If so, are people generally wearing masks or not?

Discussing whether or not to go and see the James Bond film and whether we’d need to wear masks or not. Cinema website sassy not mandatory but advised.
I don’t mind wearing one but dh refuses to do so.

I didn't wear one last time as it wasn't mandatory. When I went before and it was I did until I was in my seat and eating/drinking.

Cazzovuoi · 27/09/2021 21:36

Not in the UK but we went a few times over the last few weeks. Masks are mandatory until you’re sitting. Vaccination certs were checked with our tickets.

Ichangemynameagain · 27/09/2021 21:37

We went a couple of weeks ago, no one had masks on. Mot mandatory at all.

OldTinHat · 27/09/2021 21:37

I go a couple of times a week. Not much mask wearing.

Onlinedilema · 27/09/2021 21:38

Yes, no I did not wear a mask but it was quiet.
I would not enjoy having to wear a mask, I'd probably not go to be honest.
There again I've had to work throughout the entire pandemic and face the public so my take is that leisure time needs to be enjoyable for me.

Littleants · 27/09/2021 21:39

In the west mids not essential but encouraged. No one will challenge you. Its not like hospitals where it can be enforced as you go there in need.

ufucoffee · 27/09/2021 21:41

You don't need to wear one in the cinema here. I wouldn't go if you did.

MrsDThomas · 27/09/2021 21:41

Im going this weekend. If I don’t have to, i certainly won’t wear it.

Ceebeegee · 27/09/2021 21:43

I went on Saturday, didn't see anyone wearing a mask. Staff weren't wearing them and none of the customers I saw were wearing one either.
It was very quiet compared to a Saturday evening pre covid , I think there was 8 of us in total. Not sure how the cinemas are making money (the probably aren't!)

wendz86 · 27/09/2021 21:44

We went a few weeks ago and didn’t see anyone wearing a mask .

TurnUpTurnip · 27/09/2021 21:44

Yes and no one was wearing one.

Blendabrethin · 27/09/2021 21:45

I went in the holidays, there was no mask wearing. Tbf, who would go to a cinema if you had to wear a mask? Glasses wearers wouldn't be able to see and you wouldn't be able to eat your popcorn 😐 It would not be a relaxing experience.

TurnUpTurnip · 27/09/2021 21:46

I’m another that wouldn’t have went if you had to wear, none of the staff was wearing them either and this was odeon

greenlynx · 27/09/2021 21:46

I’m not a great Bond fan so not planning to go this weekend. And as it will be for more than 2 hours, I wouldn’t like to wear mask for so long.
DD and I went in August, people were without masks but tbh there were only few of us as it’s during the day.

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2021 21:48

DH & DS went last night. Masks on entry, vaccination certs checked then masks kff when sat down. We're in Ireland where rules are stricter, so if you're in the UK you'll be fine.

middleager · 27/09/2021 21:51

No. I've been several times. There is no distancing between seats either.

BakewellTarter · 27/09/2021 21:51

Even a few times, no masks. I wouldn't go if there were tbh.

JaninaDuszejko · 27/09/2021 21:53

I went two weekends ago to a Vue. No mask wearing, lots of air conditioning and not many people.

I was at a theatre this weekend and they were telling us to put on masks as we entered the theatre so very different. Theatre was almost full so no social distancing. Must be hard for theatres, masks are the only defence they have, they can't afford to enforce social distancing and the buildings are often old and don't have fresh air circulation. But, TBF, once you got swept up in the show (Blood Brothers, it was fab) you forgot about your mask.

badlydrawnbear · 27/09/2021 21:53

I went a few weeks ago before DC went back to school. No one else was wearing a mask, but it wasn't very busy.

Motnight · 27/09/2021 21:56

Been to cinemas in London, the South Coast and the east recently. No one wearing masks. Cinemas however less than a quarter full.

QuickieNCforthis · 27/09/2021 21:56

I went in August to an Everyman type cinema (seated on sofas) and intentionally chose it as they would refuse anyone who hadn't booked entry and you could view the map before to see where other parties were seated. I chose a screening where I knew only one other sofa was booked and booked as far away from that one as possible.

I was with a clinically vulnerable family member who was also feeling like they were losing their minds due to depression and cabin fever from having shielded until not long before. It was to hopefully distract them and show them some normal things could be safe. They can't walk so we were sat on ground level. We wore masks.

Anyway we got seated, there was only the only other sofa taken about 7 rows back and they were wearing masks. We felt really safe.

Then after the trailers ended, an usher brought a maskless couple in and asked them where they wanted to sit. They went up the stairs to pick one of the other 45 sofas but then immediately changed their minds, came back down the stairs and parked themselves immediately next to my relatives wheelchair and the pair of them proceeded to cough and blow their noses loudly for the whole thing as they were full of a cold. There were only 3 sofas on the wheelchair accesible row so we couldn't move as would just have ended up on the other side of them. We both became ill a few fays afterwards with the same thing.

So that wasn't great and I haven't been back since as it's not really been worth the risk. We've got a very high level of case rates where I live.

I went prior to the mandatory masks being lifted a few times as well. We were all supposed to wear masks back then but no one except me was bothering. I think now you'll find most people won't be wearing them at all now.

Take it you didn't buy any sweets or popcorn then?

It cost us the better part of 20 pounds for two drinks and two popcorns.

imnottoofussed · 27/09/2021 21:58

I've been a few times. Nearly everyone wearing a mask except when in seats and eating. Seats are socially distanced with an empty seat between bookings but not really required as I'd say only about 1/4 full.

Jigsawprison · 27/09/2021 22:03

Ours is a local independent one.
They've got rid of one way systems. Encouraged to wear masks when moving around but not sitting and it's not compulsory.
Also encouraging online ticket sales to reduce contact.
On the whole its quite a normal experience.

Crookedshoes · 27/09/2021 22:04

I’ve been a few times both before and after masks were mandatory. I still wore a mask and there was enforced space between seats upon booking. You don’t have to wear a mask and you won’t be turned away if you do but I don’t get why you wouldn’t wear one if you’re okay to do so.
