My cat just got run over

Not expecting anyone to be up but I need to tell someone because I'm all out of sorts and everyone is asleep.

My cat has just been hit by a car on the road outside😭

The one positive is the lady that hit her made so much commotion while ringing someone my dogs heard, started barking and I looked out the window and there she was - at least I picked her up when warm and she was not run over more.

I'm now in bed with a coffee wondering how that all happened so fast.

Oh gosh I am so sorry this happened. Is your cat OK?

I wrapped her up in some towels and put her in her cat house until the morning.

The cat was a she, she was called Madeleine.

I can't even remember how old she is, my brain can't think straight☹

Oh I lost a cat in a similar way, but it was a hit and run. Very late at night. I wrapped him up in towels because I didn’t know what else to do. It’s just awful isn’t it? I’m so sorry.

I'm quite proud of myself for dealing with her, in the past my husband did, we're divorced now so I have to do it.
I think it was the adrenalin rush that helped.
Not sure what I will do in the morning with her but I will get someone to dig a hole.

The poor taxi driver was so distraught

Well done on handling the situation so well and so quickly. Give yourself some time to process what happened and make sure you get some support in the morning when no doubt things will feel different. We lost one of our cats in a similar fashion a decade ago and it's still such a sad and upsetting memory. Sending best wishes x

I live on a busy road and so this has happened a few times over the years.
When my last cat died (2 yrs ago) I vowed not to get another cat because its inevitable what happens.

I never thought Madeleine would be hit, I never knew she crossed the road.

I think she was at least 12yrs old (I can't believe I can't remember right now) if she has always crossed the road then its only luck that this hasn't happened before.

Do you have kids? Sugar coat it s bit. Don't lie about what happened but. Gentle. I mean obv you know that.

Bury in garden and have a proper goodbye. I'd mark the grave with something that will last. If she had favourite spot eg sunny corner, near as poss to that.

@NiceGerbil My kids are adults, DD has just gone to Uni, I hate bad news when they're so far away☹

She has had a good life, I always thought she'd die of natural causes, this is just so brutal and she was such a timid cat😭
