What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

@MintyGreenDream

4th year would be 9 year olds here! ??
4th year in Scotland would be 4th year of secondary so 14/15 year old.
Zilla1 · 17/10/2021 21:44

Am wondering if @nauticant and my school's car bomb were the same incident. I wonder what was the teacher's subject to see if's the same incident?

Lovelydovey · 17/10/2021 21:44

In more recent times, I think the rogue gunman outside my children’s primary school necessitating a full lockdown of the school and armed police presence probably counts.

This happened at a local school

www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/scottish-news/540418/art-teacher-who-chatted-with-pupil-14-online-and-invited-him-to-meet-her-on-a-date-is-banned-from-classroom/

The school had a change in head. Previous head had ignored it and we soon found out why... he had got a pupil at his previous school pregnant.

New head was told and dealt with it right away. One of dd's friends then saw the woman as cabin crew on her flight to London.

@BaronessKareness

When the 15/16 year olds went on strike!! Made the local papers. Can’t remember why though!! It was around 1977.
This happened at my school Baroness, and at about the same time...same school, maybe, or just a common occurrence in the 70s
WhenISnappedAndFarted · 17/10/2021 21:46

Maths teacher got fired for inappropriate behaviour towards female students.

Groovee · 17/10/2021 21:47

My memory of 3rd year in Scotland was the girl who told everyone she was pregnant... then she told people she was 10 months. Then she claimed some woman beat her up and she lost the baby. She left school and had numerous children... all removed at birth.

ChrissyPlummer · 17/10/2021 21:48

Two teachers having an affair, they weren’t that discreet. She’d drive round the corner at lunchtime and he’d go and get in the car, she’d drop him at the corner on the way back 😂. She was married, he wasn’t.

One of the technicians started seeing a girl as soon as she left, there were rumours about them for ages though. Still together now I believe almost 30 years later.

One teacher who was always off sick with one thing and another. She eventually left on ill-health after getting divorced, but my parents had a shop in the area she lived and her DM and new DH used to come in. Her DH used to be a super-fit marathon runner and gym goer. Sadly, after meeting they both became alcoholics. He was found dead on a park bench, she died at home a couple of years later. Neither of them were even 50 ☹️.

Another teacher died from a burst ulcer.

A lad a couple of years below me died after sniffing that gas stuff you fill lighters with.

A few years after we left, another lad who’d been in my form died after a fall.

Just some things in the 5 years I was there (late 80s)... there's been worse since including a child murder that made national news and a very well known child sexual exploitation Court case.

A year 2 (y8) boy ODing on Ectasy at the Christmas disco and ambulance called.

'Hip' Woodwork teacher (very overweight late 30s) openly 'dating' 5th former including sharing a room on a overseas residential.

Same residential, teachers drinking with 4th and 5th years every night. (Y10/11). That trip happened every year and carried on same set up for years later as confirmed by younger siblings. Kids were picked to attend (was meant to be sports based. But not much sport happened!) Boys in girls rooms etc.

Annual 1st years residential where the canoe instructor was a known paedo. Tried it on with several girls each trip (note 11 and 12 year olds!).

For about 4 years there was a Headmaster who no one EVER saw. In fact it wasn't clear if he actually still worked at our school. He seemed to not be there at all but it was always implied he was in his office. No Assemblies nothing. School run by deputy.

Some very sad things. Couple of suicides and just after leaving a boy kills his girlfriend with a pipe.

PE teacher caught shagging history teacher in a store cupboard. Leave their partners. Keep jobs stay at school as a couple.

Geography teacher who obviously drank was renowned for inviting girls to his room for extra support.

School discos with smuggled in alcohol - from 2nd year. Blind eye generally turned. As in no one ever got refused entry or sent home.

A disco where around 8 boys 'slept' with same girl in an empty corridor.

For some reason one of the most notorious stories was a girl telling the deputy head to Go fuck himself when asked to tuck her shirt in. Taking her tie off, throwing it at him and walking off her premises never to return. People spoke of it for years later.

Kid falling off a wall and getting impaled on an iron railing (they survived).

Child going round to science teachers house and throwing a brick through her window. Because she gave a detention.

It was an eventful 5 years. I needed therapy in my 20s just to process it!

Hunkahunkaa · 17/10/2021 21:49

my former PE teacher had an affair with a student after grooming her. his wife had just had a baby too, it was all over the news when he was convicted.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 17/10/2021 21:49

One of the teachers was having a very blatant affair with a girl in the Upper 6th. I remember seeing them slope in together from down the side of the Sports Hall during the 6th Form Christmas Party, and I saw them in the pub with other teachers, who must have known what was going on. We thought it was madly sleazy at the time, but in hindsight it’s as dodgy as fuck.

There was also a girl who had her step-father’s baby. Ick.

Hardybloodyhar · 17/10/2021 21:49

Ours was another teacher pupil liaison. Teacher was later convicted for indecent dealings with a minor & child exploitation. He was busted with one of those worldwide child sex rings obviously he was no longer teaching by then. Vile pig.

opinionminion · 17/10/2021 21:50

My year group went on strike due to a fellow pupil being expelled if that wasn't bad enough my friend told the local papers and they turned up !!!

SapphireSeptember · 17/10/2021 21:51

I was one, in Year 7 I opened a door and it fell on top of me. Grin Nowadays my parents would have sued, as it was I cried a bit but was as right as rain afterwards.

Zilla1 · 17/10/2021 21:51

A school I was acquainted with took advantage of early Academisation through a mix of employment, consultancy and indirectly owned or controlled suppliers and arguably worse practices by the Head, his wife and children to hoover several £m with lots of Ministerial visits and publicity at the time for their good work that others should emulate before the then-DfES understood what went on and such publicity abruptly ended. The staff who understood what was going on were systematically replaced with young, cheaper newly-qualifieds.

Nillynally · 17/10/2021 21:51

@Brollywasntneededafterall

In middle school a teacher was suspended for accusing me and a friend of 'looking at each other in a woman's love manner'!! Confused
And were you?! Halo
MrsKellySeveride · 17/10/2021 21:53

The same morning that the news broke in the local community that the HT at DS's primary school was suspended for embezzling thousands of pounds from school funds, there was a significant fire at a charity/trustful establishment in the town.
Between leaving for the school run at 8:30am and arriving at school at 8:50am, the gossip mongers had declared that HT had fire bombed the business - my friend told me as if it were absolute FACT. I did try to reason that the HT didn't live in our town and probably had enough to worry about with the embezzlement charge, but she wouldn't hear otherwise and there was no one she hadn't gotten to with this theory.

I do sometimes bring it up in conversation - "do you remember the time you told the world that Mrs Jones firebombed the RSPCA?" * names changed, obvs!

MydogWillow · 17/10/2021 21:54

@Sugaris

I still can’t think about the Incident at my school without feeling traumatised, let alone write it down, even though I wasn’t involved.
@sugaris I'm sorry this is affecting you still. Have you been able to talk it through with anyone?
Twillow · 17/10/2021 21:55

@Kezzie200

To much detail will possibly out me but a drug dealer was killed outside our school at leaving time. Seen by a good number of school children.
If this was a primary school I know that incident, it was awful.
SurferRona · 17/10/2021 21:59

@Dontknowwhatsnext

I can't think of just one.

We had a student PE teacher who was seeing a friend of mine when we were in year 11.

We had the RE trip where there was 40% sent home after room search as weed and alcohol was found (my year again).

Teacher found dead in mysterious circumstances in the car park.

Student found a (different) dead body. On the walk home from school.

My younger cousin who kept bragging of having abortions, because she thought it made her look older. She wasn't best pleased when I told her mum, my auntie.

At 6th form there was rumour a teacher was seeing student in the year above. She transferred to a college. A year later they were an official couple but both claimed they were when she went to school there.

All caused loads of gossip.

We’re you at Grange Hill @Dontknowwhatsnext? Think I recognise all of these! Grin
Flumo · 17/10/2021 22:00

It's just came to light that one of my old science teacher was watching school girl porn using the schools WiFi. This was only the start of the year 🤢

LittleDoritt · 17/10/2021 22:02

One of the first years had an epileptic fit while he was having his school dinner. He choked and died in the middle of the dining hall.

ASeriesOfTubes · 17/10/2021 22:03

There was a local-ish school that was involved in a tragic road accident with many of the young pupils killed, a few friends of friends so did touch our school as well.

If that's the one I think it is a couple of them are buried side-by-side in the cemetery near where I grew up. Best friends, apparently.

At my own school when I was a 1st year (year 7 now) my 50-ish science teacher had sex with a 3rd year girl I vaguely knew, at her instigation so I heard, in the back of his wife's car.

A girl in my sister's year was a mother twice by the time they took their GCSE's.

Bloodylovecheese · 17/10/2021 22:03

PE teacher driving into work with his wife the Chemistry teacher and a dad of a 13 year old climbing on to the bonnet of his car and screaming at him through the windscreen to stop touching up his daughter. The whole school watched as they walked through the entrance.
The PE teacher then disappeared and was later seen working as a caretaker in another school 2 years later. This was the 80's Shock

Does this have anything to do with TY?
