@Lemonsandlemonade go to the swim class, enjoy the time with baby DS. I have no patience with people like this woman who pull this kind of crap. Usually because they are jealous, insecure or just inherently unpleasant people.

Maybe organise something nice for afterwards, arrange to meet someone else. So you can smilingly politely decline the cafe as you have somewhere better to be.

Gingerwarthog · 11/11/2021 06:54

Silkie
If no-one can come in with you - here's some advice (I hope this doesn't sound patronising - just being practical).

Take a notebook and pen and write down everything that you are told (or use your notes function on your phone).

Ask them to repeat what they say and don't be scared to ask them what words or medical terms mean. Do not allow them to rush explanations and clarify.

Ask if you can take pictures on your phone of any images etc.

Love
Ginger

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/11/2021 07:17

@HelenaJustina thanks you’re right. Why do the things in the middle of the night feel worse?!

@Silkieschickens good luck today. Have everything crossed for good news.

@Gingerwarthog super advice there.

Silkieschickens · 11/11/2021 11:29

Thanks Lemons Its tomorrow. Hope swimming class goes OK, I would just avoid/ignore as well.

Thanks Ginger Will take a pen and paper. They do e-mail me through link to their system public notes though sometimes these are hit and miss what is included. I think it will only be basic information at this stage either all clear or suspect cancer / need to biopsies and then the detail will be after more tests though hoping to not get to the details stage. DH is half deaf so he wouldn't be any help with listening but would have been useful for moral support though the nurses are amazing at that and I have at least been warned.

Thanks Nydj

DD did two exams yesterday then called us to pick her up as she felt ill, English exams have same effect on me Grin, she had a good rest and gone back in. It is really relentless the scheduling though DD has also signed up for every subject that will take her and a lot more than normal. Quite surprised school have not put a ban on her adding subjects by now. Think she is up to equivalent of 15 and normal amount is 9 plus she sat Senior Maths Challenge. It should all be over by Wednesday next week though then a second set of mocks then real thing to get through this year. But second set won't be as vital if she has one set on her record.

DH is sleeping. So is Silkiecat.

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/11/2021 16:33

@Silkieschickens am sorry thought today was Friday!! 🙈

Silkieschickens · 11/11/2021 17:58

I always get days mixed up too Lemons I did have to double check I had not made an error though already being super careful with this appointment.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/11/2021 20:17

Tomorrow is DD's appointment with a specialist for adult ADD. I've managed to condense her history, she wrote a list of her current problems. I will take her (so she does not get lost).

Silkie I, too, will be thinking of you.

Silkieschickens · 11/11/2021 20:38

Thanks Prok Hope it goes well for your DD.

Just had jacket potatoes with corned beef. Had a bath.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/11/2021 21:07

Corned beef - we had that when I was a child, sliced on bread.

This year I will try to get my biscuits not only tasty but pretty as well - if DH can do it, I can too.

MissConductUS · 11/11/2021 21:32

It's been a busy day chez Conduct. The plumber came this morning to replace our kitchen faucet. They installed this sleek wonder:

Kohler Mazz

The end of the spout pulls off with a hose so that you can use it as a sprayer, then is held in place with a magnet when you return it. It's much nicer than the old one. They also fixed a dripping bathroom faucet and a few other minor things. After they left I discovered that the faucet for my sink in the ensuite is now dripping too, so they'll be back on Monday to fix that. Then the HVAC bloke came and did the annual service on our central heating system.

After that we dropped off DH's car at the Subaru dealer for its 12k mile service and to have the winter tires tyres put on. We'll pick it up tomorrow afternoon. DH blew the leaves off the driveway and deck. They are really coming off the trees now.

DS's Christmas iPhone 13 arrived, so that's done. He asked for blue, and it's a very nice blue. I ordered him an Otterbox case to go with it. I think we're going to get a tex/mex take away for dinner.

Good luck with your appointment tomorrow, Silkie. We'll be thinking of you. I hope your daughter's appointment goes well too, Prok.

Haven’t had corned beef in years. As a child my grandma would make corned beef rissoles which originated from South Wales. Corned beef mixed with mash and fried onions covered in breadcrumbs then fried in a frying pan. She always used lard to fry with.

Served with home made chips and beetroot.

Sending positive vibes @Silkieschickens for tomorrow not today!!

MissConductUS · 11/11/2021 21:40

Lemons, I never cared for corned beef, but your grandma's recipe sounds very good.

How's your lovely wee lad doing?

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/11/2021 22:03

@Prokupatuscrakedatus hope your daughters appointment goes ok.

@MissConductUS my Grandma was a master of making fairly ordinary ingredients and making a tasty meal from them. She was a war time parent and made food stretch.

My little man is doing very well on the whole. He did amazing in swimming today and has started to enjoy it more! Whist it is hard I feel so lucky to have him free 5 years of yearning for a baby he was the shining light at the end of the longest tunnel.

I just see him like my Dad in lots of ways.

It’s very autumnal here too.

IWanderedLonely · 12/11/2021 07:49

Good luck today Silkies & Prok's daughter.
Corned beef hash is one of our campervan meals. All tinned & so foolproof that even DH can make it ( and we love it)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/11/2021 08:00

I just had a look online - corned beef is still sold in the same kind of packaging it came in when I was small. Not being modernized at all!

And I found a box of little paper cups for pralinés in my baking cupboard - now I have to make stuff to fill them, don't I. Smile

Acornsandleaves · 12/11/2021 08:24

Good luck today Silkie and Prok I hope your daughter's appointment goes well.

HildaTablet · 12/11/2021 08:26

Sending you supportive vibes for today, Silkie

Prok, I think it's the same here with corned beef - there's a little key you open the tin with. The edges are lethally sharp. I still have the scar on my right thumb from when I gashed it open when I was about 12, trying to help by opening the corned beef for tea (we used to have it with salad - a very Northern English meal).

Nydj · 12/11/2021 09:22

Everything crossed here for Silkie and Prok’s DD today.

Another grey day here will go out soon and see ifI can get a booster jab at a pharmacy that is supposed to do walk ins.

Silkieschickens · 12/11/2021 09:33

Thanks very much everyone. Managed to sleep at least, now feeling jittery and so is DH but nothing can do now other than get tested and see what they say.

I also had corned beef as a child, its still quite 70s here, though we do buy it in packs pre sliced now rather than the slice your hand as well as the corned beef tins. Tastes same apart from you don't get the jelly but that is no loss.

I remember as a child seeing my grandmothers sister dying of breast cancer and her husband asked me to suggest things as she had not eaten or drank for days, she had a drip at home. I suggested corned beef and apple juice. She said yes to apple juice but no to corned beef, so we rushed to shops to get her apple juice which she drank.

I thought this was a message I'd forgotten I'd sent! I also have a scar on my right thumb from a corned beef can, but I was 22 when I did it. I now always use a can opener.
HildaTablet · 12/11/2021 12:15

sueelleker if I ever committed a crime they’d catch me immediately by my corned-beef-scarred right thumbprint Grin

MissConductUS · 12/11/2021 12:33

Tins of spam (of Monty Python fame) used to open the same way, with the same dangerous metal strip. It was rarely on the menu growing up, so I managed to escape injury.

My lovely MIL got her booster jab yesterday, which she is very happy about. She got her flu shot a few weeks ago at her doctor's office, but struggled a bit getting the covid shot scheduled. I wound up doing it for her.

I just see him like my Dad in lots of ways.

Lemons, I never met DH's dad, as he passed away in his late 50's, but we have loads of pictures of him. DS is his spitting image. DH told me that his father had a fairly unusual unconscious behavior. When he was really concentrating on something he would stick the tip of his tongue out of the corner of his mouth, and have no idea that he was doing it. DH has never done this. DS does this all the time!

Genetics works in odd ways sometimes. My FIL died from a ruptured aortal aneurism, so I insist that DH gets an aortal ultrasound annually.

Oh... that's lovely. Genetics are amazing.

Silkie I hope all does well today and you come home with some answers.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/11/2021 16:03

Genetics - DD looks like me, I look like my DM, and DM looked like her mum. DD knows how she will look when she is old Grin

DD's appointment went very well, the team was very helpful, and one of the medics first questions was "Are you autistic?" After about 1,5 h she came out with a trial prescription for medication. She will start tomorrow at seven after a good beakfast (now she has to eat, yay!) and then we will see and she needs to e-mail in her and my observations.

MissConductUS · 12/11/2021 16:44

Prok, it sounds like her appointment went well. 1,5 h is a very thorough evaluation. What medication will she be trying?

ZZ, thanks, it is lovely. We named DS after his grandfather, who was a lovely, kind man. I'm sorry I never met him.

The dealer rang to let us know that DH's car is ready. It's been storming here - high winds and heavy rain - so we'll wait a bit before we go to pick it up. I have a batch of Death by Chocolate brownies in the over. I'll try to freeze most of them for Thanksgiving.

And speaking of Thanksgiving, it's been in the news that there's a shortage of turkeys and hams this year. We're still not sure if we're eating here or going to my brother's house, so I haven't really shopped for it. I went to the warehouse club this morning and they were out of turkeys, but they did have frozen turkey breasts, so I got one of those. I've made them before and none of us really likes the dark meat, so now I'm prepared if we wind up having the holiday dinner here.

ZZ, what are your Thanksgiving plans?
