How would you answer this question if you do have a student loan and the only options are 'yes' or 'no'.

'You do not have a student loan'

OP posts:

No

Bluntness100 · 26/10/2021 18:29

That’s not a question it’s a statement.

Bluntness100 · 26/10/2021 18:29

It’s also not a double negative.

hollyhocksarenotmessy · 26/10/2021 18:30

Yes (because you do not have a student loan so need to agree with the statement).

They aren't asking 'do you have a student loan?' when you would then answer no.

TenThousandSpoons · 26/10/2021 18:30

Yes, it’s right that I don’t.

But I think the form wants you to say
No, I don’t.

Palavah · 26/10/2021 18:30

Is there any preamble to the list eg 'can you confirm the following'?

ColitisSucks · 26/10/2021 18:31

Does it help to think yes = true and no = false?

TenThousandSpoons · 26/10/2021 18:31

Is there a follow up once you click? It might give a clue eg if you say yes then it starts asking you when you got the loan et

Bluntness100 · 26/10/2021 18:32

Yes I think something is missing

Please confirm the following

You do not have a student loan.

Then it’s no you don’t or yes you do.

Comefromaway · 26/10/2021 18:32

If you DO have a student loan then you would answer No as it is a false statement.

BananaPB · 26/10/2021 18:38

Would it help you to think of yes as Agree and no as disagree?

VladmirsPoutine · 26/10/2021 18:39

@ColitisSucks Yup, it does actually help to frame it as 'yes = true', 'no = false'.

OP posts:
eleanoreleanoreleanor · 26/10/2021 18:48

Yes, You do not have a student loan
No, You do not have a student loan

To me these say the same thing! How do you answer if you do have one?!

museumum · 26/10/2021 18:51

After the statement say to yourself “is that correct” then answer yes or no.

So “you do not have a student loan. Is that correct”
“No”.

emmathedilemma · 26/10/2021 18:54

You have a student loan therefore the answer is no.

CottonSock · 26/10/2021 18:56

That's a bullshit question indeed

MrsColon · 26/10/2021 18:58

Eh? It's not a double negative. If you don't have a student loan answer 'yes'.

DampSquidGames · 26/10/2021 19:42

No

Fluffyteal272 · 26/10/2021 19:45

The OP DOES have a student loan!

Fluffyteal272 · 26/10/2021 19:45

So the answer is No.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/10/2021 19:47

No

Viviennemary · 26/10/2021 19:47

Its just a very badly worded question.

hotmeatymilk · 26/10/2021 19:49

Sir Mix-a-lot likes big butts and cannot lie. His twin brother does not like big butts and cannot tell the truth. You may ask one question.

Viviennemary · 26/10/2021 19:49

What exactly is the question. Is there a question. Confused

kowari · 26/10/2021 19:53

@MrsColon

Eh? It's not a double negative. If you don't have a student loan answer 'yes'.
It would be if you do have a student loan . You'd be saying that you don't not have a student loan. Though, if worded 'No, I do not have a student loan' that would mean you don't have one. It's very bad wording. They should just ask 'Do you have a student loan?'
