Is this a good gift for 30 year old?

Gift for daughter in law. I can't tell if this is something a young woman would like. Any opinions?

It’s a summer style and I’d think it wouldn’t get worn much now even if they love it.

I’m 48 so can’t comment if a 30 year old would like it.

queenatom · 24/10/2021 18:07

I'm 33, I personally like it but whether it's an appropriate gift is really going to come down to the taste of the individual in question. I have a couple of friends that'd be great for and others who I know would never use it. It's not inherently inappropriate for someone of her age, so if you think she'd otherwise like it then go for it!

Cotswoldmama · 24/10/2021 18:14

I like it but it's not everyone's cup of tea, I don't think it's an age thing but a style thing. And even though I like it I wouldn't be able to wear it for about 9 months as it's hardly the weather for it! I think a voucher is just as thoughtful.

I’m 34 and I love it. I quite like boho things though. I have a kimono I wear as a beach cover up a lot. Maybe get a gift receipt with it?
This might be boring but I love the homeware from anthropologie, just incase she might like that too!

whoknew23 · 24/10/2021 18:17

I'm 28 and it's not my cup of tea.

HHSchultz · 24/10/2021 18:20

My daughter is 31 and I know she would hate it.

mummabubs · 24/10/2021 18:37

I'm 33 and would err on the side of caution with buying clothes unless you really confidently know both her style and her size! (My MiL has bought me a lot of clothing as gifts over the years (including underwear 😂). It's usually a similar price range to that kimono and honestly it's always something that's either not the right size or just really not my style. I find it really awkward so end up hanging onto it for a while and then donating it with the labels still attached.

pumpkinpal · 24/10/2021 20:44

I bought it!

I can always send it back if it doesn't look good

I'm early 30's. I like it a lot but would never wear it. It would look hideous on my body shape. I also hate it when people buy me clothing as gifts. I would love a voucher for Anthropologie though!

girljulian · 24/10/2021 21:38

I second getting a voucher instead! Buying clothes for other adults is always a bit of a crapshoot. My own mother knows better than to try. Personally I cannot work out that this kimono thing is for or where on earth you’re meant to wear it (I’m 34) and I’d probably rather have had the money for it.

DappledThings · 24/10/2021 22:14

Send it back. Buying clothes for anyone is massively risky, especially something as distinctive as that.
Lightswitch123 · 24/10/2021 22:17

You're a wonderful mother in law OP! 😍

goingtotown · 24/10/2021 23:07

I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s spot clean so not ideal.

I thought making breakfast, after a shower and drying off, maybe on holiday for keeping cool ... someone told me the yoof are into kimonos at the moment Confused

I'm a bit adverse at getting vouchers or giving money as can show lack of thought and becomes a cash swapping exercise all round.

I know that approach brings risk but isn't it lovely to get a present with thought behind it?

I would absolutely love my MIL to buy that for me!

LindaEllen · 25/10/2021 11:19

I'm 31 and wouldn't wear it, but that's just because it's not my style. If it's hers, then it'd be a great gift!

amsadandconfused · 25/10/2021 11:23

Really like it and it will be great for traveling. Light and cool.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/10/2021 11:35

Its fab, but with clothing its always best to keep avenues open to allow returns and be clear on opening that this is an option for the recipient. Failing that, send it to me 😁

RussianSpy101 · 25/10/2021 11:37

In 30 and we travel a lot and I wouldn’t wear it.

WhoppingBigBackside · 25/10/2021 11:53

It's generous of you. I quite like it but I don't think I would wear it without a belt, and it probably doesn't have pockets.

I'm not 30 though.

Meloncurse · 25/10/2021 11:59

I think whether she likes it or not is a style thing not an age thing, so not something someone can answer without knowing her. It's not my sort of thing at all but would prefer it over something like this
Personally, I would buy some toiletries she likes - Clinique, Estee Lauder etc, give her some stuff to pamper herself

Whatdoihavetodo · 25/10/2021 12:11

I think it's nice but I'm not in my 30's. It is risky buying clothes for others, but it will be something she can wear to cover up on beach, or round the house in summer.

Say it can be returned if don't like it but thought it would be good for your travels and she'll see u put thought into the gift

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/10/2021 12:11

I'd have avoided it to be honest, it isn't as though she is actually going to say if she doesn't like it.

We're approaching winter so unless she is somewhere warm when would one wear it. I can't imagine wearing it travelling personally. I'm early 30's and whilst I think it's pretty, it isn't something I would consider.

Anthropologie home is nice if you like quirky, I'd have just got a voucher, most likely for another retailer.
