Why do you think you are being unreasonable?

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2021 11:49

I'm still working my way through the episodes. They are astonishing. Everyone should know about this

The last episode is devastating. Impartiality of BBC and Ofcom (as our national broadcaster and as the body supposed to monitor it) is brought under a spotlight. BBC has redefined what it means to be homosexual as "same gender attracted". Yes, everyone should be aware of this.

AngeloMysterioso · 16/10/2021 11:59

Why specifically parents of teenagers?

Blessex · 16/10/2021 12:00

@BoreOfWhabylon @joodyblue

It’s astonishing right? How we, and national organisations have been gaslit.

I've got a cold and the weather is grim. Perfect conditions for catching up with this. I've listened to the first four this morning. Steeling myself now for episode 5, which is about the Tavistock Gender ID clinic for under 18s.

Very good no nonsense, clear, rigorous approach from the presenters. This is the standard of journalism from the BBC I grew up to expect, and which has been sadly lacking of late. Objectivity and the ability to look critically at evidence and then talk about it in straightforward language and make it understandable to non-specialists.

Blessex · 16/10/2021 12:01

@AngeloMysterioso well clearly it affects everybody. But let’s start with our kids.

Episode 5 is the one that every parent and adult working with children needs to hear. Dr David Bell is wise, compassionate and centres children / teenagers in everything he says.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 16/10/2021 12:07

it feels to me like teenagers are most at risk

they've been subjected to straight up propaganda from CBBC, and they have the most to lose (their fertility and their long term health) if they get caught up in this.

I do think parents of teenagers need to keep a close eye on this issue

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/10/2021 12:08

I'm so glad my children are late 20s and largely missed this. A teacher on another thread in the last couple of days said in a recent PHSE class it emerged that the whole class of year 9s (so 13 and 14 years old) believed that it was literally possible to change sex through surgery and hormone treatment, and then to reproduce in the new sex. This is not possible and never will be.

The outcomes of sexual reassignment surgery are actually very poor and the vast majority of those who have it become infertile and lose any possibility of having a satisfactory sex life. Given this, it's fortunate that it's very rare to have this surgery (another thing many people don't understand - the vast majority of people who self-describe as trans are not having SRS).

It's not surprising that so many teenagers are confused, as the language used and the self-promotion going on on various social media platforms is very misleading and hard to make sense of.

Thanks for the link. I’ll be listening to it this weekend.

Yes… but why teenagers?

YeOldeTrout · 16/10/2021 12:14

Oh FFS. More anti-trans paranoia from MNers. Plus evangelical " Mumsnetters must embrace my Agenda!" self importance soapbox.

Thanks for teaching me what I.Do.Not.Want.To.Listen.To.

Blessex · 16/10/2021 12:14

@AngeloMysterioso episode 5

@YeOldeTrout fortunately your ‘No debate’ agenda is now dead. We will debate and critically evaluate.

Have you tried to listen?
Reptar · 16/10/2021 12:18

Sticking your fingers in your ears and name calling is antithetical to safeguarding.

CorrBlimeyGG · 16/10/2021 12:23

We will debate and critically evaluate.

No, you'll stay in your hateful echo chamber and ignore any differing views.

YeOldeTrout · 16/10/2021 12:24

It's recurring that someone comes on MN & tries to reshape this place to take up their soapbox issue. Does anyone recall Shami Chakrabarti's efforts to make MNers embrace her priorities?

The evangelical aspect is enough to put me off ever wanting to listen to any of them. Never mind how repeatedly obsessed MN posters are with trans people. How could I come on here sporadically and NOT be aware of your anti-trans campaign and viewpoints?

Blessex · 16/10/2021 12:27

@YeOldeTrout @corrblimeygg that’s fine. Have you listened though ? Others now are.

Ledition · 16/10/2021 13:03

Why specifically parents of teenagers?

Pretty obvious why? It's an ideology that would never have made such waves if it wasn't for the buy-in of underdeveloped teenage brains.

JoodyBlue · 16/10/2021 13:09

@YeOldeTrout it isn't anti-trans and you would know that if you listened. You can't critcicise something you have no experience of. Listen, then criticise the issues it raises. Simples.

mammajustkilledagnat · 16/10/2021 13:13

"hateful echo chamber and ignore any differing views"

Oh the irony.

I sat and listened to all of the podcast, all ten episodes, whilst working from home yesterday. I found it to be very fair and balanced. There is equal weight given to those who believe in gender and those who don't. The BBC and Stonewall repeatedly refused attempts to engage, sending instead statements that failed to address what was being asked. The stymying of information requested via FOIs was shocking. I mean, if all is tickety-boo - why the need to hide and prevent release of data? I would strongly urge people to listen to the podcast and make up their own minds.
