Parking in front of a ‘No Parking’ sign

Why? Why do people do this? There is a car parked outside my house, it’s been there since lunchtime. It’s parked a foot away from my living room window. She must’ve seen the no parking notice - it’s in the window right in front of her car!

I can understand why she might’ve initially thought she could park there - the front of our house does look as though it could be part of the restaurant next door. People often pull up, then presumably see the no parking sign as they drive straight off. I’m starting to wonder if she did go into the restaurant though as she’s been parked there about six hours now.

(I’ll draw a diagram)

Yes, it is confusing but other people seem to manage!

She is the first person in a while to park there for such a long period of time. But we do often get quite a few cars at school drop off time as a school coach stops nearby and parents pick kids up from there.

It doesn’t usually bother me people parking for a short space of time as I appreciate its not obvious and it’s a great drop off/pick up stop in the village.

leave a note saying its free the first time but after that there will be a charge applied....

ahem penguin bollards?

Would it be possible to fence the area off?

If I start getting the adverts again, I'll hold you personally responsible Wink

I'd go in to the restaurant & ask if they've a new staff member & if so explain the situation then block them in if they do it again

Not sure a fence or penguin bollards would really be an option as they are listed buildings in a conservation area.

Sorry @BernardsarenotalwaysSaints Grin

What about planters? Movable when you need to move them, but shows the boundary? You could always put in some sort of chain fencing to close the area off.

@longtompot planters don't really seem to work, as drivers go round them to get where they want

A lot of people are just thick and oblivious. We have a T-bar painted across our driveway because of previous problems with people parking overhanging or across our driveway.

We know it’s not legally enforceable and just a guideline, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to go out and stop someone parking over the line and across the driveway.

‘Oh but I’m only overhanging by a couple of feet, that’s ok isn’t it?’

‘I didn’t see the line or the driveway.’

‘Do you need to get out of your drive for a couple of hours? Can you call me and ask me to move?’

‘The line isn’t legal so I can just park over it.’

Yeah, I mean I shouldn’t have to resort to bollards, planters, and fences. People should just respect the no parking signs! It’s very obvious it’s not part of the public road and even if it’s not obvious that’s it’s a private house rather than part of the restaurant do they still shouldn’t park there. There is plenty of parking available.

Which is why I said about putting a chain fence across.

I agree @AshyBlueBear you shouldn't have to do this. But some people are parking there as they think it's part of the restaurant so something needs to be done to show it's private.

To clarify, you personally own the very land the car is parked on? If so, block them in!
AshyBlueBear · 16/10/2021 21:54

Yes, that’s correct @PumpkinsandTea
