When you kind of hope that a new thread meanders on quietly because it means that life is being fairly stable...

What are ADs?

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.^

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

I'm on the slow side making Christmas plans and don't have a lot on. Still better than last year though.

I've booked my booster for this week. Now I'm conspicuously wandering around with a bare face, I feel happier that I'll have immunity boosted before Christmas. I also don't want to scupper my super-spreader event and Marathon around the end of March. I also feel happier that I've chosen my timing rather than a sense of being coerced. I struggled with dose 1 so hope I'm not walloped by side effects again. I'm presuming it's a different make because my first was AZ and ended up at the younger end as the concern about clots developed around that time.

@smallandimperfectlyformed, no worries. I talk a lot about DS on here and not so much about DD1.

I am not really making any plans though I will be doing basic cards.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 05/12/2021 14:34

Today I am feeling sorry for myself. I am sick to the back teeth of my flat and whilst I love my kids I am sick of them too! The younger 2 in particular are annoying me because we are all just going stir crazy. I also have to do some online training and it's bloody hard work with kids in the flat!

amicissimma · 05/12/2021 15:11

@BogRollBOGOF, I had 2 x AZ and felt very fluey after the first. My booster was Moderna (I assumed it would be Pfizer) and apart from being a bit tender at the site (ached slightly, but worst if I prodded it) for about 3 days, I had no effects from the booster.

Of course we can't extrapolate from me to you, but I hope you have similar!

justasking111 · 05/12/2021 23:29

Was thinking tonight with all the festivities coming up and the Omicron seemingly mild if people will avoid taking a test just in case they're told to isolate??

Thought you might appreciate this

@Taswama that made me laugh. And made me feel better that someone is taking the piss!

Anyone taking the booster may want to read Caroline Criado Perez’s newsletter this week. Women’s fat distribution affects bodily response to vaccinations. It also gives a clue as to why obesity remains a risk factor for the vaccinated.

The size of pricks really does matter for women Grin

Got email from daughters school. Parents no longer allowed to attend the nativity performance- previously we were told we'd only have one parent/carer allowed to attend, masks were asked to be worn (unless exempt) and we were also asked to do an LFT too. They said that they will stream it on Google classroom but it's not the same Xmas Sad

Link newsletter.carolinecriadoperez.com/issues/invisible-women-default-male-injections-904923

Basically the needles need to be longer for women to ensure intra muscular injection.

In summary, Injecting into fat makes the vaccine less effective and also increases the risk of side effects. Women’s fat distribution means we have more subcutaneous fat in the shoulder area, and also anyone male or female who is carrying excess body fat will also need a longer needle.

Sons Train cancelled storm BARRA pretty fed up

justasking111 · 07/12/2021 19:04

Explains my tender heavy arm tonight! For a supposedly rabid Covid-Denier, I've had rather a lot of vaccinations this year! Grin I'm fairly muscular on the arms/shoulders and have finally lost my bit of annoying lockdown lard, so I'm probably alright. I haven't validated my vaccine by broadcasting over social media and getting frames on my profile though.

Being a shortarse, it is definitely a man's world. I was proud of myself for using a left hand petrol pump today. Having a big car (I did actually find a comfortable one to drive because most aren't) I find it hard to pull the hose around the back end and at most petrol stations it takes both my tiny hands to squeeze the handle so pulling with my weight on the hose is hard going. There's not many petrol stations with a good hose/ handle combo.

ADs. I am genuinely scared and troubled. I read a ‘conspiracy theory’ post that the Downing St party leak is to oust Boris Johnson and put a more biddable/ pro vaccine passport prime minister in place.

Given that all the logical evidence points to vaccine passports being a complete waste of time, there is no good reason to introduce them. Neither masks nor passports are controlling cases on places where they are in place. As everyone, poverty, age and population poor health remain the biggest western drivers of death figures. Yet here we are still arguing about them,

And all those smug ‘well I’m fully jabbed “ idiots will only be fully jabbed for a few more months. As zuby said, it’s not a vaccination, it’s a subscription….

Completely on a downer on where this is going, and the weather isn’t helping

ISaySteadyOn · 08/12/2021 06:58

I am worried too especially when I look at Europe. I wish I had reassurance for you. But all I can say is you are not alone Flowers

110APiccadilly · 08/12/2021 07:30

I've always held to, "Never ascribe to conspiracy what can be explained by incompetence," but I admit the vaccine passport stuff is so bewildering (esp. given the new variant) that I struggle! I don't think England will buy it though - there is a long tradition in most of Europe of having to carry ID all the time which does make it easier to introduce this sort of thing. (Goodness knows what Drakeford or Sturgeon will do if they can get away with it though - the best hope of those of us in Wales/ Scotland is that the system becomes unworkable without England also doing it I reckon.)

WouldBeGood · 08/12/2021 07:48

I’m worried too.

I was thinking that the vaccine passports are really more so they know where we are than actually preventing spread, and it’s really scary

Worldgonecrazy · 08/12/2021 08:08

I guess what troubles me most about vaccine passports is they give credence to the conspiracy theorists who have stayed often that this is t about a virus.

ISaySteadyOn · 08/12/2021 08:16

I am not sure which is worse, tbh.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/12/2021 08:22

@Worldgonecrazy

I think they would also massively erode our national level of trust in vaccination both for this jab and generally to the long term detriment of society, and add fuel to those who actually are anti-vaxx (not just hesitant about a specific jab).

I've got a dead arm today that doesn't want to move. I'm hesitant to inflict that on my children when the gains of prorecting them of what is statistically likely to be a normal range of cold is pretty poor. It hurt too much to try and get my jumper off at bedtime. Feeling generally fine otherwise.

I'm hoping that things settle after Christmas. The Covid Catastrophisers always get twitchy towards some kind of event/ transition. At new year, the path to spring always looks clearer... I know that didn't follow last year, but we'd already had a light lockdown and hospitalisations were more concerning.

Most people are just fed up and want to be free to get on with real normal.

OP posts:
ISaySteadyOn · 08/12/2021 08:36

That's what I am finding. Here's a tiny bit of good news even if it is only local to me. My library is still completely normal. Normal opening hours, no booking, no signs on the doors and nobody seems bothered about masks or not. Which is very different to last winter.

ISaySteadyOn · 08/12/2021 09:00

Why do children have such antipathy for efficiency?!
