CFery to end all CFery

I have posted on here before about my CFery neighbours, and all have agreed with me, but today takes the Biscuit. The side of their conservatory overlooks our garden and they have small windows in it, high up. They have moaned about our plants (rose and buddliea) tapping the windows and we have kept them trimmed back. The woman now TOTALLY ignores us, she's a bit weird tbh, but if we meet she blanks us, fine by me. However she has become very friendly with a neighbour across the street whom we talk to occasionally. Let's call her Carol. Carol knocked on our door and said 'I see you have a rose in your garden. Could I have the rose hips to make jam?' We thought it a little odd but agreed and left the gate open for her as we were both WFH. Heard her gathering the hips and my DH glanced out of the window to see Carols partner crossing the road back to their house with a long piece of rose bush in his hand. Carol then rings the bell and shows me the rose hips, telling me what she would do with them. DH then tells me about the partner and the bit of rose bush. We go out the check and can see where he's cut a branch off, the one that would be tapping against the neighbours conservatory window! The CF neighbour got them to come around under some spurious pretext and cut branches off our bloody rose bush!!! I am so pissed off I won't be able to sleep tonight. Any suggestions as to what I can do? Lighthearted (or not)

Keep your plants trimmed back from the boundary?

TwinklyBranch · 11/10/2021 21:34

Well, if you're not going to be sleeping anyway, you might as well sit out in your garden all night, tapping the end of a broom handle (or similar) against your neighbour's window at random intervals. It would serve the cheeky fuckers right.

Budapestdreams · 11/10/2021 21:35

You can either confront Carol's husband and/or report him to the police for theft or you can ignore it and move on with your life.

Blooming cheeky though, and devious!

Shefliesonherownwings · 11/10/2021 21:37

Are you 100% sure that’s what happened? I mean, your CF neighbours actually put the other neighbours up to it and they didn’t just cut that branch randomly?

Yes do it Grin

They built their (brick) conservatory right up to the boundary(I.e the foundations are on our land) before we moved in. And you can't put windows in overlooking our garden then request we keep our plants short!

Start playing Wuthering Heights at full blast at the stroke of midnight and tap the window at the bit where Kate wails "let me in at your window-oh-oh-oh"... with a baseball bat.

It was the only bit cut off, they didn't need to cut anything off to gather the hips. It was a length about 3ft.

A tad extreme, I might ask them how they knew we had rose hips next time we speak as the only way they would know is by the neighbours telling them, it's in the back garden. I think I might have to find a way to let them know we know what they've done without actually accusing them. They are an oldish couple and I really think they've been used by the CF neighbours.

Tell her you can't wait to try some of the jam. If she was making it up she's going to have to hastily learn how to make rose hip jam.

It does sound a bit far fetched that the neighbours conspired together to get into your garden to cut one branch off.

Is the rose very large? I think if it's causing that much of a problem that neighbours are making up jam making stories to get to your rose plant then it really would be easier to prune it back yourself. It is a generally a good idea to prune roses right back once they've finished flowering.

How about a rather loud water feature on the patio? All that trickling water noise will have them up going to the toilet 3 times a night. 😂

We've already completely removed the buddleai because they kept moaning (when they were talking to us) I'm buggered if I'm cutting back the rose too, it's not that large, just (in their opinion) in the wrong place.

She didn't gather enough to make jam, a very small bowl full. I shall keep asking her for some though.

I share your annoyance @stillcrazyafterall. Our delightful neighbours waited until we went out then cut the lead branches off our cherry tree. Totally spoilt the canopy and stunted it’s growth. The tree is about 10 feet from the boundary 🤷‍♀️ so flummoxed as to why they did this. Did not have direct evidence so unable to confront but cameras and a lock was put on our side gate pdq.

Ohshittt · 11/10/2021 21:52

Well for a start you need to ask her to try some of the lovely jam she has made with your rosehips 😆

Thank you for your suggestions, they have made me laugh, and brought my blood pressure back down. I won't consider wind chimes as they drive me spare, but definitely getting a broom handle... 😂

Go round to Carols and ask for a snip of lavender / mint/parsley, then randomly cut a few flowers as well. Make sure you display these flowers in full view in your front window.
I’m loving the posts on this thread.
