Would you be disappointed?

DH (I think we were only dating at that point) once booked a romantic weekend away at the University of Bangor student halls, which had been turned into holiday accommodation over the summer. We still laugh about it.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 25/09/2021 09:05

I've been to that one and it is very nice. The location is great too.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 25/09/2021 09:08

That premierinn is decent tbf

Potcallingkettle · 25/09/2021 09:12

We’re going away in a few weeks and DH has booked a hotel that’s not a Premier Inn. I now have fear of the unknown. In my experience, Premier Inn is always comfy and you know exactly what you’re getting whereas other hotels have often failed to live up to their promises despite being more expensive. If you can get a PI in a good location, it’s worth it.

littlefireseverywhere · 25/09/2021 09:16

Seems perfectly reasonable given that explanation

BeaLola · 25/09/2021 09:18

He sounds very thoughtful

I have never stayed at a bad Premier Inn - family room is good for us with one DS, breakfasts great and bed lovely.

Love Newcastle - for Earlier poster saying hotels dear there not in my experience - we stayed there in August in the Clayton/Maldrin for three of us incfab breakfast for £60 - was great

clareykb · 25/09/2021 09:27

We live in Newcastle and he's right it is in a good location. Tbh better than some of the mid range places.

anonymousanne · 25/09/2021 09:31

Not at all. Don't see the fuss about spending a fortune on a posh hotel for the night personally. Would be happy for the money to be spent on the entertainment, drinks, meal. Unless he is very wealthy and being particularly stingy I think you'd be ungrateful to not just have a lovely time away, enjoying each other's company and the offer of a treat!

Mhc19 · 25/09/2021 09:37

If you're wanting a meal, drinks and shopping etc so planning to be out most of the time then its fine. If you were wanting a nice relax and it's your first break from the kids in a long time then I'd be disappointed, but still grateful he tried. You know what you're getting with a premier inn and I find them better than a Travelodge

Viviennemary · 25/09/2021 09:39

Its cheeky. Unless he is very hard up.

Smartiepants79 · 25/09/2021 09:45

@Viviennemary

Its cheeky. Unless he is very hard up.
Why is it cheeky??Confused It’s a perfectly nice place to sleep for the night. If you want a really expensive hotel then pay for it yourself. Expensive hotels are for special occasions and celebrations. Save the money for enjoying your day out!
rosegoldwatcher · 25/09/2021 09:45

Premier Inns - ideal for a short stay. No surprises but no disappointments either as you will know exactly what to expect; decent shower over bath, plenty of hot water, clean room, large bed.

When my son was at university in Manchester we made regular trips to visit him and usually stayed in a budget hotel (Best Western franchise.) The rooms were fine, breakfast really good.
But on one occasion I had a fancy for something more picturesque and booked a room in a large, pretty, white rendered hotel in its own grounds. The bed was tiny and we had a very uncomfortable night!
We reverted to Best Western from then on.

Iggly · 25/09/2021 09:45

@Viviennemary

Its cheeky. Unless he is very hard up.
It’s cheeky to be so entitled to think that premier inn isn’t enough!
Saracen · 25/09/2021 09:46

That sounds really nice, assuming you like the area and enjoy the idea of dinner and drinks beforehand. I'd be pleased.

ancientgran · 25/09/2021 09:46

@brewstew

I'd be happy with a Premier Inn. They're clean, the bed and pillows are really comfortable and they do a decent breakfast. We've stayed at more expensive places and have rarely felt they're worth the money.
This is so true. Had a weekend away last month at a Premier Inn, it was great. Nice room, nice bed, good breakfast. Went to the same city a couple of years ago, stayed at a hotel that cost 4 or 5 times as much and it was noisy, the bed was uncomfortable. As long as you do nice stuff and enjoy yourselves why would it be an issue?
couchparsnip · 25/09/2021 09:47

Premier Inns are great. Much better than the other budget chains. To be honest I've stayed in more expensive places that weren't so good. They don't have mini bars or room service but other than that they are just as good as a 4 star.

Ting20161987 · 25/09/2021 09:53

Don't understand your problem

TartanJumper · 25/09/2021 09:58

Wouldn't bother me.

FillyerBoots · 25/09/2021 10:03

It’s a great location. And it’s quiet which is rare in a Newcastle hotel.

I’m not snobby about premier inns but I have stayed in them a lot. So when going away next month we’ve treated ourselves to The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel…..

DarlingFell · 25/09/2021 10:04

Hell yes. Nothing wrong with a premier inn as a stop gap. Somewhere to lay your head, but it’s hardly a romantic environment 😂

Ariela · 25/09/2021 10:08

Depends. I booked one in Goodrington Sands Paignton and had the worst, most uncomfortable bed ever. But the sea view was lovely as was the proximity to the beach.

Staryflight445 · 25/09/2021 10:12

I really wouldn’t mind one bit.

StCharlotte · 25/09/2021 10:13

@neettfeet

Sorry everyone I fell asleep 🙈 The plan is to go to Newcastle next Saturday for the day /night. It's the one on the quayside. Going for food and cocktails around Newcastle. He said he booked as it's in a good location.
In that case I wouldn't be disappointed at all.

Premier Inns are generally very good in my experience. They may not be historic or have lovely spas or four posters but they are usually in good locations and are perfect as a base especially if you're out on the lash.

Have a great time Smile

neettfeet · 25/09/2021 10:13

He said the less money he spends on the hotel the more he will have for nice food /drinks.
Which I do understand
I had set my heart on the malmaison or hotel du vin.

I love a premier inn. Especially the breakfast.
