Bra washing

Toffeewhirl · 07/10/2021 21:59

My mum is horrified to discover that I don't wear a new, washed bra every day. I'm equally appalled that she thinks that's normal. She wears a clean bra every day. I think that's bonkers.

Thoughts?

I used to only wear once but now wear it several times before washing

Timeisavirtue · 07/10/2021 22:13

Wear it several time before washing unless in the summer when it’s super hot and I’ve been sweating loads then I will... I don’t know anyone that changes thier bra daily.....

DespairingHomeowner · 07/10/2021 22:18

Bra manufacturers say 3-4 wears before washing and I think I that’s about right (except if v sweaty)

Thanks all. After her initial shock at other people's 'slovenly' habits, Mum is now considering relaxing her bra washing routine!

My mum wears matching newly washed bra and pants every single day! No big up to the belly button pants for her. It astounds me.

Danikm151 · 07/10/2021 22:39

2-3 days then wash

DazzleDrops · 07/10/2021 22:44

I wear once then wash my bras. I never used to until I read on here about sweat and bacteria on the band - and I started washing after each wear.

Luckyelephant1 · 07/10/2021 22:58

I'm only washing daily at the moment due to breastfeeding, as I've not found breast pads that actually stay in place yet so I inevitably get milk all over the bra. Prior to that I'd wear bras 3 to 4 times before washing.

StarlightLady · 08/10/2021 05:51

Clean bra every day for me.

I wouldn’t want to put the same one on the next day. The band sits under your arm after all. It’s probably an upbringing thing, but I’m early 40s now, so I’m unlikely to change. Mum always said clean bra and knickers every day.

I always buy 2 pairs of matching knickers when l buy a new bra. I don’t always match, although l aspire to, but at the very least wear bra and knix that go together.

It doesn’t add to the wash load or use more detergent. A few extra bras in the machine, in a lingerie/delicates bag make no difference.

But evidently, from another thread on MN l’m officially weird anyway, l always get dressed bra first 😂.

Bagelsandbrie · 08/10/2021 07:04

Clean one every day here. But then I’m very sweaty and menopausal Grin

moanyhole · 08/10/2021 07:07

Clean one everyday. I just prefer it as it sits against your skin and under arms all day. If I change my tops everyday then it makes sense to me to change my bra too. Having said that 2 to 3 wears is probably fine! I hand-wash my bras so they do last a while anyway

RampantIvy · 08/10/2021 07:11

My bras aren't that near my armpits. Some of you must wear bras with very wide bands.

Mone don't get sweaty unless it is very hot so they get worn 3 or 4 times before getting thrown in the washing machine.

StarlightLady · 08/10/2021 07:46

@RampantIvy - in my book within a few centimetres of your armpit is near your pit.

@moanyhole - Exactly! I wear a clean top everyday, hence clean bra underneath.

Theoldwoman · 08/10/2021 07:53

I’m with your mum.

It’s an item of underwear, so clean every day.

Sunshineandflipflops · 08/10/2021 07:55

Every day in the warm weather, every couple of days at other times. I only own black undies though so they always match anyway!

RampantIvy · 08/10/2021 08:05

It’s an item of underwear, so clean every day.

But it is nothing like the same as pants.

I have small boobs, and just don't sweat anywhere near my bra unless it is really hot weather. Even after 2 or 3 days wear they still smell clean and fresh.

Clean one everyday (that I wear one)

I really sweat at work so no will not be re-using

My wired for push up potential weekend bras I will rewear

singlemama91 · 08/10/2021 08:30

I think it depends how big your boobs are. I wash mine everyday as its underwear but I get what PPs are saying if you have smaller boobs you can probably get away with washing less! Less boob sweat!

nordica · 08/10/2021 08:38

I don't own enough bras to wash them so often. And only do two wash loads of clothes a week usually as I live alone, so would have to be constantly handwashing them if I wanted to change daily.

My mum has always worn hers multiple times too. We both have a smaller band and larger cup size so can't just easily buy lots of cheaper bras either.

purpleme12 · 08/10/2021 08:45

No I don't wash it every day.
But I hand wash mine.
I'm betting she washes them in the washing machine so it's so much easier to stick them in and they're done!

1990s · 08/10/2021 09:06

@julesse

Can't believe I'm admitting this but I probably wear my bras for about a month before washing. They never smell. I've got small boobs and don't sweat so don't think about washing them. Is this revolting? Also, I wear tops 3-4 times before washing (unless soiled or sweating in summer), I wear jeans about 10 times too. I change underwear and socks daily. Pjs every 3rd day. I think I might be disgusting.
I think you’re probably sensible. I think if things aren’t sweaty we should be washing them a lot less.

Unfortunately I’m pretty sweaty!

Howshouldibehave · 08/10/2021 09:15

Clean bra, socks and knickers every morning-I think under your boobs, your feet and between your legs get pretty sweaty so I’d rather wash clothes that are touching there! I wear jeans and tops more times before washing them, though.

StarlightLady · 08/10/2021 09:15

Am l the only one here who wears different styles and or colours with different tops and dresses? I certainly wouldn’t want to pop a worn one back in the drawer. I suppose l could hang it from the lampshade but someone might get the wrong idea!

I’m allegedly an evil MNetter who commits fashion crimes anyway, with some tops my bra straps show.
