Thanks MissC Good to have your son home again.

Silkieschickens · 13/11/2021 18:06

DD was a bit stunned that they put a chip in my breast, I think they said to see the cancer growth, and she said she joked you are only supposed to get chipped with the vaccine.

Nydj · 13/11/2021 18:22

@Silkieschickens I like how your daughter brought the rabbit to comfort you and break the ice for what was likely to be a difficult conversation.

I got my booster yesterday and had a rotten night of chills - woke up very dehydrated but am fine now. Have ordered Chinese delivery for dinner.

Lemonsandlemonade · 13/11/2021 18:24

@Silkieschickens your DD sounds lovely 😊. Glad you’re doing as ok as you can.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/11/2021 18:45

Silkie DC's Kindergarten teacher gave me a book "From this moment on" I learned that "yes I have cancer, but DC still need to be collected" (and Duo pacified). The book was quietly helpful.

Cookies - aargh - The recipe said 200 °C and 15 min - yes, reader they were burnt. At 170 °C and 7 min they turned out nicely.

Watching Strictly - Motsi’s wearing enough hi-vis to have earned a mention in here…

MissConductUS · 13/11/2021 19:02

We're having a massive thunder storm with half inch hail. I can hear it bouncing off the skylights. The cats are hiding.

Just switched on to Strictly and yes, Motsi’s dress - I think I need to wear my sunglasses

Which booster did you get, Nydj? DH got his the day before yesterday and it was Pfizer, as were his first two jabs. Mine's next week and I had AZ before so I'm curious to see whether I get Pfizer or Moderna, and what the effects will be.

We're about to go out to a friend's fireworks party. Admittedly it's a bit late for the 5th, but they always have professional standard displays so it should be good.

Nydj · 13/11/2021 19:23

Ooh fireworks sound lovely, @HildaTablet. I had the moderna - the man at the pharmacy where I had it said that there were very few Pfizer’s left and they were not expecting any more for a couple of weeks.

I love a good thunderstorm and your one sounds particularly impressive, Miss.

I used to watch Strictly avidly and then stopped for a few years and now watching it again. I still struggle with Anton being on the show because he used the racial slur which I cannot bring myself to type but starts with the letter P about his partner many years ago. I have very little time for anyone who has the P word in their vocabulary.

Lemonsandlemonade · 13/11/2021 19:42

I too am watching strictly whilst eating tea downstairs a real treat.

Feel Craig went for Dan Walker because he felt he should have been in bottom two last week.

Lemonsandlemonade · 13/11/2021 20:18

Think it deserves a mention Rose and Giovanni doing their couples choice was exceptional made me cry.

If you get to see it in America watch it! It was amazing.

Realise this isn

I don't think the British version is broadcast here, but there is an American version called Dancing with the Stars.

Yeah I have heard of dancing with the stars as Bruno is one of the judges.

The couple in question the lady ( non dancer is deaf ) and dances so beautifully.

Hope the link works 🙈

Silkieschickens · 13/11/2021 22:14

Yes DD was lovely, said I am coming with rabbit and we are feeding him to distract you. Then wanted to chat and said Mummy I looked it up and 90% of people survive so dont worry you will either be treated and recover or dead and you wont be here to feel anything so that will be fine for you too. And dont worry about us Mummy, I am older so can look after myself, I can also look after Papa though he may be able to look after himself, infact I am optimistic about that. My brother wont be able to look after himself but dont you worry I will look after him and he can live with me. He is also getting more independent, like him having no friends is the ultimate sign of his independence and he is happy like that. I have also planned you a cremation or funeral and I will make your ashes into a ring I will wear, I just need to know who you want to invite and if its ok to bury you in Venice as I want to go abroad again, please say yes. And btw can you die within 6 months of my gcses or A levels as then it counts. It appears my death is now well planned.

mathanxiety · 14/11/2021 01:00

Sending good vibes your way, Silkies Flowers
It sounds as if your DD is trying to come to terms with the news, being very brave and trying to reassure you. She's right that the majority of patients recover, so there's room for hope.

We're expecting snow tomorrow, and since I spent a lot more time than anticipated today putting together a flatpack wardrobe, I didn't get out to get a few sundries from Walmart which were on my list, so I'll have to do it in the snow. Luckily there's enough catfood to last until later tomorrow.

Talk of turkey shortages has made me panic a bit. If I find a small frozen one I may well buy it and try to shoehorn it into the freezer.

Lemonsandlemonade · 14/11/2021 04:34

@Silkieschickens your sighted sounds very mature. I imagine it was a hard conversation to have with her but she is right in that there is room for Hope as Math has said.

Lemonsandlemonade · 14/11/2021 04:35

Daughter not sighted

Champagneforeveryone · 14/11/2021 09:36

Hello all, lovely to see you as I've been AWOL for a while.

Sorry to hear your news silkie

There are plans afoot to take a squad trip to the adults only panto - I could not be more horrified at the prospect and have had to quickly invent a family gathering Confused

Come to think of it, I might even plan a family gathering just to be sure Wink

MissConductUS · 14/11/2021 10:01

Welcome back, Champagne, it's lovely to see you again. How have you been?

Having no idea what an adults only panto is, I googled it and found one on youtube. Pretty grim, but I was expecting a puppet show, like Punch and Judy. We don't have pantos here.

I'm up early and about to go out for a run.

Baking again

and DS just had the idea to interview / mail his psychiatrist about reasons for diagnostic changes for autism, after all he should know.
(First sign of being pro-active - quietly dance for joy)

Silkieschickens · 14/11/2021 10:42

Happy baking Prok and good your DS is being proactive.

Welcome back Champagne and thanks. Like MissC I just assumed adult only panto was just no kids so more civilised so I am Shock by MissCs revelations. I would also be avoiding.

Thanks Lemons and Math I think DD is like me and trying to think even if the worst case scenario happens we will be OK though that approach does work better when worst case is not death. She is off out with friends today. At least most of her mocks are over and just her 2 strongest subjects left. Though the government has announced another change of plan and says exams will go ahead but y11s have to sit 3 sets of mocks incase they dont which wont count if exams do go ahead. I think every y11 child and parent is now really livid with the government. Though good thing is she now has one set of mocks that should could when in February or so they announce next change of plan is teacher assessment again. She also sat the Senior Maths Challenge which is for up to 18 year olds and not adjusted for age and she did very well, may be in the Olympiad but awaiting boundaries.

Silkieschickens · 14/11/2021 10:43

Could is count

Nydj · 14/11/2021 10:56

Welcome back Champagne . I’ve lost track a bit - I know you were in the process of buying a house and that you moved recently, is the move to an intermediate rental or have you moved into your own place?

Silkie your daughter sounds like me in having to have plans for all eventualities although, and I cannot stress this enough, I am not like her on the socialising front or the cleverness with all those GCSEs and maths challenges. I do love how she has promised to look after her brother - so very lovely.

KittenKong · 14/11/2021 10:58

I just went to the local corner shop and bought loads of fresh herbs, fruit and veggies as really good prices. I love to see all my goodies out on the table - looks so healthy!
