Oh fuckity fuck - no hallowe’en costume. PLEASE HELP 🥺

So I have a hallowe’en party to go to tomorrow evening. Being hosted by a new US friend who is super passionate about hallowe’en.

I was going to go as June from the Handmaid’s Tale.and was a bit smug that I had found a costume on Amazon with dress, cape, scarf and ‘wings’.

And it arrived yesterday after a 6 week lead in time and, oh my, it bears no resemblance to anything vaguely related to the Handmaid’s Tale. The cape is a huge shiny red zip up raincoat, the ‘wings’ are a circular piece of white cotton with two ribbons tangling down and, despite the cape being monster size, I cannot even step into the accompanying dress.

Sp, please, can anyone suggest anywhere in London I can get some form of costume that will do for a hallowe'en party. At the moment, I’ll take anything going - whether a high end costume hire shop or a supermarket / similar offering.

I am a dumpy size 16, 5’2” woman in her 50s. So not aiming for sex on legs - just something that shows I’ve made a bit of an effort.

I’m in London so can readily access costume shops etc in London. The party is tomorrow (Saturday) evening

Get a sheet and cut some holes out of it and go as a ghost. Just don't do what my friend did and put a pointy end at the top...kuclux clan costumes do not go down so well xD

Or you could make a sheet into a toga.

Pirate is always good. Hat/ bandana and eyepatch, don't need much more.

A really good one was a group dressed as the insurance agents from tv. You might have stuff in your wardrobe for that, whatever your equivalent insurance companies are there

I like the witch idea 🧙‍♀️ as it’s classic and recognisable. However, have no black dress.

Wear ordinary clothes and announce that you are dressed as a psychopath.
They look just like the rest of us...

I think the issue as a) I have very few ‘base’ clothes I can adapt due to substantial weight gain, and b) cannot currently manage scissors, needle & thread etc

A mummy?

Toilet rolls - mummy

Lots of jewellery and go as a pirate. Boots, tight trousers baggy white shirt over a vest. Lots of black eyeliner and a bandana if you can’t find a pirate hat.

Cut some bat silhouettes out of thin card, paint them black, pin or tack them onto any plain coloured dress. You could also make a bat shaped mask to go across your eyes, with more card and some tape, ribbon or thin elastic.

There is a large fancy dress shop in Clapham Junction just near the station. I went in there yesterday and they had loads of costumes.i think it is called Party Party but you can just Google it!

Buy some bandages and wrap them round you = mummy outfit. Works a treat!

Black tshirt over a white tshirt and make cuts in it like a skeleton, with a bit of facepaint or makeup on.

Our failsafe is a cat. Cat ears, eyeliner for whiskers and a nose. It always looks so cute.

Wear all black and put whiskers on your face with eyeliner and go as a black cat using old tights or an old black sock to make a tail?

I think 1920s flapper would be easy to do. String of beads. Headband. Nice dress or pencil skirt. Cigarette

Can you wear the handmaid costume, but rip it and cover it in fake blood and go as a Zombie Handmaid?
