Looking for opinions on this cutlery, please? Style, rather than price etc. I've already bought it but it can be returned. Just want to be sure it's not awful!

(I should clarify that I've bought it, but it's not yet arrived.)

I have got these but they were much cheaper in a sale £1 a piece. They are sturdy and wash up nice and shiny. The name on mine is Amefa.

AmyDudley · 26/10/2021 14:01

It looks like perfectly ordinary cutlery to me - I can't see anything to object to in it at all. And actually I like that style of knife with a more rounded blade (not those semi serated things you sometimes get)
But I'm not an up to date style conscious person so you may want to disregard my opinion Grin

Harley is a classic style that's been around for ever. It's fine.
(although I actually prefer Dubarry, which has more rounded handles.)

YouJustFoldItIn · 26/10/2021 14:04

It's fine. Quite classic and traditional, nothing ground breaking. The most important thing about cutlery is how it feels in your hands when using it and how it lays on the plate. Some of the more modern and interesting 'designer' styles look nice but are unbalanced and awkward to handle. When you lay them on the plate they roll around and fall off.

EdgeOfTheSky · 26/10/2021 14:06

Looks perfectly ok to me.

The big thing is how comfortable they are in your hands. Some styles dig in your palm or are too narrow to hold properly.

Zarene · 26/10/2021 14:06

I think it's a bit dated. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if a friend had it, but it's also the sort of thing I'd expect my granny to choose.

(Sorry!)

FleasInMyKnees · 26/10/2021 14:07

If you look at the Nisbetts site they have them on offer.

bogeythefungusman · 26/10/2021 14:07

Like it - quite a classic and elegant design which won't date.

cuttlefishgame · 26/10/2021 14:08

I like it and that pattern is one I've been mulling over for a while.

TertiusLydgate · 26/10/2021 14:10

It would be how it feels to me. I like cutlery to be heavy.

I am also a fan of a long tine.

mrsm43s · 26/10/2021 14:29

I think its OK, but a bit dated.

Comefromaway · 26/10/2021 14:34

I had Bead set for my wedding 22 years ago and it's still going strong. I like the Harley as well.

Grin I was going to say the opposite!

Btw good taste OP!

I think it looks dated too.

Hmm don't think it looks dated at all. It's very simple lines. It's not super modern but also not too decorated to look very dated

Case in point: MIL's fork vs mine

Prefer their "Willow" style:

EerilyDisembodied · 26/10/2021 15:02

@grey12, I think they both look dated

bogeythefungusman · 26/10/2021 15:09

Those saying it looks dated, what would you class as timeless and classic?

Laiste · 26/10/2021 15:18

I like the Willow. Clean lines.

(i have never in my life critiqued cutlery until today)

skippy67 · 26/10/2021 15:33
@grey12, I think they both look dated
Agreed.

LIZS · 26/10/2021 15:34

It is a classic design and from a respected Sheffield originated brand.

Isababybel · 26/10/2021 15:41

Mine is very similar to that OP but its Amefa. Had it since 2013 and still going strong.
What does modern cutlery look like, can anyone link an example?

fallfallfall · 26/10/2021 15:47

Looks lovely but for me it’s about the weight and balance.
I’m also fussy about the spoon shape and prefer the oval vs round.

treesandweeds · 26/10/2021 15:49

Why on earth do you care what a bunch of strangers think?! If you like it, then that's all that matters.
