There’s been a lot of sharing story threads so i’d like to start one - to start such a sad one Blush
What story or fact about somebody/something etc makes you sad whenever it crosses your mind ?
For me it’s a late singer named Tiny Tim… I watched a video about him a few days ago and it’s been bloody depressing me . Whenever he pops into my head I have to go take a break and do something distracting!! Poor guy. Sad
Need to feel better. Am I alone in this ?

@EvenRosesHaveThorns

Last year, I found a man hanging in my local woods. He was in his 20s, depressed by lockdowns and state of the planet. Can't imagine how his family feel
That could have been my friend. I've often thought of, and felt terribly sorry for, whoever found him, and others like him. How you get over that I don't know. Thanks

Recently came across Tiffany wright and read the story of her abuse , she was the same age as my daughter is now and I was in tears, really so much evil in the world.

YY to Keith Blakelock. There is also a verse which goes along the lines "everyone in your life will have a last day with you, and you don't even know when it
will be"

James Bulger was the first thought that came into my head. I can't bear to think about it. And 9/11.

Grenfell Tower

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 29/10/2021 23:12

Thank you, your reply has really touched me. It was terrible, but there was yet something oddly peaceful about the scene & the dignity shown by the responders, despite the tragedy, and I wish I had had the chance to tell his family that, perhaps as a crumb of comfort for them

Aberfan.

All child murders.

Rolypolyfishheads · 29/10/2021 23:14

Thinking of April Jones really breaks my heart 😢

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 29/10/2021 23:15

Many of the things mentioned already. But also, George Michael. I sort of forget he's no longer with us til I hear his music. Such a beautiful talented soul and yet so sad somehow.

AdoptedBumpkin · 29/10/2021 23:21

I googled Alfredino and it brought a tear to my eye.

MajorGeneralDogsbody · 29/10/2021 23:23

Nazanin having been held in Iran for over 5 and a half years. Richard now on day 6 of hunger strike still battling for our government to act.

MaraScottie · 29/10/2021 23:27

The Buncranna tragedy. It just horrifies me, every time I think of it. In fact I think of it everytime I visit a harbour and see a slip way.

Awful beyond words. I hope the Mum and daughter are finding some joy in life now.

ChilliChaos · 29/10/2021 23:31

When they lobotomise Jack Nicholson in one flew over the cuckoos nest. And the realisation that this happened to so many people with mental illnesses not that long ago.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/10/2021 23:31

Similar to the baby orphaned elephant , there was ( I think Blue Planet) one programme years ago. A herd of elephants in a duststorm. A calf got split up from his mum then caught her scent and went cantering along the trail in the opposite direction to the herd Sad
I don't know how far he strayed .

The "staggering under the weight of more than he should carry" working donkeys . The images they show are grim but this is their life . DH and I went to Egypt years ago , it is heartbreaking .

The news stories that are constant ( and we probably only see a tiny % making headline news) of children abused and murdered by those who should protect and cherish them.

People just being so bloody intolerant . If the elderly man in front of you is a bit slow , give him space , give him time .
If the woman in front of you chats to the cashier , don;t get the hump , it might be the only person she'll speak to today .
The AgeUk advert where the man on the phone explains he's a bit lost since his wife died ....Sad
And yes I know people can be cantankerous in older age , maybe they were in younger years (I work with older people )

And knowing that all my animals (cat then guinea-pigs now more cats) which were all rescues didn't have great beginnings .
Not cruelty thankfully . Unwanted or dumped . But sad they had to live this .

tunnocksreturns2019 · 29/10/2021 23:33

Having to tell my 5 and 7 year olds their lovely daddy had died.

He is missing so much, and so are we.

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 29/10/2021 23:33

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar

I saw a documentary about 15 years ago where a herd of elephants shunned an orphaned baby, and it followed the herd around desperate for food until it passed away.

I broke my heart over it, I cried so much I couldn't eat or anything, DH was Confused. But that wee baby was just so, so sad.

Yes! I remember that. Shook me up, too.
Thorinfling · 29/10/2021 23:34

Hannah Cornelius. What that poor, poor girl and then her family went through. Followed the story and it has always stayed with me.

antoniawhite · 29/10/2021 23:41

Flowers tunnocks I’m so sorry.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 29/10/2021 23:46

Flowers tunnocks I’m so sorry.
Thank you. Btw I love Frost in May
Ifonlyidknownthen · 29/10/2021 23:49

So many things, but one that sticks out, a little girl that was taken from a tent in her uncles back garden where she was having a sleep over with cousins, and then very badly raped/buggered and murdered by a homeless man known in the area. The thought of what that child went through before she was killed cuts me to pieces.

antoniawhite · 29/10/2021 23:50

tunnocks Me too! I’ve been badgering the BBC to rerun the dramatisation they did of it in the 80s, but no luck yet!
