Halloween/spooky films - no sex scenes

StillSadAboutTiffanyMitchell · 27/10/2021 12:42

Does anyone know of any scary films with no sex scenes in?
My son is 11 and has asked to watch a scary film with me on Friday night but from memory, the ones I think of all have sex scenes in.
I don't mind gore, violence, swearing but I don't really want to sit there watching sex with him.
Hes mature and I'm thinking up to a 15 rating.

Any ideas as I'm stumped.
Thanks

Blair Witch Project?

PlausibleSuit · 27/10/2021 12:47

The Others

Scream?

TheBlackHeart · 27/10/2021 12:52

The Woman in Black

Mammyloveswine · 27/10/2021 12:55

The others is a great suggestion! It's spooky enough but also not going to totally traumatise him!!

I rewatched poltergeist the other week and that was canny tame too compared to films today!

Other suggestions.. hocus pocus? Not really scary but a few jumpy moments!

Isn't there a haunting film with Jamie Lee Curtis that's spooky but not a high rating? It might be called "the haunting".

eandz13 · 27/10/2021 12:57

Insidious
Sinister
Conjuring

They're all creepy as fuck without sex scenes.

Pet Semetary is always a good shout too.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil if you fancy a gory horror comedy!

PlausibleSuit · 27/10/2021 12:58

Scream has some scenes that BBC censors in the 1960s might have described as 'titillating' -- girls in tight clothing, flashing, nipples, sexual innuendos etc. Not a comfortable watch with an 11-year-old, I'd have said.

IIRC it's an 18. I couldn't get in to the cinema to see it when it came out because I wasn't quite old enough (and now that makes me feel ancient!).

I also don't think you really 'get' Scream unless you've seen some of the slasher movies that it satirises.

Sixth sense

Ricekrispie22 · 27/10/2021 13:19

Insidious
The Skeleton Key
The Monster Squad
The Sixth Sense

Marimaur · 27/10/2021 13:20

Insidious and Pet Semetary are too frightening, imo!

I would go with

28 days later
Attack The Block
Evil Dead 2

CaputApriDefero · 27/10/2021 13:22

The Village
The others
The shining

EscapeTheCastle · 27/10/2021 13:23

Woman in black would be a good 1st scary and spooky film.

BreadPita · 27/10/2021 13:23

Scary stories to tell in the dark (2019) is a good one. The book series was aimed at children, but it's genuinely creepy without sex or gore.
Ghost stories (2017) is similarly good.

Justcashnosweets · 27/10/2021 13:25

Sleepy Hollow. I watched it last night. I'd forgotten how good it is!

Marimaur · 27/10/2021 13:27

Also:
Us
A Quiet Place

CarrieMoonbeams · 27/10/2021 13:29

Definitely The Woman in Black. Terrific story and has quite a few moments that made me squeak!

Kanaloa · 27/10/2021 13:31

I’m pretty sure The Others has a sex scene? Or at least implication of one.

Agree that Scream isn’t the same if you don’t have a contextual understanding.

Maybe the first IT movie or even the old 90s one? It does have an implication of sexual abuse but I can’t remember how clear it is. I don’t think there’s any graphic sexual scenes as far as I recall. It’s a 15 and quite gory but you’ve said you’d be okay with that.

Most zombie movies aren’t very sexy.

StillSadAboutTiffanyMitchell · 27/10/2021 13:31

Oooh great suggestions thank you all.
I fancied the others but can't find it anywhere.
We have prime, netflix and now tv movies

The shining, Addams family (not really horror but still a good watch) the sixth sense, hide and seek is a very good watch too.

PopsicleHustler · 27/10/2021 13:33

Sorry, but you dont mind an 11 year old seeing violent and hearing bad language and swearing???

TopBitchoftheWitches · 27/10/2021 13:35

Not the shining. Bath scene.

erinaceus · 27/10/2021 13:41

I found Jeepers Creepers horrific but I don't like scary movies. It fulfils your criterion of not having any sex scenes though.

I was going to suggest Hocus Pocus, which I used to love.

SoniaFouler · 27/10/2021 13:44

Drag me to Hell. IIRC it doesn’t have any sex scenes, is a 15, and has some real laugh out loud moments

SoniaFouler · 27/10/2021 13:46

And yes, Scream - Scream 3 are all 18’s. Scream 4 is a 15 even though I think it’s a lot more graphic personally

TheBlackHeart · 27/10/2021 13:47

@PopsicleHustler

Oh, here we go.
