How can I make money I'm desperate?

throwitaway9 · 06/10/2021 16:18

Due to reasons out of my control, I am in a really tough financial spot. I have a two year old DS who stays at his dad's for a night or two per week. I am a full time student.

I am desperate to make money, but I don't know how. I did a waxing course but got no interest. I've thought about baking cupcakes and biscuits but not sure how well that would do. What do would think about organic, homemade dog treats?

Does anyone have any "side hustle" ideas or other ways similar to the above? I have even applied to a few gentlemen's clubs to be a dancer but I can't bring myself to do it.

I'm sick of always being stressed about money and not being able to give DS everything I feel he deserves.

How about find a nice new man and upgrade him while you are at it. Only the successful that can take care of the bills while you focus on your studies and your son and him need apply? It will generate a lot more than surveys at £10 per 1,000 or whatever. I am only semi-joking.

If you like dogs - dog walking. My friend charges £15 an hour and has to turn work down. Cash in hand too.

Mynameismargot · 06/10/2021 18:21

I make a few hundred a month through adsense. It does take a while to take off though but I haven't looked at my website in about 3 years now and it still makes me money, I just pay about 20quid a year for the domain. I don't know how realistic an option it is though.

SnowyQueen · 06/10/2021 18:23

How many contact hours a week do you have at university? Couldn’t you work part-time in the hospitality sector?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/10/2021 18:27

When I was a student I used to work overnights (8-8) as agency in psychogeriatric homes. It paid really well, and I could study, and then nap around my lectures.

Obviously this depends whether your DC's father or someone else can have your DC overnight a couple of times a week.

Have a look at "indeed flex" - it's an app, you apply to go on the books like any temping agency and it offers shifts at all times of day and night (usually things like shelf stacking at supermarkets etc) you can choose whether to take them or not so it gives you flexibility.

Matched betting!

Slayduggee · 06/10/2021 18:32

Speak to your university. They should have a hardship fund. My friend did this and she was given £900.

skodadoda · 06/10/2021 18:36

Do you have a subject in which you could offer tutoring?

Sorry, I see someone else has suggested this 😢
fairgame84 · 06/10/2021 18:47

Matched betting. I made £1500 in a year.

toocold54 · 06/10/2021 19:23

I would say cleaning is your best bet.

Have you applied for the council tax discount? I don’t think you pay any council taxes if you’re a student it may have changed now.

I also studied as a sinkhole parent and found it difficult so I joined a cleaving agency and they would text me when jobs became available and I would say yes or no. It was usually to cover holidays or sickness.

Worst comes to worst you could speak to uni about deferring for a year and going back to work so you have some savings ready for next year.

Second match betting and low risk casino. I only spend an hour or two a day max and my income is approx 400+ euro a month. MB is more stable but requires concentration and time, it's extremely lucrative though, can be done in your own time and is tax free. I use Team Profit and Team Casino. Been doing this 2.5 years now.

BergamotandLime · 06/10/2021 19:35

Join your local hospital's bank and do auxiliary work. You pick the shifts, you could do 12hr shifts the two days your son is away.

throwitaway9 · 06/10/2021 19:43

@pisspants

You should take a look on the money section here, there is an ongoing thread called make £10 a day which has a new thread each month. I was in a tight spot a couple of years ago and through there found several side hustles that helped me a lot. I now only do low risk casino using Team Casino which I make about £200 to 300 a month from but it is not for everyone.
How do you do this please?

Thank you so much everyone.

I do claim UC but it really isn't enough to live on as I'm sure you know. My two local hospitals aren't looking for any bank HCAs currently.

I'm going to look into some of these suggestions.

Watch an online tutorial for matched betting. It can take a little while to get the hang of it. Sign up as a new customer on bookie sites for free bets for new customers

FindingMeno · 06/10/2021 19:49

I think cleaning.
If you're good, word of mouth will soon see you picking up extra.

TillyDevon · 06/10/2021 19:51

Do you like animals as we are often looking for an informal pet sitter who looks after small animals (with no cat/ dog). This could provide extra income in half terms/ holidays as usually can fit in with other (changing) time commitments.

thesandwich · 06/10/2021 19:56

Contact local care homes/ agencies

HappyHedgehog247 · 06/10/2021 19:58

Cleaning? Lots of people will be happy with flexibility as long as you can come each week. Can do in 2 hour chunks. Not much outlay. Just put yourself on Gumtree/Facebook marketplace

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 06/10/2021 19:58

"My two local hospitals aren't looking for any bank HCAs currently."

Ring them and ask when they are next recruiting, it's usually every 6 months as least. They are always short of HCAs (cos it's a hard job for not much pay!). But usually on the bank the hourly rate is good.

applechips · 06/10/2021 20:03

If you are doing a medical degree then you can join the bank of the trust you are doing your placements with- call them tomorrow to
get the ball rolling and I bet you could have shifts booked in for half term!

Kuachui · 06/10/2021 20:06

Hermes desperate. Happy to be as flexible as you need. Depends on where you live obviously. Many care jobs happy to be flexible.
