but I suppose it's better than nothing......
In other news I have made the first batch of mince pies.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/12/2021 13:53

Silkie As far as MN has taught me Weetabix is a very heavey biscuit, so it might help to keep Silkiebox stable.

No result as yet.
Those at the office have just mailed round that Glühwein is ready ... and where am I?

Hamjamwich · 01/12/2021 15:02

There is an exterior door in our kitchen. It needs painting before it can be hung. There is now only space for one person to sit down to eat. The weather has been foul since DH bought it.
I wanted a composite door.

mathanxiety · 01/12/2021 17:47

That makes a lot of sense, MissC.

My local classical music station is playing a lot of really dreary music today, mainly by second rate 20th century composers, along with unnecessarily atonal takes on what would otherwise be perfectly nice Christmas carols. No Percy Grainger so far though, so there's that.

MissConductUS · 01/12/2021 18:41

Welcome, @Hamjamwich, and thanks for sharing your home remodeling news. The last time we had to replace a front door we went with a fiberglass one, but we were able to paint it after it was installed.

Math, if you don't get a hard freeze for a few weeks they might survive. Here the general rule is not to plant trees after mid-October. Re the classical music offerings, I'm leaning more on Spotify playlists these days. That way I can skip any selections I don't care for. This worked really well when taking DD back to uni last weekend.

Prok, the Weetabix reference stumped me too. It's a breakfast cereal, correct?

OP posts:
Lemonsandlemonade · 01/12/2021 18:50

@MissConductUS yes it’s a breakfast cereal. When you add milk to it the bricks things become paste like.

If you leave any in the bowl and don’t wash it up straight away after you have eaten it it you will need a chisel to scrape it off.

I love that penguin!

MissConductUS · 01/12/2021 19:08

Lemons, thanks for the explanation. Pancake batter is similar. When allowed to dry it becomes an industrial strength adhesive.

The CDC has just announced the first confirmed case of omicron covid in the US. The good news is that the patient was vaccinated, doesn't seem to have spread it to close contacts, and is showing mild and improving symptoms.

I like the penguin too, but somehow it doesn't really say "Christmas" to me.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/12/2021 19:12

Still no result.
I sooooo want to go in to work tomorrow.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/12/2021 21:11

Result is in - still positive.
Which means another test in 48 h and staying in my room and working from home.
No cleaning, no baking, no decorating.
No supervising DS with his work.

MissConductUS · 01/12/2021 21:15

I'm so sorry to hear that, Prok. The PCR tests are so sensitive that even viral fragments will set them off. Better luck with your next test.

OP posts:
Nydj · 01/12/2021 21:19

Oh no, Prok that’s a right pain.

I have eaten a whole packet of bahlsen chocolate orange biscuits and enjoyed it all.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/12/2021 21:40

Nydj DH gave me a consolitary (sp?) piece of chocolate.

And I can work from home - about the only thing I can do.
And I said expressive things, which I will not teach you.

Silkieschickens · 01/12/2021 22:03

Sorry to hear that Prok

DH went late to IKEA to try and get the recliner I want for after my operation, says in stock, 3 left here, but DH said they told him none and he is coming back with nothing as he got there at store close time. 3 hours wasted and no recliner. There is no other store with it in south or middle of England. Sad

lunarlandscape · 01/12/2021 22:55

Sorry @Prokupatuscrakedatus, I hope the test is negative on Friday.

@Silkieschickens - light up penguins are my kind of news.

I usually put the outdoor lights and wreath up on the first day of advent but got distracted today.

Apart from a happy hour at bootcamp in frosty sunshine this morning, I spent all day at my desk wfh. Lost three hours work when my computer froze and had to redo them, unpaid. My bum now feels twice as wide as it was when I got up this morning, and I was so busy I just stuck some oven chips and breaded cod in the oven for tea that had been lurking in the freezer since before the DC went back to uni.

Ah well. Got the work done and sent off, and am now in bed finishing off another work project.

MissConductUS · 01/12/2021 22:56

Prok, did you hear the bomb exploding?
