Would you be disappointed?

Trying not to waste money or use credit card.

So why on earth would you want to spend 4x the amount you need to on a bed to sleep in for one night ? Confused

I do have to say, despite your protestations, you do sound ungrateful.

@Sprostongreen21

Me and my partner feel the same about hotels: mostly a base so we stay in cheap and cheerful and actually have stayed in lovely places. We stay in B&Bs when we visit the lakes each year. Even stayed in hostels ( own room). For city breaks we would rather the spending money to be honest. We aren’t high earners so it works for us and we can have more breaks/trips away.

We’ve stayed in nicer/expensive places as one offs but I’m not that fussy over hotels. As long as it’s clean, reasonably modern and good location!

Myself and two friends stayed in a hostel in York for a couple of nights a few years ago. We has our own room which was very basic but spotlessly clean and perfectly comfortable. It had a telly and a kettle and tea and coffee. We even got biccies which are often sadly absent in hotel rooms these days!!

I've also stayed there. It's really very nice and the staff are lovely. We booked for 2 nights and ended up extending it to 5.

@neettfeet

Sorry everyone I fell asleep 🙈
The plan is to go to Newcastle next Saturday for the day /night.
It's the one on the quayside.
Going for food and cocktails around Newcastle.
He said he booked as it's in a good location.

I've stayed there, it's great.

Most of our trips away are spent in a Premier Inn. Leaves more cash for the good/fun stuff. It's only a bed and a loo anyway.

As I was reading this I was thinking about another thread where the poster wondered where all the 'normal men' had gone.

If this is the way 'normal men's' ideas of a weekend away are thought of, no wonder they're in hiding!

I think you're very ungrateful, OP, and can't understand some people's thinking.

Not really we do expensive hotels and premier inns

I would just be glad to be away, the room’s in the other hotel may be nice but you aren’t going to be up all night looking at it are you, unless you sleep with your eyes open. Hope you have a lovely time.

True, but if she’s constantly paying for Malmaisons that he gets to stay in for free whilst he pays for Premier Inns, then she will grow resentful.

It wouldn’t be right to expect him to book expensive hotels so OP can only change her response - which is to match his budget

Well clearly communication is the key.
Why dont they just talk to each other about expectations rather than let things build up!
As a side I bet he isnt even fussed about staying in malmaison and would have been just ad happy elsewhere.

I won a break to the Malmaison Manchester and it was great. I enjoyed it. The bathroom bits were very scented and the breakfasts were great. Bizarrely I like a premier Inn just as much as once you have a clean room in a good location everything else is just window dressing. I would never pay for the Malmaison as to me it doesn't really offer much over a premier Inn. And lucky for me, neither would DH.

I haven't been away from home since Feb 2020 so I'd be thrilled to go to a Premier Inn!

BoredZelda · 25/09/2021 16:25

so it will just be me on the morning having breakfast etc

Can’t beat a premier inn breakfast!

Nope. I’d love it, and I speak as someone who has spent plenty time in Marriott, Hilton, Fairmont hotels and the like. I love a premier inn.

For nights like that, location is key!
It's not like you'll be spending much time there.

Does he know you’ve booked the Malmaison in Manchester?

Change it to the Premier Inn.

Don’t feel you have to treat him more than he treats you.

Tbh the standard rooms in malmaison won't offer much more than a PI aside from slightly better decor. Especially if you don't plan to use the facilities (eg spa treatments which come at an extra cost). It's nice for a birthday treat especially if its a suite (at 300 for 2 nights it certainly isn't) but aside from a special occasion it makes much more sense to stay at the PI, even more so if you are planning to go out for meal and drinks and half of your party is rushing off in the morning unable to even use the breakfast. Why on earth would you want a posh hotel in those circumstances

I think some people like more expensive places as they are more insta/Facebook/tik tok whatever friendly. More bragging rights than a premier inn. ‘My boyfriend took me to this expensive hotel/drinks etc I’m such a lucky girl’…. Hmm

@neettfeet

We are going away in 6 weeks to Manchester for his birthday and that hotel for 2 nights has cost £305 so the £200 I've spent for the concert tickets has led to a expensive month.

I won't be in hotel much really In Newcastle as he has to be up at 7am to drive to work the day after so it will just be me on the morning having breakfast etc

You must have got an amazing deal for that Manchester break - two nights in the Malmaison Manchester for just over £300!

Or is it just the Malmaison when he’s paying? 🤔

Trying not to waste money or use credit card.

So stop whining about the Premier Inn! Or is it just YOUR money that you don’t want to waste - his is fair game? 🤨
