It’s wonderful to catch up on all your activities Smile I’m beginning to feel somewhat better. DH went back to work yesterday as I finally felt able to look after DD. Unfortunately, they (DH & DD) have both now tested positive Shock It’s really increasing my anxiety as DH has mild asthma.

sueelleker · 27/11/2021 17:43

I did have one Black Friday bargain. The posh cat food our two demand prefer was 30% off. I have never seen it discounted before, so we ordered months worth and saved about $120.
So of course they'll now go off it Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/11/2021 17:57

sue Yes, exactly! That is almost obligatory! Grin

Silkieschickens · 27/11/2021 18:06

DD has been off socialising with friends all today. I told her that DH would be taking her brother down to see his old best friend tomorrow and she replied well I was also planning to go out with my friends tomorrow. I said that's fine. I had expected the constant socialising would continue.

DH is sleepy after having the covid booster yesterday and apparently they asked him if he wanted flu jab at same time and he said if its a 2 for 1 deal and free yes so he got it though says he now feels like someone who had 2 jabs at the same time. Hope he will be OK to drive DS tomorrow, last time he was recovered after 24 hours but did not have two at once. I think he will try. My friend said she could drive here too but don't want to put her to any more trouble and currently our house is a bit trashed by small animals and people.

Hospital appointment came through for Friday morning.

Capital I have mild asthma and had covid and its worth getting a pulse oximeter from Amazon (one with decent reviews) to monitor oxygen levels, worse mine got was around 93 - you are supposed to call 111 at 93/94 but took an hour to get through and then they said stay sitting up. Ideally should be 95 or over. Its useful to have as you can see if there is a problem or not, I was slightly breathless but fine and I think the overwhelming majority with mild asthma are fine. Mild asthma did not get put in the CV group I think as they found it wasn't linked. Call 111 if its get below 95 but he should be fine. I found anti-histamines useful if allergies trigger him. Glad you are feeling better. MissC is our thread nurse and knows far more than me.

I slept most of day after watching Below Deck last night. Now have some e-mails to reply to.

MissConductUS · 27/11/2021 19:03

ZZ, is there snow in your forecast tomorrow?

Capital, I'm glad you're feeling better, but sorry to hear about your DD and DH. Mild asthma is not a huge concern at this point, just make sure he has his medicine at hand and takes it as needed. As Silkie said, a good pulse oximeter is essential. Most of my time these days is taken up with budgets, spreadsheets, staff rotas, and arguing with idiot doctors liaising with other medical staff.

Sue, you are quite right, that's a risk I had not considered. If they go off it, we will have to see if hunger changes their little minds.

DH and I are going to take DD back to uni tomorrow rather than add the hour to DS's trip. WIth the traffic around Boston, he needs to leave early and go straight back.

I watched the most charming movie on Amazon Video, about an eccentric, Victorian era British illustrator name Louis Wain. Benedict Cumberbatch makes me slightly weak in the knees, and the movie was really lovely. Bonus points if you're a cat lover. It's said that his illustrations had a lot to do with people keeping cats as pets and treating them better.

The Electrical Life of Louis Wain’ on Amazon Prime, a Loose and Lively Benedict Cumberbatch Biopic, Heavy on the Whimsy

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/11/2021 19:23

That film is not yet available to me not even in the cinema. I'll have to wait till next year.

DD made me get an oximeter - I have been at 99% throughout. This whole infection remained firmly in my nose and throat. And now it is gone and I want out!

capitalcapitalcapital · 27/11/2021 20:10

Thanks so much @Silkieschickens and @MissConductUS We do have an oximeter which is reassuring. Lots of my anxiety is about health so covid is just my worst nightmare!

My DD has been reading to me today. It’s lovely to hear her progress. She’s really proud of herself too Smile

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/11/2021 20:59

Been catching up on thread.

First aid training was good. Went out after first aid. Was fun. We drank and ate in a lovely local pub. The party was continuing but I came away.

DS is poorly with another cold. His chest sounds like it’s rattling a bit. So I will keep a close eye.

HelenaJustina · 27/11/2021 21:06

My new vacuum was marvellous, it has little headlights and the suction was considerably better than the old one.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/11/2021 21:20

Helena Congratulations on your vaccum!
We had a Vorwerk Kobold that died after more than 45 years of usage. The service people were sorry they could not repair it.
I wanted to make do with a broom (no carpets) but DD bought one for herself.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/11/2021 21:59

Going out with my work crew made me realise how much me and DH need a date night.

I just need some time with my husband 1-1.

MissConductUS · 27/11/2021 22:48

That's grand, Helena, what kind did you get? I'm a Miele canister vac person myself. I'm a bit surprised you didn't call it a Hoover. Smile

The men are grilling burgers and we're having the leftover holiday mashed potatoes with them.

Got back a while ago from DS's rugby Christmas do. They went to a pool hall (!) then I picked him up and we went for food and golf in the range. They have a game tomorrow.
I don't know when I will get round to getting the decorations down from the attic and putting them up, but it will definitely be after Monday when I am doing a long day in work. Went for a long walk this afternoon with a friend. There were many fallen trees.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 27/11/2021 23:43

We're due for snow on Monday. In my head today is Sunday and it's delightful realizing that it's not. We actually did clear away most of the leaves though, and brought wood into the garage, put away summer stuff, cleared the lean-to for a car, etc.

DD is trying to decide when to leave tomorrow for college, and writing an essay, and digging out winter gear.

DS cleaned the insides of all the windscreens including his sister's. He also earnt some community service hours for taking someone's garden waste to the dump. I've no idea what's wrong with him but I'm sure he'll be back to normal 16yo behaviour soon.

I made a cottage pie from beef leftovers and am making stock from beef bones, then I'm going to add veg and gravy leftovers and make soup. I'm not sure what's wrong with me either - all totally out of character.

Silkieschickens · 28/11/2021 05:57

Hope your DS gets better soon Lemons

We had fish and chips for dinner and DS had a giant fish and chips which he was very happy with and he nearly ate the whole fish by himself Shock DH and I shared another giant fish and I had some leftover for Silkiecat. Silkiecat found it hard to decide whether to eat her tuna first or the cod first.

DH was feeling rough after his double vaccine but has slept well.

mathanxiety · 28/11/2021 06:45

We had our third full turkey dinner tonight, and now the turkey is well and truly finished. Dcat went nuts for turkey and wouldn't take no for an answer to her very insistent begging.

I managed to throw a catnip toy of Dcat's into the laundry this evening, and found Dcat later rolling around on the floor with a top of mine from the drying rack and a woolly sock, purring loudly. I think I may have to wash everything from the drying rack again.

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/11/2021 06:48

Thanks @Silkieschickens he is snotty and chesty and been awake since 5 which isn’t like him. Worst I am working tomorrow 🙈 cue me guilt tripping myself. He is ok within himself.

Haven’t had fish and chips for ages.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 07:14

Never had fish and chips ( an expensive speciality of ethnic cuisine + we are nowhere near the sea )

I am back at work tomorrow.

Lemonsandlemonade · 28/11/2021 07:29

Very good fish and chips are delicious. Most towns round here have a chip shop or two even rurally.

In Wales many people ( not me) would have fish chips and curry sauce.

Woo @Prokupatuscrakedatus does that mean out of isolation?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 07:59

@Lemonsandlemonade - Well no, just that my sick note runs out, I have no symptoms since Friday and can work from home (even better if IT manages to fix the problem with my microphone).

My get out of jail test is on Tuesday at 12 o'clock + 24 / 36 h for results and I am hopefully allowed out into the streets again.

HelenaJustina · 28/11/2021 08:14

It’s a Shark Miss, I’d been looking around for a while and then snapped this one up on Black Friday. This morning, as I look at the carpets in daylight, they do look cleaner.

It’s morning lateral flow test time for those of us who have not had or who do not currently have Covid. And I’m off to Mass for the first Sunday of Advent. Happy New (Catholic) Year everyone!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/11/2021 08:38

@HelenaJustina - Happy new year to you too!

I just ventured out into the rest of the flat:
food - shopping, storing, cooking, waste disposal ist taken care of and so is laundry and the cleaning of sanitary objects.
Everything else is 'non-essential housework women are socialized to do' and therefore not done.

Yesterday we woke up to 4" of snow - my. grandsons were sleeping over and it made their day.
When they had gone & I'd seen to mum I cleaned the bathroom. I pulled the plastic things off the edge of the shower screen and poked a rag in them to clean. Very satisfying.

Then I ruined my good mood by knocking my cafetiere off the worktop - it smashed.

Pheebs2021 · 28/11/2021 09:42

Good morning all, haven't been on here in ages!
Hope you are all doing OK.
I've recently found out I'm going to be a mum for the first time!
