I feel very anxious about my decision

I’m in finance management and had applied for 3 interim roles and got offered all 3…2 were 100% work from home and the 3rd one in predominantly working from home but they want me to come in to collect the laptop and meet management
It’s in London and I’ll have to use the train..I’m claustrophobic and I’m train especially when they go through tunnels I struggle a lot…I have a full blown panic attack.

I chose the London one due to it being a well known organisation and good for my cv..now I’m panicking as to how ill make this work…

Is there any tips I can follow?
Also is there a website where it shows the train route with the tunnel details? I googled but nothing..I can then plan a journey which avoids these..even if I have to drive to a further station?

Get a taxi! Clearly not worth the stress. Drive as close as possible and switch.

CiderWithLizzie · 29/10/2021 13:10

Coach?

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:11

@BluebellsGreenbells I did consider this…I’m looking into options.

@CiderWithLizzie yes looked at coaches but I’m really scared of catching Covid as well…coaches have the passengers sitting more closely than trains and if they are unmasked I feel there is more chance of potentially catching it..hence the hesitation

I don’t want to pull out of the job offer as I feel I’m succumbing to the phobia..but I’m panicking about my decision..

How far out of London are you

roadwarrior · 29/10/2021 13:15

How far away do you live? Maybe you could just drive in all the way to work. Or you could drive to some place outside of London like Woking and take the train from there.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 29/10/2021 13:16

Sounds like you'll either have to get a lift with someone or get a taxi

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:17

25 miles from the location I need to travel to where I live

Alpinechalet · 29/10/2021 13:21

Where are you travelling from and to? It’s easier to advise if you have the exact journey.

roadwarrior · 29/10/2021 13:22

Wikipedia has a list of all the tunnels in the UK.

Dillydollydingdong · 29/10/2021 13:24

Oh dear, I hope you won't need to use the tube.

thisplaceisweird · 29/10/2021 13:25

Definitely get a taxi! Or at least get a taxi to a close enough bus stop

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:29

Travelling to St Pancras international
Travelling from Hertfordshire

@roadwarrior Thank you! That’s what I was looking for…

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:31

@Dillydollydingdong no I’ve not got into the Tube for about 8/9 years now. When I used to work in London it was the bus or walk…

It may be useful in the longer term for you to contact Anxiety UK.
See their website.

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:32

@thisplaceisweird I’ve asked a taxi company to quote..hope it’s not more than my day rate

Hate what this anxiety/phobia has done to me…I used to love the resin journey..that was my reading/reflecting time..

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:34

@beigebrownblue I did- did couple of their group therapy sessions but not targeting this issue. Then started nhs IAPT and frankly it’s not good
So considering going private..

What stations in Hertfordshire?

Confused10101 · 29/10/2021 13:39

St Albans is one option
Hemel Hempstead to Euston could be another

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 29/10/2021 13:43

In your position I would get counselling/therapy for my phobia. But in the shorrt term taxi.

Alpinechalet · 29/10/2021 13:48

City Thameslink from St Albans direct to St Pancras.

You can walk from Euston to St Pancras, turn left out of station and walk 10 mins along Euston Road no need to use tube or bus.

See if you can use the link pp provided to see which has tunnels etc.

PigeonPigPie · 29/10/2021 13:58

You shouldn't need to get the tube if you're coming from Herts? Where does your train get in to London?
