£5 for a bottle of milk!

Fuck. I booked my grocery slot with a bottle of milk then forgot to fill the basket. They’re delivering a single bottle of milk and charging me £4 delivery fee because my total spend isn’t enough! What do I do? Just not answer the door? I can’t afford to pay £5 for a bottle of milk.

If you don't answer the door won't you be charged the delivery fee anyway?

BananaBonbon · 19/10/2021 08:52

I figured if they didn’t make the delivery I wouldn’t be charged for it?

@GettingLardy what she means is the supermarket delivery driver will take the item back because there’s no one there to receive. It’s a missed delivery then. If the item can’t be delivered then the money will be refunded.

@BananaBonbon it may take a couple weeks to get the refund in your account though.

Why not try calling their customer service number and see what they say? Honestly, if you allow them to send a delivery to your house and then just don't answer the door, you certainly deserve to be charged the delivery fee, whether or not you actually will be.

GettingLardy · 19/10/2021 08:56

I thought the item would be refunded but the delivery charge would still be taken.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 19/10/2021 08:57

Call them and cancel

BananaBonbon · 19/10/2021 08:59

You can only cancel until about 11.30 the night before. If it’s a missed delivery then they should just refund? But if I answer the door they will charge me. I think.

Handle it like an adult and call them. Hiding behind the curtains and wasting people’s time because of your mistake is juvenile at best.

Mumdiva99 · 19/10/2021 09:00

Lesson learnt. You should always fill the basket with wine or champagne so that if you forget to sort it at least you get a good delivery. Grin

I agree with call them up.....ask for it to be cancelled. If you are a regular customer i'm sure it will be honoured.

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/10/2021 09:01

Call them. A friend of mine did this and they said it happened all the time.

Thesearmsofmine · 19/10/2021 09:01

I would call them. Don’t waste the delivery drivers time by just hiding away.

JollyAndBright · 19/10/2021 09:01

I did this a few weeks ago…. It was £7.80 for a bag of carrots. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I called the store I knew they were picking it at and they canceled the delivery and I wasn’t charged.

BananaBonbon · 19/10/2021 09:02

It’s due in half an hour, it’ll already be on the van so I can’t ring and cancel it. Fuck fuck fuck.

YodaiamsaidI · 19/10/2021 09:05

I'm sure you'll still be charged the delivery fee so it'll only save you a £1

KenAddams · 19/10/2021 09:06

Lesson learned... Accept ur fate 😂😂

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 19/10/2021 09:06

The drivers have mobile phones, they can contact them. Just ring them ffs

CocaColaTruck1 · 19/10/2021 09:08

Just ring them tell them you don't want it and hopefully they'll get in touch with driver and you won't get your expensive milk!

Brollywasntneededafterall · 19/10/2021 09:12

Came on to ask if it was unicorn milk..

Monsterjam · 19/10/2021 09:13

I’ve missed a delivery before, refunded me the shopping not the delivery fee. You might as well take in your milk

Cace · 19/10/2021 09:14

You need to ring or open the door to the driver and explain when he arrives. What supermarket is it?

BananaBonbon · 19/10/2021 09:15

I’ve called them and apologised profusely. For future reference, if you answer the door and reject the delivery, or if you don’t answer, either way they refund the item but not the delivery charge. So not answering the door doesn’t help you. However if you cry because you’re on a low income they will refund the delivery as a goodwill gesture and tell you not to do it again or you will be charged.

Let this be a lesson op Grin in future do as pp suggested & use something decent (wine, fizz, spirits) as a placeholder or put all your weekly basics in. That way if you do forget you've got your day to day bits & only have to think about meals.

At least you saved the drivers time and will remember in future. It would have been wrong to let him come Smile
