Board game recommendations

Hi, can you please recommend some good board games for 2 adults and an 8 and 10 year old. We're self isolating this half term so it'll give us something else to do if I order some up. Thanks Smile

MNHQ Update
This thread is a little out of date now, but if you've landed here while on the hunt for board game recommendations, our guide to the best family board games has been recently updated to reflect current availability and popularity. It includes a wide range of board game options, from strategic to silly - all tried, tested and recommended by Mumsnetters. We hope it's of some help! Flowers

Wow! So many brilliant recommendations- thank you! Great ideas for Christmas too. I'm going to look on eBay for some of the older ones. Feeling quite excited now about playing all these new games.

If you have a computer and a printer, then Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a really good game.

We loved playing Scotland Yard when I was younger. One player is a spy and is hidden on the board. The others have to find them and you all move around using buses, taxis and the underground trains.

We like the last days of old peking

Simplelobsterhat · 24/10/2021 18:40

Currently isolating with a 6 and 11 yo and we all enjoyed an Exit escape room this afternoon (too hard for 6yo really but he enjoyed being part of the team and reading stuff out).
I'd agree with Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Bugs in the kitchen, Forbidden island and exploding kittens.
We downloaded the test version of cards against humanity family edition during the first lockdown and it had my then 10 yo dd laughing more than I've ever seen her laugh, although the novelty did wear off.

I’m new to Blokus this year from the Christmas board- super easy to learn and we got absolutely beaten by the youngest one.

Explosivefarts · 24/10/2021 18:49

I second exploding kittens so much fun

YesitsBess · 24/10/2021 18:50

I'm loving this thread for ideas! Not a card game but...Zombie Fluxx is brilliant once you get the hang of it. The rules change constantly and it's brilliant.

YesitsBess · 24/10/2021 18:50

Outfoxed is like a more fun Cluedo, and suitable for small children

JaffavsCookie · 24/10/2021 19:16

Another coming in here to mention Catan ( or Settlers of Catan)
Having been a monopoly/cleudo/risk woman for many many years i am fully converted to Catan, have bought some expansions and we even have a house variant for when there are only 2 playing.
