Following on from the ' have you met abs infamous criminal' thread. Has anyone met a celebrity (bonus points for really famous) and were they nice?

OP posts:

I always imagined Cat Deeley to be so lovely @2me2u2u2me Confused

Has anyone met any of the other Spice Girls?

2me2u2u2me · 14/10/2021 12:33

@KateNicole - nah, she's a right prima donna! I was surprised too, especially after working with Matthew Kelly first, he was lovely.

I've met Mel B, Scary Spice, she did a programme for us so I spent a lot of time with her, I thought she'd be a bit off but she was very lovely

2me2u2u2me · 14/10/2021 12:37

@TattySlippers I remember when I worked at LWT, Cilla Black used to insist on a chauffer driven car from the studios to the pub for her lunch some days, it was literally across the road from the studio, less than a two minute walk !

TheChosenTwo · 14/10/2021 12:42

Lord (? Is he a lord?) Seb Coe frequents mine and dh’s local pub.
We’ve had a few chats in the (tiny) bar, he’s very personable and friendly.

Oh, and met Lewis Hamilton in a different bar, he’s absolutely minuscule Grin I don’t know why, I just wasn’t expecting it! He was sat at the table behind us and I was coming back from the toilet when he was just going, I just stared at him in disbelief!
Didn’t talk to him though so I don’t know anything else other than that he was so much smaller than i anticipated. He’s probably not even that short really…

@CornishGem1975 describing James Martin as a big old bloater has made my day Grin
Guess that’s what cooking one simple meal with 3 packets of butter does to you!

AdmiralCain · 14/10/2021 12:51

Charles Dance, first hand experience, utterly utterly delightful, wonderful, sagely warm, refined and generous with his time and imparting knowledge and being encouraging.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/10/2021 12:51

I know Justin Long. He's a total space cadet.

Firesidefox · 14/10/2021 12:52

Yes, lots. Nicest was Cat Deeley, worst was Chris Tarrant who was up himself and almost aggressive in his attitude.

Sophie Ellis Bextor and Kylie were also lovely.

NoCauseRebel · 14/10/2021 13:00

Gary Barlow. Knobber at the time but seems to have grown up now! no I can confirm he still is a knob.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/10/2021 13:10

Charlie Stayt from BBC Breakfast offered to help with my buggy getting off the H37 bus, so based on that 15 second encounter I'd say he was a good egg.

clarkkentsglasses · 14/10/2021 13:11

Hugh Grant - utter rude bastard

Dec Donnelly - utterly delightful

Standstheclockattentothree · 14/10/2021 13:13

@Nordstrom

Quite a few (did a lot of tv/film extra work).

But I can confirm that the the genuinely loveliest most humble celebrity I have ever met is Simon Reeve.

Oh good to hear that. I love Simon Reeve and he's led the most astonishing life.
Movinghouseatlast · 14/10/2021 13:24

David Walliams I have met socially quite a few times. He is absolutely awful. If you aren't famous he totally blanks you, even if you are at a dinner party with him!

Gordon Ramsay on the other hand is really lovely, a right laugh and very friendly to anyone and everyone.

petridishmystery · 14/10/2021 13:28

I’ve never met a celeb but I always find these threads interesting, especially when the same celeb gets described in totally different ways within the same thread! Guess everyone can have off days.

OompaLumpaLabrador · 14/10/2021 13:32

Movinghouseatlast I sat next to Walliams in a restaurant last month and he seemed a bit smug. He was oddly keen in my husband who had no idea who he was, as they share similar views on razor clams.

Many years ago, my lovely but mad father in law spent much of a four course dinner explaining gravitational wave theory and Wagner to David Beckham. He apparently ventured ‘you should speak to my girlfriend, she’s into music too’, before going back to listening.

Gordon Ramsay is definitely the epitome of what you see is what you get. Friendly and chatty, but calls a spade a spade.
Bunglemom · 14/10/2021 13:42

Paula Radcliffe was on a flight of mine (Ex Cabin Crew) with her husband/manager just after she had broken her leg... absolutely vile! He gave us a list of do's and dont's, one of them was to only talk to him not to address Paula, if she needed the toilet it was to be cleaned first with no one waiting behind her, no photos etc!

Lamar off Pop Idol (I think) was a rude and arrogant twat... uttering the words 'do you know who i am?!' my reply was quite curt and said yes but that tea is still £3.50 😂

Nicest were a few politicians surprisingly!

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 14/10/2021 13:53

Francesca Simon -really lovely. Seemed genuinely interested in the dc.
Julia Donaldson- ditto. Just as well as they were both 3 hour+ queues to meet them.
Sophie Kinsella -likewise.
Justin Fletcher - nice but he seemed less interested than the above authors. Although my friend has worked with him tons and she said he's one of the best. Apparently a lot of children's TV presenters are pervs.
Corky Paul (prob not that famous)- really funny and engaging. Spent ages talking to the dc.
Paul Nichols (him from Eastenders of old) I can't remember what he was like, I was so awe struck. And was about 13. I was in love Grin

Ummm... various 'old' singers/performers. Only ones I can think of areDavid Essex countless times. He's seriously lovely. Always made time to speak to fans at the stage door. Complimented my "frock" once. (We always called them dresses so that really stuck in my mind). And Timmy Mallet. He was funny.

chasingmytail4 · 14/10/2021 13:58

I spent a morning with Trinny Woodall. I found her really warm, welcoming and she seemed genuinely interested in me.

Spidey66 · 14/10/2021 14:04

@Spidey66

Neil Morrissey is a friend of a friend and drinks in my local. First time we met was on the mutual friends bday. I said to NM "Has anyone told you you look like Neil Morrissey?" He laughed and said "No, he looks like me!"

Ive met him a few times now. He's just as you imagine, down to earth and charming.

I've also met Perry Fenwick a few times. He lives locally to me and I've seen him in shops and pubs. He seems like a nice guy.

I'm so glad to hear that. She's about the only 'celeb' I really follow or watch on Instagram and I find her really genuine.
