How can I make money I'm desperate?

throwitaway9 · 06/10/2021 16:18

Due to reasons out of my control, I am in a really tough financial spot. I have a two year old DS who stays at his dad's for a night or two per week. I am a full time student.

I am desperate to make money, but I don't know how. I did a waxing course but got no interest. I've thought about baking cupcakes and biscuits but not sure how well that would do. What do would think about organic, homemade dog treats?

Does anyone have any "side hustle" ideas or other ways similar to the above? I have even applied to a few gentlemen's clubs to be a dancer but I can't bring myself to do it.

I'm sick of always being stressed about money and not being able to give DS everything I feel he deserves.

Sainsbury's late night shelf stacking etc pays quite well, and as it's at night wouldn't be affected by your unpredictable schedule.

PaulGallico · 07/10/2021 06:25

You mention a 'medical degree' - but don't say exactly what it is - maybe nursing? I think you need to be more focused and realistic- you seem to need more than a side-hussle. I would suggest either deferring and getting a job (maybe too late and you will lose the maintenance loan). Therefore you need a part time job - bar work, care work..and please do not blame the university - it is not their job to provide you with extra funds - hardship fund or not.

I'd be pretty careful about Botox personally as surely practitioners should take out indemnity insurance and that costs a fortune. Maybe not - but you can do some damage injecting someone's face.

Cleaning houses - there’s always busy people wanting cleaners, and your hours would be flexible. My mum did it for a while when I was tiny and she was skint.

Haven't read all the response so I don't know if anyone's already suggested this, but I do freelance writing work. You can easily make £15 per hour at the lower end and many times more than that once you build a reputation. You don't even necessarily need to be a brilliant writer as long as you have a good grasp of grammar and basic research skills.

Goawayangryman · 07/10/2021 09:40

@Rasputina could you let me know (either here or PM) what kind of writing work you do, and where you find your clients? I could also do with making a bit on the side.

How do you find your clients? Do you use an online platform?

No, I am blaming the university because they have directly caused my financial issues. If it weren't for their incompetence, I wouldn't be in this position. Have have made a number of formal complaints, and they agree that they have made several mistakes.

Not at any point did I insinuate it's their responsibility to provide me with grants or anything of the sort.

@Cherryana

My friend went on a three day Botox course. It was a £3000 outlay but now she makes at least £100 profit on everyone she pokes.

There was an initial outlay of £3000 but she had made her money back and was in profit by two weeks after her course.

I have looked into this, I just can't afford the initial payment. I am definitely interested in the aesthetics industry once I've finished my degree.

If you have points in the day, could you do dog walking? People charge £10-£15 an hour

blossomkil · 07/10/2021 10:46

Have you looked at cambly? It's a website where you can be paid to teach English or chat in English for students to practice. Pay isn't great but it's something. There's lots of info on YouTube.

Not many people can just give up work yo do a uni course when they have dependents.

No, but I am lucky enough that the course I'm doing means I am entitled to a large bursary from the NHS but I have been unable to access that this semester due to a cock up with student finance.

Contact your MP. This shouldn't happen

I don't know what my MP can do? I first complained on the 2nd of September and have formally complained twice since then and have only received a response on Monday. The response on Monday was basically "sorry this is happening, I'm going to refer it to x and he will be in touch."

Any chance you could
Pm me with some details regarding Adsense if possible?

I've looked into this before.

Thank you

Babyiskickingmyribs · 07/10/2021 11:38

Have a look at amazon Mechanical Turk. It’s a lot of surveys but also data processing tasks. It’s all online remote stuff so you could do some whenever fits your schedule and it’s handled via Amazon so it might not pay well but you shouldn’t get scammed.

MCMelon · 07/10/2021 11:39

Are you doing a healthcare degree? If so are you accessing all funding due to this? Student loan, NHS bursary, NHS childcare grant?

My husband does match betting as a side hustle and reliably brings in over 1K a month extra with this.

I am entitled to all of those and received them last year, but my student finance has been cocked up so I'm currently receiving nothing.

What sites does he use for that? How much time does he spend doing it?

Thank you for your response

I use Profit Accumulator and make at least a 1000 each month @Throwitaway9

Like anything ithe more time you put j , the more that can be made but it takes seconds now to place each bet

DynastyBarry · 07/10/2021 11:52

Profit Accumulator sorry forgot the link :)

Babyiskickingmyribs · 07/10/2021 11:54

This is worth reading if you want to try out Mechanical Turk. It seems like it pays to choose tasks carefully. www.google.fr/amp/s/thehustle.co/making-money-on-amazon-mechanical-turk/

Seesawmummadaw · 07/10/2021 12:04

Surely student finance has fucked up rather than the university?

Don’t do dancing if you are wanting to become a nurse or similar. It will come back and bite you on the bum.

You said that the nhs trust near you is not currently advertising for bank staff? Have you looked at agency’s for support staff?

applechips · 07/10/2021 12:12

OP why are you ignoring all of us that are suggesting join your trusts staff bank ?

Forget messing about with “side hustles” and matched betting, etc and get yourself on the bank- you will be working by the end of the month. Guaranteed reliable work.

I'm not. I have replied about bank work and said my local trust doesn't have any HCA jobs going.
