Mumsnet haircut? Who remembers?

I look like a hippy witch on a Van der Graaf generator because I'm immunosuppressed, middle aged, and reluctant to brave the hairdressers.

I was remembering the Mumsnet cut where you do a high ponytail then cut it off for a mid length layered bob.

Anyone tried it or any tips for an easy DIY cut?

Also may be useful for many of us about to be hammered by the various price hikes and UC reduction.

Tried it on dd. The nearer the pony to front of head the shorter the front layers are.

SoisGentil · 01/10/2021 18:07

Makes sense. Did it look ok and did she like it?

Didn’t cut the whimper pony tail off: just half/ third of it.

She did like it enough to ask for it again Grin

If you aren’t careful, you’ll end up with a mullet. Have a look on YouTube for DIY home haircut tips. There are loads of easy to follow tutorials.

Whimper pony tail? Is that a technical term lolGrin

Take off the tiniest bit at a time, otherwise you run the risk of ending up looking like Cadfael.

Rummikub · 01/10/2021 18:09

It looked ok yes. I kept a lot of the length first time and repeated till desired length.

Hawkmoth · 01/10/2021 18:09

I did it a few times. It looked better than my last haircut which was from an actual hairdresser (never going there again, looked a right twat, and now it's growing out I look like an old lady).

SoisGentil · 01/10/2021 18:10

Ballad true, you're quite right.
Almost anything's on YouTube now but I was feeling nostalgic about old Mumsnet.

I tried this last Christmas. Disaster. Don’t!

SoisGentil · 01/10/2021 18:11

Off to google cadfael. I'm getting old-never heard of them...

Atta thanks I needed that. I'm sure you're right. But then again maybe I'll set a new trend Shock

It was better than nothing for me (lockdown in Ireland was incredibly long and gruelling, as, enentually, was my hair...)

SoisGentil · 01/10/2021 18:15

Cadfael. Not sure if it's quite what I'm after Grin

I did it in lockdown and ended up looking like Noddy Holder.

kateclarke · 01/10/2021 18:15

I tried it and ended up with a mullet. Had to do an emergency dash to the hairdressers before I could go to work.

@SoisGentil, you can’t be that old if you’ve not heard of Cadfael Wink. It was a TV murder mystery show in the early 90’s where Derek Jacobi played the eponymous monk with an unfortunate hairdo.

SoisGentil · 01/10/2021 18:18

Ballad Early nineties I was still a student so had no tv!

SoisGentil · 01/10/2021 18:20
