DD is at uni too far away for us to see each other in person on her birthday, which is in November.

I'd like to send her a cake.

I'm not a cake expert, and nor is she, (neither of us has an especially sweet tooth) but I think she'll like having a cake delivered

How do I go about ordering and getting one too her?
Who offers this?

She is in Manchester.

Thanks in advance sweet-toothed people

My mum sometimes sends us gifts from Sponge.

PickAChew · 27/10/2021 00:29

Or for nicer, try Betty's.

hilariousnamehere · 27/10/2021 00:31

I love Sponge too :) chocolate orange is my favourite of theirs.

Google a cake shop near to her? Not sure where she is in Manchester but Slatterys is amazing!

Hairyfriend · 27/10/2021 00:32
  • Ring around cake shops in Manchester that deliver
  • Order one from M&S, Patisserie Valerie etc and have it delivered to her
SophieHatterPendragon · 27/10/2021 00:32

We had a cake from betty’s for my birthday and it was awful 😞

Sponge is ok … you might find a local bakery in Manchester via Google that can deliver

CoffeeBeansGalore · 27/10/2021 00:33

www.cakehead.co.uk do boxes of cake slices.

Could you call a local to her cake shop and get them to deliver her something? Or join a few local to her Facebook pages and ask on there? My local fb pages always have nice looking cakes for delivery from small businesses

PermanentTemporary · 27/10/2021 00:34

Try a box of yum from Abigail's Kitchen. It's slices though not a cake.

Or Fitzbillies in Cambridge.

AdaColeman · 27/10/2021 00:42

Marks & Spencers do birthday cake hampers, some cake only or some with cake & wine. Named day delivery.

I wasn’t over impressed with Betty’s cakes, expensive for what they were, quite bland tasting. Some of the cakes had a layer of sweet hard marzipan on the base, presumably to help keep the interior sponge cake fresher, but it made the cakes over sweet. Altogether, I was quite disappointed

maxibum · 27/10/2021 00:45

Love & Cake brownies are insane, seriously best I've ever had. I always send them to friends. Loveandcake.me

Rogue1001 · 27/10/2021 00:45

Ok. Noted.

I don't know Manchester AT ALL, and I'm not on FB, so wouldn't know how or where to look locally.

I would like to support a local business, though

Whereabouts in Manchester is she? I'm Manchester based and might be able to suggest somewhere. For what it's worth I don't rate Slattery's cakes, they can be really sweet.

EsmesRedPetticoat · 27/10/2021 00:50

I second Slatterys - it’s in whitefield. They don’t deliver their celebration cakes but they do have an online shop which sells lovely freshly baked loaf cakes etc. Or you could order for her to collect for herself. It’s just down the road from Whitefield metro link stop and could have a nosy at them making the chocolates through the big glass window to the chocolate room!

BarbaraofSeville · 27/10/2021 07:30

Slattery's would be good, or M&S do a [[https://www.marksandspencer.com/colin-the-caterpillar-birthday-cake-gift/p/hpp60262271 Colin gift bag if you think she'd like that?

daisyducky · 27/10/2021 07:33

Not exactly cake but I saw a recommendation on here for gower brownies and sent some to a friend. She said they were amazing. They're freezeable too so if there's too many for her and would be the gift that keeps on giving when she fancies one!

julesover40 · 27/10/2021 07:37

Marks and Spencer do birthday deliveries, with just cake, or cake/wine/chocs etc. I sent a few during lockdown for family birthdays and they were well received.
Or Chummys bakery do next day deliveries of brownies or cookies. A friend sent my daughter a selection of brownies for her birthday and they were delicious 😋

bananagram18 · 27/10/2021 07:41

I second the recommendation of Gower Cottage Brownies. Absolutely delicious.

Bakingdiva · 27/10/2021 07:41

I agree that both Slattery's and Bettys cakes can be disappointing.

Brownies or slices might be your best bet then she can freeze them individually and get one out when she wants?

Margaritawithlime · 27/10/2021 07:45

GOWER COTTAGE BROWNIES!!! I send them as my ‘get well soon’ ‘thinking if you’ ‘sorry you have covid’ basically any occasion gifts because everyone needs to try them. Our last recipient ‘you moved house hoorah!’ Said they were god worthy,
Just order yourself a box because it’s Wednesday Grin

Lucked · 27/10/2021 07:47

Patisserie Valerie deliver. It arrives frozen and takes a day to defrost

ChipsNCurry · 27/10/2021 07:50

Hettys kitchen brownies are amazing

ivykaty44 · 27/10/2021 07:53
