so what are you going to do when there is no more petrol at all?

All these people all over the media and social media saying why they personally need petrol over other people, because their job is more important/their need is greatest/they have no alternative, or whatever.

They don't seem to realise that petrol is expected to run out completely in their life time anyway. 4-5 decades, most projections, although it is likely to become unavailable to private citizens a long time before that, maybe 20-30 years before.

What are these people planning to do then?

What are these people planning to do if the country does run out next week, or next month, or next year, any of which is possibly after Brexit, and what are they planning to do in a world or a country without petrol?

  1. We are not running out of petrol and won’t do for decades and decades. It will just be more expensive.
  2. The above is a moot point anyway because hardly anyone will be driving a petrol car in 10 years time.
Gyredjk · 25/09/2021 14:28

I'll be dead by then

Redwinestillfine · 25/09/2021 14:30

Adapt. We don't use our car much anymore now working from home. If the culture changes they'll be needed a lot less.

1forAll74 · 25/09/2021 15:07

No petrol,, so the motley crews of motorway protesters can spread themselves all along the M25 or wherever, as no vehicles to hold up.So they will just have to go and protest about something else somewhere..maybe glue themselves to some railway tracks,if they don't like trains.

What a mad post. Fossils fuel is available for centuries. Educate yourself.

I’d be genuinely interested to know where you’re educating yourself. I’d love to find out that there remains enough fossil fuels for centuries. Coal maybe.
Bluntness100 · 25/09/2021 18:10

There is enough fossil fuels literally for centuries, it’s just harder to get to and the Middle East owns the majority of it.

And quite frankly where I get my knowledge is none of your business. But I assure you I am factually correct

Petrol running out. Lol. It’s the most ludicrous comment I’ve ever read. If petrol runs out it means crude oil has, and do you know what that’s used as the base to produce? Nearly everything. It’s not running out

It’s just harder to get to.

ohdeariforgot · 25/09/2021 18:11

I'll have plenty of time to plan if petrol runs out in a few decades.... I hadn't planned to run out this weekend!

RedElephants · 25/09/2021 18:16

Hand my notice in I guess...
A return bus ticket isn't viable..

I’m aware of that, which is why I said I’d genuinely be delighted to know there’s still centuries worth of the stuff.

PattyPan · 25/09/2021 18:32

I've never bought petrol/diesel so I imagine I'll cope fine without it

Innovationstandard · 25/09/2021 18:41

We can't use it for centuries though? Climate change. Must admit I do really worry about where we're all going . .

DerAlteMann · 25/09/2021 18:44

how many bloody petrol threads does one site need?

In 4 to 5 decades there won't be any petrol or diesel cars

I am educated thank you. Some fossil fuel is likely to be available long term, but is unlikely to be used, due to the catastrophic environmental impact.

Petrol, however, will not be available long term.

I am perfectly well aware what crude oil is, and what it is used for.

However this thread is specifically about privately owned petrol transport

Why not? Its possible that it will become unavailable at any time. Its also possible that you will be banned from driving by this time tomorrow if you have an episode of vertigo this evening. Why don't you have contingency plans?

Bit of a stupid question to ask since there are more than 4 decades to plan and facilitate a switch over.

Wales is investing in hydrogen but central gov is an ass and should be heavily investing in this area to bring it forward. There is a 1 year trial of some hydrogen powered cars in Abergavenny. Look up Riversimple, I think it is. Gov must not be allowed to push blue hydrogen (from fossil fuels) just green hydrogen made from the air
I saw a Honda advert about developing hydrogen powered cars years ago but never seen it since
Chloemol · 25/09/2021 21:45

We are not running out of fuel. There is plenty, the storage at the ports is full, fuel is being delivered into the country as normal

The media have scaremongered as normal, within a couple of days it should settle down

As to the future, be it electric, hydrogen or wind power the Government had better get a crack on, although I firmly believe we will be pushing back dates

Why on earth would you state it's none of the op's business where you get your knowledge from Bluntness? It's good to share knowledge surely.
waybill · 25/09/2021 22:31

With 4-5 decades' notice, I'm sure I'd be able to buy an electric car and get a charging point installed at the front of my house, have the cable run under the garden and the public footpath, and up by the kerb, so it is in the right place to charge the car.

Next week, however, I have enough fuel to get me to and from work on Monday and Tuesday. After that, we'll have to see, won't we?

blacksax · 25/09/2021 22:44

What an utterly batshit thread.

If the country is out of fuel next week, then I'll have to stay at home. My work is too far away to walk or cycle, there are no trains and the buses won't be running.

And no, my job can't be done from home, it requires my physical presence. Although if we are getting no goods in, and can't send orders out... I won't have a job to go to.
