Thanks for the early Thanksgiving wishes, Iwandered.

Silkie, did the contrast dye cause you a problem? Some people don't react well to it.

It has been a busy day. The DC have both gotten their covid booster jabs, DD has had a checkup with her GYN, DS has had a haircut and they have both gone to visit the local crew team at practice. They rowed with the team for years. DD is off to have dinner with her boyfriend, who attends uni locally and we are awaiting DS's return. Since it is just the three of us for dinner, we'll get nice takeaway.

Hope you had a nice takeaway MissC The dye was fine, nice MRI scanner with music.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2021 00:59

The takeaway was delicious. We had a fried calamari appetizer and I had chicken marsala over rigatoni. DD and her boyfriend visited for a bit and now she's taking him home. He's a lovely young man.

We are sitting around waiting for a pizza delivery.

I intended to go to my local supermarket on my way home from work to get something to cook, but the carpark was a madhouse, with queues to even get into it, so I decided to go home and just order. DS kindly offered a Doordash coupon, so we are getting two massive pizzas for a low price.

Welcome home to your DD, MissC.

I have ordered postal PCR tests for our two primary age children. The outbreak in their/my school continues to rampage through the population. Although cases are falling nationally, the county and particularly our town is a hotspot.

There seems to have been a Y1/Y3 party at the weekend which may have been a super-spreader event. A parent yesterday said that maybe they shouldn’t have sent their 7yr old, but she thought they couldn’t have no fun forever. It made me think about birthday parties and the like, children that age haven’t had them for a couple of years and it seems very unfair - despite my frustration I could see her point. Bracing myself for a further onslaught of cases this morning.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 07:55

I will be stuck in isolation until 3.12 unless I can test out.
The windows in this room are 3,60 m off the ground. I can see grey sky.

capitalcapitalcapital · 24/11/2021 09:41

Thanks for the welcome. I’m still feeling awful. I’m double vaccinated and really didn’t think it would be so bad. We’ve been so careful since the beginning of all of this so I feel quite miffed that I’ve got it now!

My 4 year old daughter is home too which is somewhat challenging. She tested negative and thankfully has no symptoms but school are asking us to keep her off while I’ve got covid. I’m so grateful to my husband as he’s taken the time off work to look after her, I’m not sure I could have managed otherwise. It’s hard for her as I’m a SAHM so she’s used to having all my attention.

I’m finding reading all your news v soothing when I’m not asleep! Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 11:54

capital Me too, but I am stuck in isolation with what 2 years ago would have been a slight seasonal infection.
Luckily my DC are young adults and they and DH are in their own rooms doing their own things, and I can work from home with no great problems.

And the owl is very pleased with me.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2021 12:05

So today ran into someone who has asked for a character reference for something. Feel so frustrated by it. ( Not giving the reference) but the circumstances of it.

Sorry if that’s very cryptic but can’t give more detail.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2021 12:07

Should add am not frustrated by the fact they asked for one am more than happy to give one.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 12:07

What is a character reference? I see that here a lot.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2021 12:12

@Prokupatuscrakedatus a character reference is a reference talking about the persons character what they are like how you know them etc.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2021 12:13

Usually for a job but not always.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 12:27

@Lemonsandlemonade - What is it used for? Who checks the reliability?
Sorry to ask, but I never came across this practice outside of MN.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2021 12:33

Sometimes they are used as one of job references in which case they would be checked by the employer.

If say you want to foster or adopt a child the fostering/adoption agency will ask for personal character references to get a better understanding of the person wanting to adopt/foster. These are checked by the agency and can be followed up by interviews of the person.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 13:01

Lemon I see. Thank you.

4 clementines have been put in front of my door - I will now eat them.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2021 14:01

Prok, they are used in the US also. It might be a clergy person, a neighbor, or a long-time friend. They are just used to get some confirmation that the person is presenting a true picture of themselves.

Capital, I'm sorry you're feeling so poorly. It's great that your DH was able to take some time off. Which vaccine did you have? I'm glad our mundane news is providing some comfort for you. Smile

DS has an ear wax buildup that restricts his hearing in one ear. I'm with him at an urgent care office waiting for the doctor to clean it out.

I can't quite believe that Thanksgiving is upon us tomorrow.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 14:09

Miss When I had my ear cleaned out recently I was treated to see the inside of my ear on a screen as the HNO put a camera inside. Looked very interesting. The same day I had to watch a film of a camera inspection of a sewer pipe for work Grin

MissConductUS · 24/11/2021 14:31

We are back and DS's hearing is fully restored. I'll ask if he got to look inside of his ear. Knowing him, he was messing about on his phone while the doctor did it.

I think DH and DS are making pizza tonight, but it's best to stay flexible. Grin

Nydj · 24/11/2021 17:47

Aren’t character references also given court cases?

I have made vegetarian cannelloni for dinner so feel a bit virtuous because it is a bit of a faff to make.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2021 18:08

Nydj Well done!
I get scraps of whatever the DC / DH are making - so today I had:
4 clementines
1 bowl of mama yam
2 slices of rye toast with 2 slices of fried ham
I am waiting for DS to decide he is hungry and make me a schnitzel Grin

Littleants · 24/11/2021 18:25

Lying in bed trying to get the energy to get up and clean, or sew, or cook. Or anything really. I have been at work today so not totally lazy

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/11/2021 18:37

@Nydj yes they are used in court too.

@littleants sometimes it’s nice not to do anything at all.

DS in bed I’m trying and failing to write character reference. Think I’ll leave it for tonight.

Currently watching an audience with Adele.

sueelleker · 24/11/2021 19:06

DH has had his bladder op. They removed 90% of the growth and sent it for biopsy. He's hopefully coming home Friday.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2021 19:22

Welcome, @Littleants, and thanks for sharing your restful news.

Sue, did you mention he was going under the knife today? The good news is that they acted fast.

DD is feeling a bit poorly after her Pfizer booster yesterday and she has an appointment to get her hair cut today, so I'll take her. The landscaper is coming to finish blowing the leaves and cleaning out the gutters as it's getting cold. We still have some leaves on the trees, but most of them are down. DS is feeling fine, despite having had the same jab yesterday. I'm really looking forward to a four day weekend, even if there's a lot of cooking to do tomorrow.
