What did you think would be more glamorous or impressive than it was?

As a kid I thought that being an actor would be fun and exciting and I'm sure it has its moments but watching the behind the scenes videos much of it looks miserable and dull. Especially action movies where they're required to get drenched with every substance known to man and have explosions and fire going off around them.

What didn't live up to expectations for you?

Oh, OK, I never go there, just stay in my seat on court, or sit on the Hill.

TW10Mum · 19/10/2021 17:33

Vegas was so dull. I liked the old bits best but had looked forward to it for year

Leedsfan247 · 19/10/2021 17:35

You must have gone at the wrong time of the year - I found it stunning and unique

GingerLiberalFeminist · 19/10/2021 17:35

The Cistine Chapel. I went this year (and am a big art fan). It was much smaller than I had anticipated.

Also, Michaelangelo clearly did the ceiling then went "sod this" and painted curtains on the walls.

C49cat · 19/10/2021 17:36

Sydney Opera House - it was a dirty white with some broken tiles and not as big as expected.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 19/10/2021 17:40

Hard Rock Cafe in London.
A burger at Spoons is better, at least you won't have that 'ripped off' feeling afterward.

MrsHookey · 19/10/2021 17:43

The advertising industry.

themagicnumberthree · 19/10/2021 17:47

Casinos. Brightly lit with zero ambiance and shite decor. Not James Bond-esque at all

marktayloruk · 19/10/2021 17:51

Story of my life!

While I did like the Opera House, Sydney itself was generally a bit disappointing for me. I'd always had this image of it as this glamorous, glittering and cosmopolitan place, but I thought it was surprisingly small and parochial-feeling and in many areas grubby. And everything seemed to slow down and then shut down by about 5pm.
WorkBitch · 19/10/2021 17:54

Definitely being an adult 🤣

Ibelieveinghosts · 19/10/2021 18:01

Paris - quite literally a shit hole.

munchkinman · 19/10/2021 18:01

Ooh I love Venice but never smelt any sewage…

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/10/2021 18:03

Lobster. I simply don't understand the fuss about it.

undersleptagain · 19/10/2021 18:07

Paris and Rome`

Tessabelle74 · 19/10/2021 18:15

Niagara falls. Tacky and over comercialised and had a strip of shops that made me think of shoddy seaside towns.

IntermittentParps · 19/10/2021 18:21

I rather like Paris. Haven't ever really done the touristy things like the tower or a boat on the Seine, but have enjoyed just wandering about interesting areas. I find it pretty helpful and friendly as well, despite its reputation.

I think it depends on the time of year/temperature. We went in a February half term when DD was off on a school trip - it wasn't excessively crowded and didn't smell.
Goldenphoenix · 19/10/2021 18:25

The Maldives - food was great, very luxurious lodgings but my god it was boring. Absolutely nothing to see apart from sea, sea and more sea and it felt so manufactured

darklindor · 19/10/2021 18:34

Honeysuckle.

The reality was so disappointing to an inner city child who had only read about it in books.

Bakingcupcake · 19/10/2021 18:42

@ProudMaiasaura

New York, genuinely can't think of a single positive about the place but others rave about it. Maybe I'm too poor to enjoy New York properly.
Totally agree i hated NY wouldn't go back nicer cities to see, i felt v.unsafe too just hated it!
Thisgroupneverceasestoamazeme · 19/10/2021 18:48

Wine and Niagara Falls (well the surrounding area) is really built up and like a tacky seaside resort. I’d always imagined it would be in a really picturesque setting.

Lincslady53 · 19/10/2021 18:50

@FKATondelayo

I didn't mind the Vatican but the Uffizi in Florence is a load of shite.

Art galleries generally, especially with children. I'm starting to think paying £20 a head to look at some boring old pictures is the biggest confidence trick / fraud of our time.

Go on your own and have an audio guide.
SallyWD · 19/10/2021 18:51

Hollywood. You imagine it's quite a glamorous place but it's quite shabby and seedy.

Burgess67A · 19/10/2021 18:51

The Grand Canyon
