My phone dropped into a bath

Need help! My phone just dropped into a bath. I immediately took it out, but I'm scared it won't work. I turned it off. What should I do next? It's an iPhone, there is no battery to take it out? Do I still have hope cause it's Apple? Are they really water resistant?

I think the advice is to put it into a bag of dried rice.

2020isnotbehaving · 25/10/2021 17:07

Bag of rice for few days to see if will dry out.
Hope for the best and cross everything!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/10/2021 17:07

yup, wipe it then shove in a bag of rice.

best of luck

dementedpixie · 25/10/2021 17:08

I wouldn't put into rice. You might get rice dust in the ports. Is it supposed to be waterproof? Leave it to dry without switching on

rushedruined · 25/10/2021 17:09

The rice thing is a myth and not advised! Don't! Just dry it out.

dementedpixie · 25/10/2021 17:09

Which iPhone is it?

rushedruined · 25/10/2021 17:09

Ask me how I know Grin

Mamamia7962 · 25/10/2021 17:09

Yes I dropped my phone in a sink full of water and put it in a bowl of rice for a couple of days. It worked fine afterwards.

whatswithtodaytoday · 25/10/2021 17:10

Put it in the airing cupboard, if you have one. Don't turn it on for at least a day.

Splashinginpuddles15 · 25/10/2021 17:15

Mine was fine after a few days . The phone fixing company I spoke to told me the most important thing is do not turn it on until it is absolutely dry , however tempting it is .
Then when it does start back it up at once because water damage such as degraded wires can suddenly have an affect months later . Good luck !

OurChristmasMiracle · 25/10/2021 17:16

Put it so that the charging port is facing downwards and leave for 24hours.

I dropped mine in a bath and googled what to do and that’s what Apple recommends.

Phone is perfectly fine

willowtree66 · 25/10/2021 17:20

I got my iPhone 8 slightly wet (not fully submerged). It worked fine for 2 weeks, then nearly burnt a hole in my leg (in a side pocket). It was so hot I thought it was about to go aflame. Then it died and nothing brought it back. Had to get a new phone. Sorry, it doesn't look hopeful. I would advise you prepare for it's demise.

Duchess379 · 25/10/2021 17:21

Bag of rice & stick it in the airing cupboard overnight 👍🏼

purplemunkey · 25/10/2021 17:21

When I dropped mine in the bath that was the end of it. I wouldn't hold out too much hope OP, sorry.

SylvanasWindrunner · 25/10/2021 17:23

If it's a newer model iPhone they're very water resistant. Mine is an XS so not mega new and can survive immersed in water of up to 2m for 30mins apparently!

Rice didn't work for us when DS1 jumped into the pool on holiday. It can't hurt to try though

HazelandChacha · 25/10/2021 17:25

@whatswithtodaytoday

Put it in the airing cupboard, if you have one. Don't turn it on for at least a day.
Or on top of the boiler, the heat from there has dried out a few of our phones over the years.

Yes this, I did this with mine. Left it about 30 hours and it was fine.
DueyCheatemAndHow · 25/10/2021 18:07

Have u got any silica sachets? Those in a bag, phone in, in airing cupboard if possible

TuftyMarmoset · 25/10/2021 18:10

Rice thing sort of worked for my old phone (iPhone 5c). Note I say sort of - it brought it back to life and it worked for about 3 more months before overheating and properly dying. So make sure it is thoroughly dry before using it.

Dillydollydingdong · 25/10/2021 18:11

I dropped mine down the toilet. It wasn't happy.

catsarebetterthandogs9 · 25/10/2021 18:11

What iPhone is it? Some are more water resistant than others.
I dropped my old XS max in the bath and used it again immediately, it was fine

icedcoffees · 25/10/2021 18:46

The new iPhones will be fine if they've only been dropped in for a few seconds.

IslaPineappple · 25/10/2021 19:00

Iphone8 and above will be fine.

Caesious · 25/10/2021 19:05

I dropped mine in the bath a few weeks ago. Used it immediately and it was absolutely fine. I was so surprised! It’s an 11 pro if that makes any difference.
