What can I eat LOADS of?

I've been on antidepressants about three months and on the whole they're brilliant but I NEVER feel full. I absolutely love food anyway and I find it hard to concentrate when I'm hungry. I'm not really worried about gaining weight as my diet is pretty healthy but as am vegan everything I eat is veggies so constantly over eating is giving me tummy gyp!

Any idea what I can mindlessly scoff that is easy on the tum? To reiterate, it doesn't actually need to be a "filling" food because no matter how much I eat I'm not full.

you're not getting enough fats in your meals to sate your appetite

It's not that....my diet hasn't changed, it's the drugs. I can eat until I hit but I don't get full. Watermelon is a great idea! That can't have too much fibre in it can it??

Sugar free jelly (I prefer to make up my own from the sachets as I like to make it stronger than the pre-prepared stuff)
Low sugar angel delight

Sometimes I make a ‘trifle’ with sugar free jelly and low sugar ready made custard (sometimes I use trifle fingers in the jelly too) and it’s delicious!

Big salads with crunchy things like red cabbage and carrots? Ryvita and peanut butter? Blueberries, seaweed crisps, plain nuts.

Would it help to drink more water or sugar free squash? Apparently a lot of the time that we think we are hungry we might actually be thirsty instead.

I don’t understand how “eating until you hurt” doesn’t equate with feeling full? Same difference to me. I can eat till I’m full, but if I go past that and overeat (on Christmas Day for example!) then i start to feel horribly overfull, bloated, sore and a bit sick.

Oh god I'm was on Mirtazapine for about three days and you're right it was ridiculous. I would eat til I threw up! This is citalopram... weirdly I never had this symptom on it before. No where near as extreme as on Mirtazapine thank god!!
I also felt really hungry on citalopram. It led to a lot if weight gain. In conjunction with a few other issues.

You should be seriously investigating whether your vegan diet is giving you the nutrients you need. Depression is closely linked to nutrition.
Lack of oily fish for example .

Apparently pineapple is good at making you feel full : so you could get fresh or tinned pineapple. It's something to do with the fact that because of enzymes in It, your body is slower to break it down thus meaning it sits there on top of your other food as it were making you feel fuller.
I have been told this by a few gastroenterologists and a dietician as I have bowel disease, and over the years I've had many discussions of what foods to try / cut out etc etc pineapple came up because it's not good if you're losing weight due to something like bowel disease as it makes you feel fuller for longer so eat less overall.

That was long. Sorry!

Protein is usually the best thing to help stave off hunger but that's a tricky one when you're vegan!

You can get vegan protein powder, maybe try using it to make things like shakes, protein puddings and even pancakes?

deeni · 12/10/2021 06:48

Cucumber, lettuce and carrots for me.

Lol I knew there'd be one. I'm not depressed, I take them for my OCD which I've had since childhood. I've been vegan almost three years with no issues. I have only been ravenous since taking the drugs. And I take algae oil capsules. It isn't normal hunger.

Stomach hurts but brain says keep eating. Sad

Can't believe popcorn has been suggested. Sources of protein and fats are good for staving off hunger. Or do something to distract you rather than eating if it's down to the meds alone.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/10/2021 08:56

Distraction: Crochet or knitting. Got your fingers tied up in wool...eat less.

I find carrots quite good as there is a lot more chewing than with soft fruit.

Celery would also take a while. I find you can chew on the stringy bits for ages a bit like vegetable chewing gum.

Would a chew toy for sen children help?
