Rabbito will come up again using his, her or even their rabbit powers (might be a whole team behind the name taking turns).

Nobody gives me chocolate.

Silkieschickens · 20/11/2021 23:18

I checked and Rabbito seems to only do Duolingo on Sundays, obviously 6 six days to recover his paws and eat carrots. So maybe he will be a one day wonder again.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/11/2021 04:35

@MissConductUS sorry you’re feeling poorly my mum swears by toast if you are sick. Thinking on through do you have toast in the US? Never ever seen it on any programme or anything like that.

Bet it’s lovely having DS hone though.

@Silkieschickens hope you’re doing as ok as you can.

Had a lovely day yesterday went shopping enjoyed lunch out but sat freezing outside though as was quite busy. I was about the only person in a mask.

mathanxiety · 21/11/2021 04:57

Spent the afternoon sorting through clothes and rearranging bedroom furniture. Found a ring I though I had lost for good. About to get the third load of washing from the basement. I'm planning to go shopping for Thanksgiving groceries on Monday evening.

HelenaJustina · 21/11/2021 07:44

I have a long list of dull domesticity to achieve today. But first the Herculean task of getting 4 DC to Mass 20 minutes early as it is Youth Sunday and they are all playing a role.

I got my car locked in a car park yesterday afternoon so DH is off on a rescue mission to retrieve it. I’m living in absolute dread of a picture of it being shared on Facebook.

HildaTablet · 21/11/2021 08:57

Gentle hugs to IWanderedLonely and commiserations to all the unwell and Covid-afflicted on the thread.

I had my booster jab yesterday (6 months to the day after my second jab) and was quite glad to be given Pfizer (after AZ x2), as I seem to have heard a lot of talk about side-effects with Moderna. So far nothing worse than a bit of an achy arm and possibly a very minor headache which a couple of paracetamol should sort out. Fingers crossed nothing else develops.

I'll be cooking short-ribs for tonight's dinner, a cut of beef that is fairly new to arrive in the UK but I think US people will know well. They had loads on sale in Waitrose massively reduced so I snapped them up. Any recommended recipes? I've found a few that look good but it's always nice to hear one that's tried and tested.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2021 09:03

Good morning,
still waiting for symptoms to start - in my room. After coffee I will have a look at my task list and see what I can do from here.

Helena Did you make it to mass in time?

KittenKong · 21/11/2021 09:18

My new honey jar is sitting there with a broken lid ... I only got it yesterday and washed it, filled it up then put it on the side ready for this mornings breakfast... when I picked it up this morning the whole top came away (must’ve had a crack). So that’s a jar and a whole lot of honey (don’t want to risk glass in the honey.

Bah!

Nydj · 21/11/2021 09:46

Gentle virtual hugs from me too @IWanderedLonely and I hope you feel better soon. I hope all those feeling under the weather feel better soon and extra virtual hugs being sent to @Silkieschickens. I’m not really a buggy person so these mean a lot.
I had the Moderna booster, @HildaTablet, and the first night was something else with chills and dehydration but totally ok within a few days.
We received some unexpected baklava and somehow, I managed to eat loads of it because I could see the container in the kitchen. It took a long time to put the container away out of sight.

Nydj · 21/11/2021 10:35

Huggy not buggy. I am quite a buggy person!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2021 13:09

Baklava - especially unexpected one - is great.

On my way to work I have to pass on of these www.pasam-baklava.de/ shops.

Silkieschickens · 21/11/2021 14:04

Thanks Lemons and Nydj Thanks very much for the hugs Nydj, bugs please send to Prok who will appreciate them far more than me. Bit emotional atm, had to tell DS who just cried and hid under fleece blanket with hands over ears. But advice is to tell. School are putting support in place, he does not have friends outside school here but I contacted a Mum of a boy he was friends with in old area and she has phoned. Missed it as was asleep but she is the kindest Mum and think she will help.

DD was out with friends yesterday and today. She bought some books.

DH has been out to shop and got food for a Sunday roast dinner which will have in a couple of hours. Been watching trash TV programmes on Discovery and a bit of Duolingo, been exchanging emails with couple of Mums with cancer.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2021 14:50

Silkie Thanks for the bug redirection. It will be good if you can build support group for yourself and for DS - I hope it works out.

DH just brought my food to the door (schnitzel, french fries, carrots and leech and a clementine) - tasty, but still no chockolate!

HelenaJustina · 21/11/2021 16:02

It was a genuine miracle Prok but we did get there on time (18 minutes early rather than the requested 20) but the DC did brilliantly. DC1 alter served, DC2 did the first reading and psalm, DC3 did two bidding prayers.

MissConductUS · 21/11/2021 16:07

I am feeling better today. I slept well and went to church this morning.

Lemons, it is lovely to have DS home. The fridge is now filled with additional food and drinks for him. Toast? What is this "toast" you speak of? Just kidding. I have a Cuisinart motorized, computer controlled toaster with an LED screen. We love our toast in the US. Toasted English Muffins, which are a bit like scones, are also very popular. We would normally barbeque short ribs, but I'm sure that there are many other ways to fix them.

Hilda, statistically the side effect incidence for Modera and Pfizer are very similar. Side effects are down to the individual as much as the vaccine. Moderna is a higher dose but also seems to give slightly better long term immunity. The US has just authorized boosters for everyone 18 and over, so DS and DD are getting theirs on Tuesday. I booked them last week in anticipation of the authorization.

kitten, terrible luck with the honey jar. Any chance of getting your money back?

Iwandered, I hope you are feeling better. Do you have family members you can reach out to for support?

Silkie, you did the right thing to have the talk with your DS. Does your hospital have a peer support group for cancer patients? Most here do and they're very helpful.

DH and DS did a shop while I was at church. We're going to have homemade bread stuffing with the turkey, along with the Holiday Mashed, peas and carrots and gravy. I'll make an apple pie, and I picked up some vanilla ice cream from the local posh ice cream shop that makes their own. Math, what sides are you planning for Thanksgiving.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2021 16:08

Helena 18 minutes is very good. Smile
We live practically on the same block as our church and occasionally DC just made it in time for - what do you call the little bit of practice a choir does before they have to sing? "Einsingen"

DD has started baking.

HelenaJustina · 21/11/2021 16:14

Well now I’m going to call it Einsingen! We live in a tiny village and so have to hop in the car and drive 3 miles to our Catholic Church.

DH retrieved my car and I wasn’t named and shamed on Facebook (I know you were all concerned!)

Silkieschickens · 21/11/2021 18:56

Your Dh brought you a leech Prok Good job you love bugs. Shock Schnitzel is great though and hope chocolate has appeared by now. Maybe put a note up and don't be too subtle if he is like my DH.

Glad you are feeling better MissC

I am fine re support, a couple of Mums with cancer contacted me through MN and now we are e-mailing plus I can phone the nurses and have DH. People in the village will look after DH and his work are good. Both schools are supporting and DD has lots of friends and chats to me. It is poor DS I am worried for as he has no friends here and does not communicate with anyone though he plays with kids at school and loves his pets here. I managed to contact an old friend of his Mum and she was so kind and have a meeting for next weekend and details of how he can get in touch via x box to that boy and another old friend and she chatted to me for an hour and said to call her any time. Two teachers messaged me this weekend and they are doing all they can. Plus I have MN. Told another friend as well, in old area but will keep in touch.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2021 19:08

Silkie Aaargh Grin - that is not the word I was going for leek is what I had not 'Blutegel' and still no chocolate.

IWanderedLonely · 21/11/2021 20:28

Silkies glad you've got of support, (including MN- I think it's easier to bare your soul on here than IRL).
Feeling better today, in a nutshell I do a lot for my DM who is 91. I have siblings who are great but DM wants me to do everything ( she is of the generation who think this is women's work plus she thinks my sister is too bossy). I work and mind my grandchildren and am on a lot of rotas at church ( which I have just cut back on today!) And am menopausal!
Mum is great and very independent but yesterday she was a bit niggly and at the end of a long week it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I did a 10k run with DH this morning and felt so much better for it (mentally).
Thank you all for your support - I am quite an introvert and hate leaning on friends IRL.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2021 20:32

Iwandered That is a lot of plates to spin - I'd propbably explode.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/11/2021 21:53

My gosh @IWanderedLonely that’s a lot of things remember you need time for you.

@Silkieschickens it must be difficult in you worrying about your DS. I was trying to think if practical things to help your DS but I’m drawing a blank.

Going to see old colleague tomorrow who is off with ill health. We DGS has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and she wants me to look at the letter from consultant.

DFIL has MRI, CT and one other scan booked in for Friday. After routine health check through his work they found blood in his urine. The doctor has sent him for tests in hospital.

My concern is the speed the appointment has come through ( just under 2 weeks). He has been loosing weight too. I haven’t shared my concerns with DH.

Silkieschickens · 21/11/2021 23:45

I would imagine leek tastes a lot nicer than leech Prok and thought I could not see you eating bugs. Sort of thing my DH would do. Hmm

Iwandered that sounds like you have a lot on, remember not to take on too much, good you are cutting back. Glad you feel a bit better.

Lemons Thanks. Blood in urine is a 2ww referral but I have had that before a few times and never been cancer, was a bad uti / kidney infection for me which antibiotics shifted, hope it will just be similar for your FIL but best to get checked.

Contacted the second friend's Mum of DS now from where we used to live, hopefully she will reply as well and help facilitate contact between the boys. I think teenage boys often only grunt and shout at each other but at least its some communication and friends for DS.

mathanxiety · 22/11/2021 00:38

Silkies that conversation with DS was a hard thing to do. I hope your RL friends can rally round to support you and your family, and you have many friends here too.

MissC I am planning to do roasted carrots and parsnips, roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts with a balsamic reduction, buttered green beans, mashed sweet potatoes with butter and molasses, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce made with orange juice, plus stuffing for the turkey (bread, onion, fresh parsley, dried sage). I'm the only one who eats Brussels sprouts and parsnips.

Gingerwarthog · 22/11/2021 06:00

Sending love, Silkie.
Can DD and DS access school based Counsellors not CAMHS)? I appreciate DS may not talk it through but Play therapy or Sand-tray therapy might be alternatives?
Have you got a support plan in place for Christmas?
Sorry - seems trivial to post stuff about my cat, or swimming, or cakes while you're going through this. Xx
