Bra washing

Toffeewhirl · 07/10/2021 21:59

My mum is horrified to discover that I don't wear a new, washed bra every day. I'm equally appalled that she thinks that's normal. She wears a clean bra every day. I think that's bonkers.

Thoughts?

@StarlightLady

Am l the only one here who wears different styles and or colours with different tops and dresses? I certainly wouldn’t want to pop a worn one back in the drawer. I suppose l could hang it from the lampshade but someone might get the wrong idea!

I’m allegedly an evil MNetter who commits fashion crimes anyway, with some tops my bra straps show.

No, you’re not alone-I wear different colours and styles with different tops. I wash them all once they’ve been worn.

Horrified? Appalled? Bonkers? Such dramatic words to use in a small paragraph about bra washing. Confused
For what it’s worth I might wear the same bra for 2 or maybe even 3 days running or I might chuck it in the wash after one day. My mum wouldn’t care either way and I wouldn’t know or care about how often she washes her either.

Clean bra, socks and knickers every morning-I think under your boobs, your feet and between your legs get pretty sweaty so I’d rather wash clothes that are touching there! I wear jeans and tops more times before washing them, though.
Niot everyone has sweaty boobs though.

They were the appropriate words to describe our feelings, but we had been drinking champagne to celebrate meeting up, so were possibly a little emotional.

I wear mine a day and a bit...so I run and swim, and thus often wear a sports bra or cossie for a chunk of the day. If I wore my regular bra from 6am till midnight (hah! Unlikely atm but say I was out out) then it would be in the wash.

I hand-wash them too but they cost £££ (weird size), so that's why.

GoodnightGrandma · 08/10/2021 10:54

I change my bra every day, it gets very sweaty under boobs !

Toffeewhirl · 08/10/2021 14:39

Interesting to read all the different responses on here. Mum and I have concluded that we are probably both too extreme (in opposite directions).

Time to treat myself to a new bra Smile.

@Toffeewhirl Do you normally hand wash yours out of interest? I am not sure how people have the time for that but wondered if many people actually do

Bobsyer · 08/10/2021 17:35

I change mine once it can walk to the washing machine on its own.

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 08/10/2021 18:08

Sports bra washed after every gym session/run/walk

Normal bras after 2/3 wears

yoshiblue · 08/10/2021 18:42

Tend to wear my bras 3/4 times before a wash. I've just changed out all mine, so have two white and two black.

Sports bras once per week - after 2/3 sessions

emmathedilemma · 08/10/2021 18:50

Usually 2 days, mine aren't really near my armpits and I don't have big boobs so they don't tend to sweat. I wear a sports bra for anything that's likely to bring a sweat on.

I smell mine to check if it needs washing. Usually I wear them about two weeks before washing.

TreeSmuggler · 09/10/2021 12:55

Oh dear your mum would have had to drink the whole bottle if she heard what I do. Normal bra - 2 weeks. Sports bra - 3-4 wears.

MrsPsmalls · 09/10/2021 13:20

Two weeks? A month? Yuck! Is there any other item of clothing you would leave so long before washing? Everyday here unless I forget for some reason. I have four that go in the washing machine for every day use and about four others for fancy occasions that should (ideally) be hand washed

She certainly would! 😄

Eight bras! That's a lot. I'm put off buying so many by the cost - £20 up for a decent bra.

I wear mine for 2-3 days before washing, not always consecutive days though. I’ve read it’s better for the elastic to give them rest days in between.

Macaroni46 · 09/10/2021 18:07

3 to 4 days here but I don't sweat much. And shock horror! I do put worn bras back in the drawer.
I own about 15 bras which makes me happy 🤗

StarlightLady · 09/10/2021 18:08

OP, but if you have a lot of bras, there is less wear for each one. I have around 14. I like to vary the colours and need different styles.

yellowgingham · 09/10/2021 18:09

Around 3 wear here, except sports bras.
