Off to fancy dress party tomorrow as a generic 80s pop star modelled on Madonna lots of lace / denim and big silver jewellery.

What nail varnish would finish it off - I'm thinking maybe dark purple / dark red or maybe a bright red??

Frosted or pearlised definitely.

PinniGig · 01/10/2021 21:24

I'd say you can put absolutely any colour varnish on to be honest but just choose two different colours to paint alternate nails. I'm thinking of your getup as being similar to "Virgin Tour" Madonna in which case you can knock yourself out and go as big or little as you like.

Enjoy! :)

Good job I checked seems the dark colours not great - definitely got a pearly pink / blue one I'll go for that.

Thanks for the video @PinniGig very helpful for hair and makeup!

I have a very clear memory of being in school listening to Just Cant Get Enough by Depeche Mode while my friends passed round a bottle of pearlised nail varnish that we all put on.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/10/2021 22:17

Neon!

doodlejump1980 · 01/10/2021 22:19

I remember every nail being a different colour!

MercyBooth · 01/10/2021 22:19

Was trendy to match your lips with your nails in the 80s. Red usually.

LadyofMisrule · 01/10/2021 22:20

Burgundy
Pearlised pink
Black
Blue

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 01/10/2021 22:20

Frosted

AndSoFinally · 01/10/2021 22:42

Don't paint them, colour them in with neon highlighter pens! All the rage in the 80s!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 01/10/2021 22:45

Neon green was the height of sophistication (or so I believed)

Rummikub · 01/10/2021 22:57

Iced champ pink

minipie · 01/10/2021 23:00

Really dark colours was early 90s. Rouge Noir like Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.

I say shimmery blue/pink is perfect. Or anything pearlised.

Nice2try · 01/10/2021 23:02

I always wore black varnish teamed with black lace fingerless gloves. The height 80's sophistication.

Eaumyword · 01/10/2021 23:06

Definitely pearly/frosted colours like pink or peach!
Or red like Madonna.

MercyBooth · 01/10/2021 23:57

YY @minipie They were. I remember Rimmel Black Cherry lipstick.

drigon · 02/10/2021 00:09

Frosty white or pink or the blue-toned pinky one mentioned.

waybill · 02/10/2021 00:13

Pearlised pink definitely. Teamed with Heather Shimmer lipstick.

Bullsh · 02/10/2021 00:14

Iced champ ink

SirYawnsAlot · 02/10/2021 03:49

In my Madonna booklet, ahem, she was wearing fluorescent yellow, black or white nail polish.

Housewife2010 · 02/10/2021 05:28

In the 80s I loved Rimmel Gold Fever - height of Dynasty glamour on my deeply tanned toes.
