Take a screenshot as proof.

Ensure you have up to date meter readings and wait to hear who will take them over
Can you request a refund online or anything?
You won’t loose your money

I'm with green and Shell Energy have emailed me saying that they are taking over and that my credit balance will be taken over to them too so don't worry.

Oh no! Have bulb gone belly up too? I'm with them.

Morechocmorechoc · 28/09/2021 21:16

Mine says I'm 2k in credit! They won't seem to give it back and keep saying readings are wrong. If you figure out how to get money out of them let me know, I'm very worried now!

userxx · 28/09/2021 21:17

Don't panic, you won't lose the money.

PeterPomegranate · 28/09/2021 21:19

Has Bulb definitely gone bust? I know they were asking for a bailout but I haven’t seen any further definite news?

Lightswitch123 · 28/09/2021 21:20

They haven't gone bust

MrsBungle · 28/09/2021 21:22

Apparently you keep your credit. Take a screen shot. I’m £460 in credit with bulb. I’ve screen shotted my last statement and the front page of account showing my latest credit. I also screen shotted my meter readings.

Whstdoyouthink · 28/09/2021 21:22

I found them last week and asked for it back. They have credited into my account. I had to wait in the phone for about 40 mins

Seeingadistance · 28/09/2021 21:23

Have they gone under?

I emailed them on Sunday asking for refund. Do that, with up-to-date meter readings.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 28/09/2021 21:25

Hmmm I've been on estimated readings for ages and am pretty much +/- 0. Wondering whether I should go out in the rain and read them properly if the are folding.

Whstdoyouthink · 28/09/2021 21:28

They haven’t gone bust but are looking for extra cash/maybe even to be brought out.

Submit meter readings and get the cash out.

Sylvvie · 28/09/2021 21:29

Email them directly for a refund or they will try and only give you part of it!

Sylvvie · 28/09/2021 21:31

In fact, use the direct chat function because if you email their help it picks up on the keywords and tells you to fill out a form. Submit your meter readings and then make sure you talk to a real person or they will keep some of the money "in case of future bills".

EastWestWhosBest · 28/09/2021 21:31

What? Have they gone bust? I’m in debt so I hope not.

acatcalledjohn · 28/09/2021 21:33

I'm around £250 in credit yet they are upping my payments.

Rumour has it Octopus are taking over Bulb.

FrozenoutofCostco · 28/09/2021 21:34

*bought out.
Undisclosedlocation · 28/09/2021 21:35

Bulb have definitely NOT gone bust. They are seeking a refinance option. Family member works there

dementedpixie · 28/09/2021 21:36

Octopus have just taken on Avro's customers. Wonder if they have the capacity for Bulb customers too

Fizzgigg · 28/09/2021 21:38

Funnily enough they emailed me today to say I'm low on credit and to 'top up' my account so I don't overspend in winter. Definitely looking for cash injection (obviously I won't be)

CaddieDawg · 28/09/2021 21:39

Bulb haven't gone under yet. IF they do go under, your credit is protected by ofgem and you'll be transferred to a new supplier. Martin Lewis just states to take a screenshot of your account and current energy readings as/when it happens so you have proof in case their website/online accounts shut down.

SparklingLime · 28/09/2021 21:40

I emailed Bulb and asked for a credit refund of over £800. They replied next day saying it had been actioned (minus one month’s payment) and will be in my account within 5 working days. This is what they tell you to do on their website. I had previously tried by chatbot but waited ages and it never actually got done.
Although Ofgem should ensure credits get passed to new company (if we have to move) there could be glitches according to Martin MoneySavingExpert. Didn’t want to take the chance of delays or problems.

Sturmundcalm · 28/09/2021 21:41

i'm in credit and i view that as a positive, as others have said if they go under then ofgem will ensure your credit balance goes with you to the new provider and you can then choose to move on again if you wish. at least i'm not in the position of some folk who are wondering how they are going to heat their house and feed themselves over the winter!

it's really not helpful for everyone who is in credit to suddenly demand the money back either - cashflow issues can be enough to put some otherwise healthy businesses under!
