Parking in front of a ‘No Parking’ sign

Why? Why do people do this? There is a car parked outside my house, it’s been there since lunchtime. It’s parked a foot away from my living room window. She must’ve seen the no parking notice - it’s in the window right in front of her car!

I can understand why she might’ve initially thought she could park there - the front of our house does look as though it could be part of the restaurant next door. People often pull up, then presumably see the no parking sign as they drive straight off. I’m starting to wonder if she did go into the restaurant though as she’s been parked there about six hours now.

(I’ll draw a diagram)

What sort of no parking sign is it?

OddBoots · 16/10/2021 19:40

Is it an official no parking sign, private property or something you have put up yourself on the public road?

I'd not park in front of it but if it is a legal parking spot then a sign would be like a red rag to a bull to some people, it's make them want to park there more.

gardeninggirl68 · 16/10/2021 19:41

your own sign? its not enforceable though is it? is she parked illegally?

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/10/2021 19:41

IDs it an official sign it home made?

AshyBlueBear · 16/10/2021 19:42

It’s my private property away from the road. It’s not an official sign as such.

Clamp it?

eurochick · 16/10/2021 19:44

The usual MN schtick is: block her in; make her beg.

gardeninggirl68 · 16/10/2021 19:45

you can't clamp a legally parked vehicle!!

clockover · 16/10/2021 19:48

Fence it?

ISeeTheLight · 16/10/2021 19:49

Next to DDs school is public parking. The school was built at the same time as the estate, in the 70s.
A man who lives in a flat right next to the public parking has put up his own handmade sign saying residents parking only. Everyone parks there anywhere as its public parking. Every so often he comes out fuming.

Unless there's a dropped kerb, double yellow lines or it's a public road OP you don't have a leg to stand on.

hellcatspangle · 16/10/2021 19:49

So are they parked on your private property, or just in a public road outside your house?

DeireadhFomhair · 16/10/2021 19:50

Some people don't care, and park wherever they want. Angry

Holyridonkulus · 16/10/2021 19:51

Think we need diagram and/or photos op

OverByYer · 16/10/2021 19:53

If there are no official parking restrictions then not much you can do.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 16/10/2021 19:54

A pic of your home made sign would be fab.

freelions · 16/10/2021 19:55

We definitely need a diagram

I can't understand how your house can be away from a public road but next to a restaurant

Is the area where the car is parked on private property?

ivykaty44 · 16/10/2021 19:56

It sounds like the car is parked on the ops property

Sirzy · 16/10/2021 19:56

Is the boundary of the property clear?

ivykaty44 · 16/10/2021 19:58

some people don't read signs

AshyBlueBear · 16/10/2021 20:02

Ok here is a diagram. Everything edged in pink is my boundary. Yellow is the restaurant. Many years ago my house was also owned by the restaurant. In a way my house is like an island within their boundary so we have a right of way to get to the road. Hope that makes sense.

I’m always in the block them in club

AshyBlueBear · 16/10/2021 20:05

The boundary of the property is not clear. But there are clear signs to the restaurant car park.

I’m not sure she can have been in the restaurant though, as the car is still there.

OP posts:
AshyBlueBear · 16/10/2021 20:07

She’s not in my way at all as we can fit 6 cars out the front and we only own one. It’s more the cheek of it. And like where’s she gone?

OP posts:
Sirzy · 16/10/2021 20:07

If it’s not got clear boundaries then I get why people are getting confused!

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 16/10/2021 20:10

She might be new staff in the restaurant, given how long she's been there?
