Do you ever eat ready meals?

Inspired by my lunch, just tucking into a weight watchers chicken lasagne that is delicious..
I rarely eat ready meals but the weight watchers range is quite tasty.
Do you eat ready meals and how often?

I probably do 1-2 times a week . My kids eat at their childcare and I can’t be bothered to cook for myself every day .

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 22/10/2021 12:39

Used to eat them 4+ times a week (combo of long hours and I hate cooking Grin)

But moved to Denmark last year where there is nowhere near as many ready meals available so now I don’t but purely out of lack of options rather then a preference!

Toast also features highly…

ClaudiaWankleman · 22/10/2021 13:23

Rarely now, but grew up having them 2-4 times a week. They can be very nice, and not necessarily unhealthy (unsure of WW ones though).

Only for the two weeks when I had no kitchen!

TreeSmuggler · 22/10/2021 13:27

No, I'm not against them but I haven't tried any yet that are really nice. If I can't be bothered to cook I'd have a sandwich, fruit, cheese and crackers or random bits from cupboard.

JuneFromBethesda · 22/10/2021 13:28

Probably once a week. A lovely lazy family dinner involves going to M&S and everyone choosing their own thing, so everyone gets exactly what they want and nobody has to compromise because of any other family member’s likes or dislikes. Usually pizza or pasta of some description so nothing fancy but still feels like a treat.

WhiskyXray · 22/10/2021 13:29

Tinned soup, yes, but the only mircowaveable ready meal I liked (Sainsbury's Thai red curry) seems to have been discontinued

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 22/10/2021 13:31

Maybe once or twice a month. Unless you count freezer foods like fish fingers/ chicken nuggets/ potato waffles, because that's my lazy night go to

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 22/10/2021 13:32

I love the odd ready meal but tend to splash out on M&S or Cook as they ingredients are exactly what you'd use at home.

The ingredient list of processed crap in weight watchers ready meals just to make them palatable would make you weep if you read them. Fillers and flavour enhancers and very little of what you'd find in your food cupboard.

Caspianberg · 22/10/2021 13:33

No. They aren’t really a thing where I live, so not really available.
They sell stuff like ready made stuffed pasta, so something like that or scrambled eggs on toast is our go to ‘fast’ meals.

Firesidefox · 22/10/2021 13:33

Almost never, but if I do, it's one from Cook.

The older I get, the more I dislike them.

Lunaballoon · 22/10/2021 13:34

I’m not against them, but if I want something quick I’ll simply knock up something that takes little time like pasta carbonara.

FlatteredFool · 22/10/2021 13:35

I used to love the Tesco cheese and bean enchiladas but I don't think they have done them for about 20 years now Sad Tesco's tomato and mozzarella bake was lovely until they altered the recipe. I can't remember the last time I had a ready meal now but I used to love them as a once a week or so thing.

cheapskatemum · 22/10/2021 13:35

No. I stopped out of necessity when I was diagnosed with sensitivity to wheat & dairy products as there weren't any I could eat at that time. Now they are available, I look at them & think how I could make the meal easily for less money & it would be fresher, so don't bother. I like cooking though.

urbanbuddha · 22/10/2021 13:35

Not often, maybe once a month, mabe less often. There are always a couple lurking in the freezer. Tesco Finest Chorizo Mac and Cheese is a current favourite - it needs 12 hours to defrost in the fridge first though.

ZittiEBuoni · 22/10/2021 13:35

Every Friday, from M&S.

Chicken pie with their triple-cooked chips and veg tonight. (not strictly a 'ready meal' this time but the only effort from me is putting them into the oven and microwave, so I'm counting it)

JaneDoe21 · 22/10/2021 13:36

No. I don't like them I think they are really mushy and gross but I'm extremely fussy about food. I'd rather home cooked especially for kids.

ancientgran · 22/10/2021 13:36

Occasionally, usually if I've been to M&S as I like their chicken Provencal, just do some new potatoes and veg to go with it and it is very tasty. DH likes a chicken tikka so I usually have one in the freezer so I can do that if I don't feel like cooking.

NoraLuka · 22/10/2021 13:38

The DDs see them as a treat so we have them sometimes, but they are quite expensive where we live so we don't have them often. Our local supermarket has started stocking a wider range (i.e. more than 2!) of veggie ready meals so I might have to test those.

notacooldad · 22/10/2021 13:39

Not very often.im not anti ready meal or anything but I usually have a decent amount of ingredients that I can make something quickly if I need to.

Occasionly at work, if I have got back to the office later tha I intended because I've been on a call somewhere and missed a regular meal time I may look in the works freezer to see if there is anything I fancy.

CornishGem1975 · 22/10/2021 13:40

Only when I am dieting as it really helps my portion control! I generally am a cook-from-scratch kind of person but I have no self-control.

Have to say I've had a few WW ones recently and really enjoyed that chicken lasagne!

Christmas1988 · 22/10/2021 13:41

Nearly daily but I’ve converted to Gusto now so haven’t had a ready meal for around 4 months.

MrsKDB · 22/10/2021 13:43

Never. I think they are horrible. My in laws eat them almost exclusively.

SirenSays · 22/10/2021 13:45

No, they're a waste of money for me they always end up in the bin. The last one I had was supposed to be a shepherd's pie. It was like brown water and little bits of gristle and mince fat with soggy soulless mash on top.

jojogoesbust · 22/10/2021 13:48

Every now and again, me and my daughter have a chicken tikka masala from Iceland as a Friday night treat. I think they are £1.79. Very tasty for the cost
