Would you be disappointed?

I think it’s fine, I’d rather go away often and stay in Premier Inns than go away seldom and pay £££. I do love hotels though and would look for the best in my budget so can see how you are disappointed. Are there deeper issues? E.g. Are you paying for all the food when he stays with you so this was supposed to be his way of making it up to you? Is he a wannabe cocklodger in other ways?

narkyspirit · 25/09/2021 08:08

I took my partner away recently for her birthday to a Boutique Spa place as a surprise, miserable cow moaned the whole time we where there.

Apparently she would have rather stayed at home, she will be in future!!! Parted company the following week.

I love a premier inn (good brekkie & mattress) and I’ve actually stayed at that one although admittedly it was over 10 years ago. It’s a good location but lots of groups stay for the reason you guys are so it’s definitely not a romantic setting. I remember being quite hungover the next day. Was a good night out! Have fun x

Itstheprinciple · 25/09/2021 08:09

As long as he also booked the breakfast, I'd be happy!

thisplaceisweird · 25/09/2021 08:10

Sounds like the night out part is the main event and the hotel is just 'somewhere to sleep' so in that case, no, I'd be fine with it.

If I was promised a romantic luxury night away then I would be disappointed, but accept we had to work better on communication/setting expectations.

ShakespearesSisters · 25/09/2021 08:13

We stayed in the one on the docks in Liverpool this summer. Ended up with a top floor corner room, most amazing views of the city. There are often in the most amazing locations and sounds like that one is too. Just what you need on a city break.

slashlover · 25/09/2021 08:13

I've booked myself a night away in a Premier Inn next month because I love them so much. Comfortable bed, great shower and a nice breakfast, the rooms are always, really really quiet and the have proper blackout curtains too. Even better, because I booked early, I got a Premier Plus room for £36. I've stayed in rooms that cost triple that and weren't as comfortable.

Rach888 · 25/09/2021 08:15

I bloody love a premier inn. We can afford higher end hotels but usually choose Premier Inn for city breaks. Great locations, their beds are better, they do an all you can eat breakfast. At the end of the day, it’s just a place to crash after your night out!

worriedatthemoment · 25/09/2021 08:19

Sounds fine to me , night day out and then hotel, i

Kezzie200 · 25/09/2021 08:21

She's lucky she lasted a week after that! Congrats on the escape!

It sounds like it's in a good location for what you want to do. Also, you know it's going to be of a certain standard inside, comfy beds, modern, clean. Some old hotels look lovely but when you get there, they smell of mould, the extractor fan makes an awful noise, heating doesn't work very well.

Obviously isn't what you had in mind (and I don't know Newcastle) but I'd be more than happy if DH booked it for me. Hope it's better than you think when you get there and you have a lovely time.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/09/2021 08:26

@neettfeet

Sorry everyone I fell asleep 🙈 The plan is to go to Newcastle next Saturday for the day /night. It's the one on the quayside. Going for food and cocktails around Newcastle. He said he booked as it's in a good location.
It is in a really great location and I'd be very pleased with that!!

Newcastle such a fun city and the thing about premier inn's is that they are pretty reliable. he could have booked somewhere that looked good on paper but ended up tired and dingy and reeking of smoke (I mean you winchester royal)

I'd go and have a fab weekend

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/09/2021 08:28

After reading the thread on here recently where posh hotels don't even clean the rooms properly and use dirty towels to clean the glasses and cups - I'd actually be happy about the premier inn!

Smartiepants79 · 25/09/2021 08:28

Sounds totally fine to me.
Premier inns are clean and comfy and in walking distance. And reasonably priced.
Money saved to spend on other things.
If he’s a millionaire then I might think it’s a bit tight but …
It’s perfect for a base to explore a new city. You’re not going to be in it much. And it has everything you need.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/09/2021 08:28

I love a premier Inn. Comfy bed, you know what you are getting. I'm a firm believer that hotels should either be a posh, plush suite with sitting area, massive bath tub, hot top etc or a premier Inn. Anything in-between seems pointless, what do you do in the hotel room except sleep and possibly shag?

Oldraver · 25/09/2021 08:29

Well to be honest, all hotels are in a good location as Newcastle is compact and easy to walk round

The Albert Dock premier Inn is one of my favourite hotels ever. Such an interesting, historic building that's been so cleverly converted.
sansucre · 25/09/2021 08:30

Yes, I would be disappointed to be taken to a Premier Inn full stop. I don't care if this makes me a snob.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/09/2021 08:30

no its in a good location, you are going out for the evening.
it is just the lack of breakfast.

Justonemoreepisode · 25/09/2021 08:30

Premier Inn sounds ideal for the weekend planned - if your walking about all day, shopping/cocktails at night you’ll want somewhere close. It really is just a base to get your head down - if much rather a cheap hotel and use the extra money for a nice meal.
Sounds like he has planned a lovely getaway for you - enjoy 😊

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 25/09/2021 08:32

I'd be shocked and very happy but wonder where he'd got the money from.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/09/2021 08:32

i didnt know they provided breakfast?

NYNYNYNYNYNYNYNYNYNYNYNYN · 25/09/2021 08:33

@StarryStarrySocks

I love a Premier Inn! I'd be more disappointed if we didn't go to one! Grin
Me too 🤣🤣. The beds are so comfy
TheIrritableGoldfish · 25/09/2021 08:33

@Ragwort

Like others I really like Premier Inns, I would always choose one if going away .. in fact we have chosen one for a weekend in London next month.

I have been to quite a few supposedly 'upmarket' hotels which have been very disappointing and a lot more expensive that a PI. Your weekend in Newcastle sounds great.

(I would recommend Holiday Inn though - two separate double beds and only a little more expensive Grin). Depends what you are going for though ....

You only pay for the room at a PI, so I always book for four adults then we get two doubles, but then I think you and I are wanting different things to the op.

OP why spend a fortune if you are going to be out of the hotel for most of the time?
