What can I eat LOADS of?

I've been on antidepressants about three months and on the whole they're brilliant but I NEVER feel full. I absolutely love food anyway and I find it hard to concentrate when I'm hungry. I'm not really worried about gaining weight as my diet is pretty healthy but as am vegan everything I eat is veggies so constantly over eating is giving me tummy gyp!

Any idea what I can mindlessly scoff that is easy on the tum? To reiterate, it doesn't actually need to be a "filling" food because no matter how much I eat I'm not full.

Oats/porridge? They are meant to be soothing re digestion?

Ozanj · 11/10/2021 20:55

For me, tofu. I can also eat my weight in summer rolls (the kind made from rice paper)

santabetterwashhishands · 11/10/2021 20:57

Plain popcorn

Popcorn or rice cakes

Kale crisps. Bloody yummy, and kale is in season just now, so sustainable and cheap.

Remove the tough stalks, tiniest wee spray of oil, a dusting of paprika or cayenne depending on your preference, in a hot oven for about seven minutes (don't turn your back on them, they cook very quickly!).

I managed to get fat on antidepressants eating dry cornflakes, paxo stuffing mix and tinned food straight from the can. literally anything I could get my hands on! I tried to be healthy but at 3am would be making pancakes from flour and water if there was nothing else. I felt insatiably hungry the whole time. Doctor said the side effect would wear off after a while, but it didn't. I doubled my body weight on antidepressants and just could never get satisfied. And I was still depressed. Mostly about my weight and health conditions I was accumulating. I had to come off the medication in the end. It was called Mirtazapine

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 11/10/2021 21:06

My best ones were frozen grapes and sugar free jellies for an evening munch. Or just a massive plate of veggie sticks

HangingOver · 11/10/2021 21:08

Oh god I'm was on Mirtazapine for about three days and you're right it was ridiculous. I would eat til I threw up! This is citalopram... weirdly I never had this symptom on it before. No where near as extreme as on Mirtazapine thank god!!

Dust!

Strawberries seemed to be basically free in terms of carbs and still really nice and filling. Sadly not in season :(

samthebordercollie · 11/10/2021 21:15

Broccoli

TaraR2020 · 11/10/2021 21:15

Sounds like - and I might also be making a big assumption here - that you're not getting enough fats in your meals to sate your appetite. If you weren't vegan, I'd suggest cheese...

Up your vegan fats in your meals and snacks :)

Suzi888 · 11/10/2021 21:17

Cucumber, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes…?

Dizzywizz · 11/10/2021 21:17

Frozen fruit is cheap - I love blueberries, strawberries also freezing grapes

WinterCarlisle · 11/10/2021 21:19

Rice cakes
Sweet potato wedges baked with sumac and harissa
Twiglets (are they vegan? I think they are)
Tortilla wraps cut into large triangles then baked with herbs and / or spices and dipped in hummus / other dips.

Hungry now. Grin

Tomatalillo · 11/10/2021 21:19

Carrots - crunch is good 😀

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 11/10/2021 21:19

On mirtazapine I remember sitting with a whole loaf of bread and a jar of jam watching TV and I ate the whole loaf and most of the jam. Then I ate about 5 bowls of cornflakes with fruit and milk. It was crazy. Another day I made a slimming world recipe of curry loaf which has about 7 eggs in as one of the ingredients and I ate the whole thing in a sitting.

What about some watermelon chunks? If you get a whole melon you can just cut more off if you want it.

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 11/10/2021 21:21

Roasted chick peas or roasted soy beans
Soy beans in pods are good as you can pop them out so it takes longer, same with Eating monkey nuts or nuts with a nut cracker, peas in pods, pistachios in shells etc.

SpeckledyHen · 11/10/2021 21:23

Kefir and frozen blueberries 🫐 . Delicious .

SpeckledyHen · 11/10/2021 21:25

Forget that, forgot vegan.

FourteenthDoctor · 11/10/2021 21:33

Crumpets!

I believe that drug is actually used as an appetite stimulator in patients needing to gain weight, so it's no wonder it had that affect on you.
