Congratulations @Pheebs2021!

Silkieschickens · 28/11/2021 10:45

Congratulations @Pheebs2021! Bear

MissConductUS · 28/11/2021 11:30

It's lovely to see you again, @Pheebs2021, and congratulations!

DD and I are up and I'm about to wake DH. I'm hoping we'll be on the road in an hour or so. Weather looks good for the drive.

I’ve got a long list of dull things to do; change beds, make veggie chilli, clean kitchen, make lunchboxes, finish ironing. As I type this I realise that writing it down doesn’t actually achieve any of these things!

HildaTablet · 28/11/2021 11:33

Congratulations Pheebs Flowers But steady on, that's a bit exciting Grin

Haven't been on here for a while but I've been enjoying everyone's happenings (with continued sympathies to all the Covid sufferers and a special shout-out to Silkie).

It's very cold but bright today and DH and I are going to try and get the last of the apple tree leaves off the lawn and into the green recycling bin in time for the last garden waste collection of the year. I think that's about as dull as it gets - do I win the thread?

Silkieschickens · 28/11/2021 11:49

Thanks Hilda I think you do win the thread and the prize is a series of very dull emojis. 🧦🏷📎📍

And clean the inside of the windows…

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 12:03

Silkie Socks, paperclips, letters and a .... thing?

HildaTablet · 28/11/2021 13:27

Thanks Silkie Grin

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/11/2021 13:50

@Pheebs2021 congratulations.

Currently sat in car as DS is fast asleep. He had a very unsettled night last night.

Bought a chicken to roast as DH isn’t 100 percent

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 13:58

I have removed both sleeves of off my Dobby sweater - to long, uncomfortable and not really neccessary and I am now unravveling them.
I know you are full of envy and admiration for my adventurous life!

Nydj · 28/11/2021 16:42

I was going to practice my hobby this afternoon - can’t say what it is as it would be too outing 🤣🤣sorry, I couldn’t resist, I’m sure I’ve done the same ‘joke’ before and the hobby is pottery. I made vast quantities of popcorn and DH and I watched a Christmas film instead.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/11/2021 17:22

Apparently the poker night was "the best night ever" and DS is very grateful, so that's nice.

He's going to a concert on Tuesday night in a city 90 minutes drive away with 3 friends. I've persuaded him that as a new driver it would be better if I gave them a lift which they have gratefully accepted. This gives me 4 hours to fritter away in IKEA, and I may even treat myself to a McDonald's while I'm at it.

Imagine, 4 hours with no bugger talking to me and free to do what I want

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 17:51

Champagne Sounds very lovely indeed
My lot have started to write mails and whatsapps into my isolation.

Nydj That is a great hobby. I have watched people doing pottery and it is fascinating and very soozing (to watch that is).

Silkieschickens · 28/11/2021 18:09

I think its socks, a luggage tag, a paperclip and a drawing pin. A letter would have been far too exciting an emoji. Smile

We had Sunday lunch and DH baked a chocolate and pear cake and took DS and the cake down to his friends. DS did not know he was going and at first he hid under his blanket refusing to move then DH said its to see your old friend and DH left and returned 5 minutes later to find DS by the door, teeth and hair brushed, shoes on keen to go. The Mum has sent us a picture of DS there with one of her geckos.

DD has been out with friends all day and has just returned. DH also collected the x box with 2 wireless controllers and we will give to DS later and can play with his friend once us old people have worked out how it works. DD will probably help and look at us like Hmm old people. DH is just off to collect DS and taking a bottle of champagne to her as she has been so kind and DH being French always has a lot of champagne here.

I did some Duolingo and the Australian professor has messaged me again with more work.

Nydj · 28/11/2021 19:02

Oh, I was just wondering if there had been any news from the Australian professor. I am glad he is keeping you occupied Silkies.

Thank you Prok it is a very calming hobby - even when things go wrong (which is very, very often the case for me. The clay can be re-cycled until it is fired in the kiln so I kid myself that it isn’t that expensive a hobby. In reality, it’s a stupidly expensive hobby as I don’t have a kiln and have to take classes not only to learn and improve but also to fire and glaze things.

Weather forecast says 80% chance of snow here in the next hour but idont think there will be any snow at all here.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 19:09

We are having 'Graupeln' - no idea what that is in English (google gives me 3 translations). Like hail but smaller and less forceful.

Nydj · 28/11/2021 19:26

Is that like sleet in English, Prok?

MissConductUS · 28/11/2021 19:33

Champage, that was lovely of you to offer. It took a few years before we were all comfortable with DS doing long highway drives. He's got the hang of it now. Smile

ZZ, I hope you're DD is on the road by now.

We got back from our road trip about an hour ago. On the way up the roads were empty and we flew up there in 2 hours and 15 minutes, practically a record. On the way back we drove through some snow showers and traffic really started to pick up around 11:00 AM. It took us a bit over three hours to get back, which isn't terrible. Waterbury, CT was the worst bit. DS followed us as far as Hartford, then split off for Boston. He made it in four hours, which is amazing. I'm sure the roads are a nightmare now.

I had half of a leftover calzone that DD never ate for lunch. DH has gone out for a walk and I may have a nap. I drove both ways so am a bit knackered.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 19:55

@Nydj Google said hail/snow/ice pellets - sleet seems to be wetter (I love semantics) Anyway it's gone again and now we have ordinary rain.

I will go to bed early, because I am back at work tomorrow trying to start at 7.30.

HelenaJustina · 28/11/2021 20:47

My dull list was all accomplished. Along with Friday’s home learning with DC4, maths homework with DC2 and 4 loads of laundry. Too too thrilling!

Silkieschickens · 29/11/2021 00:01

We got more food for the cat but she needs to get off the box before she can eat it and she is very attached to the box. Grin

DS had a lovely time at his friends house so did his friend, his Mum offered DS food but DS said no I eat at my house but he was asleep by the time he got home. He did at least have a big Sunday roast lunch and cake afterwards.

Lemonsandlemonade · 29/11/2021 00:31

Wish my DS was your cat right now @Silkieschickens 🙈 he has a cold and is a bit chesty so is finding it hard to sleep.

DH is in the living room snoring. We have fallen out. 😬

I have work tomorrow DM will have DS if he is well enough where I have to be all singing all dancing with everything.

I just want to sleep.

Silkieschickens · 29/11/2021 00:53

Silkiecat is currently howling for DH who is sleeping, be careful what you wish for Lemons Grin

Can you give your DS to your DH and they can be two grumpy boys together and you go and get some sleep. Or dose them both up on calpol. Wink

MissConductUS · 29/11/2021 14:33

The house feels a bit empty now that the kids are gone. We did a quick Zoom call with them and my MIL last night. It was lovely having everyone home for a few days.

DS has decided to give up his job at uni as a residence assistant next spring, so he will have to move to a new room in a different dorm. He and a friend are going to room together. The RA job is actually a lot of work, so I don't mind him giving it up for his last semester. He's going to have to move his rental fridge somehow.
