What makes you sad every time you think about it ?

There’s been a lot of sharing story threads so i’d like to start one - to start such a sad one Blush
What story or fact about somebody/something etc makes you sad whenever it crosses your mind ?
For me it’s a late singer named Tiny Tim… I watched a video about him a few days ago and it’s been bloody depressing me . Whenever he pops into my head I have to go take a break and do something distracting!! Poor guy. Sad
Need to feel better. Am I alone in this ?

That young autistic boy that starved to death alone after his mother died naturally. They were not found for three weeks

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/10/2021 08:08

The Hillsborough disaster. My uncle was there that day in the stand above helping to lift people out of the crush. He changed from being the funniest man I had ever known to a man than never really laughed again after. He took his own life a few years later, consumed with guilt that he had not been able to help more people that day.

userxx · 30/10/2021 08:21

@trappedsincesundaymorn What a huge loss to you and your family. So very sad.

My best friend who has lost two young children in 2 years. I want to cry every time I think about what she has/is going through.

Aquafizzle · 30/10/2021 08:27

There was a photo taken a few years ago by a father of a 4 year old girl who was in agony dying of cancer. He publicised it to raise awareness of childhood cancers.

That photo of her arching her back, face etched in pain will never ever leave me. The poor darling died and I hope she is at peace and in a good place.

Indoctro · 30/10/2021 08:28

@Imaybeacat

I also read about a little girl once who was stuck in some sort of volcanic mud pool and couldn’t get out , even with help from rescue teams. So they just left her there until she died, comforting her all the way Sad There’s photos and she was turning blue from hypothermia , even her eyes were black. Every now and again i’ll think of that little girl. I remember as it was the first time i’d had a proper cry since my uncle passed Sad
Her name was omayra Sanchez

James Bulger, and more recently the cases of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson. All very young innocent children who should have been protected. With James i really feel for his poor mum and dad - he was clearly very loved and they were just very unlucky -I don’t think what happened was their fault at all. Reading the cases of Star and Arthur broke my heart - how can anyone be so cruel to such a small helpless child. Unfortunately I think their so-called parents and their parents partners took a twisted delight in making these poor children suffer. And what’s awful is that there will be other children out there going through the same awful treatment that poor Star and Arthur suffered right now.

Dunblane.

I'll never forget it, it was close to where I was living at the time and I worked with someone whose sister worked at the school. I'll never forget.

Whenever we build sandcastles or dig holes on the beach, I always remember Abi Livingstone-Nurse. She was buried alive when her step brother dug a hole and she jumped in. The sand collapsed on top of her and they couldn't dig her out in time. That one has always stayed with me, how quickly a family day out can turn to tragedy.

I cry most days about one of them

Whenever there is a conference or meeting with name tags on the table, and the seat is empty.
As a teenager sitting exams, a friend didn't show up. Her seat was empty with her student number on the table. She had been ran over on the way to school.
Then a couple of years ago, a colleague who had been unwell with cancer did not show up to a workshop. Same thing, an empty place with her name on, didn't show up. She had died a couple of days earlier but it hadn't been communicated.
Whenever I'm at an event with an empty seat like that I feel so sad, even though there could be a million reasons why someone just doesn't show up.
Even if I don't know the person, if they show up late I always feel relief for them and think, I'm so glad and grateful that you are here, even though I have no idea who or what kind of person they are.

Wide · 30/10/2021 09:45

I'm not sure if it was the Moors murders but the sick couple who tortured a child repeatingly playing Little drummer Boy and the child wanting their mum and it then being played in court for the parents to hear, oh my goodness I am crying writing this, it truly disturbed me!

Violetparis · 30/10/2021 09:48

Millie Dowler - the video of her ironing where she looks so happy makes me feel so sad knowing what's to come.
Winnie Johnson - the mother of the moors murder victim Keith Bennett whose body was never found.

Wide · 30/10/2021 09:48

@aquafizzle yes I remember this, heartbreaking. What some humans have to go through and watch loved ones go through

Wide · 30/10/2021 09:50

Also seeing a 12yr old boy at his mums funeral rocking back and forth as the curtains closed to a really sad song, awful

Hopeisallineed · 30/10/2021 09:54

What an awful thread. ☹️

PearlclutchersInc · 30/10/2021 10:09

Recently, an article on social media about a dying seal and people taking pics and throwing stones at it.

The fact that people are such cruel shits never ceases to cause me pain.

mistermagpie · 30/10/2021 12:48

Caroline Flack. I never watched her in a single programme, so it wasn't as if I was a fan or anything, but we were the same age and it just seemed like such a waste of life. Every time I see a photo of her I feel sad.

Puffalicious · 30/10/2021 14:10

It's good to be an empath, but if reading about such cases affects your own MH It's time to step away. Really, for your own good and happiness focus on other things or your view of the world will become warped. This is meant in kindness.

lollipoprainbow · 30/10/2021 14:25

@Puffalicious I agree. The poster has written lots on the Arthur case and I think it's effecting them very badly. There's having empathy and there's being slightly obsesssive about it.

jamandmarmalade · 30/10/2021 14:29

The White House Farm murders.

Inc the 6 year old twin boys shot whilst slept, one still sucking his thumb. Mercifully both asleep at the shooting.

Same here. Such an awful tragedy but one that is important to remember and to talk about as people need to know how dangerous digging deep holes on the beach can be Sad
DueyCheatemAndHow · 30/10/2021 14:53

@Puffalicious I totally agree, I've struggled recently.

@lollipoprainbow its not a very nice feeling to be discussed like you have just done and called 'weirdly obsessive'. Just saying.

JaneJeffer · 30/10/2021 14:55

This thread is so depressing! I will add the Magdalene laundries and all those poor women and children Sad
