See picture - it's about the length of my index finger and metal. DH suspects criminal intent! Can anyone identify it?

LOL at all the posters who suddenly know what lock picking tools look like!

It looks like a hinge from a tool box.

toocold54 · 24/09/2021 22:53

I’m glad you found out what it was!
I thought it was too short to be a lock pick but I had no idea what it could be.

Dinkydody · 24/09/2021 23:07

Looks more like a window latch 🤔

Lockheart · 24/09/2021 23:11

Fucking lockpick indeed, just look at the bloody thing. All these middle class mothers in Surrey with arts degrees and a Volvo who suddenly know exactly what a lockpick looks like. Grin

I'm glad someone with rather more sense has been able to prove what it is.

QuestionableMouse · 24/09/2021 23:19

It's not a lock pick. Too thick and clunky. Looks like a punch down tool.

QuestionableMouse · 24/09/2021 23:20

@Omemiserum

Hoof pick ?
No.

You realise lock picking kits have been popular 'Christmas gifts for him' for some time now? They almost always come up on amazon gift suggestions. I bought dh one at least 5 years ago. It came in a little case with all the tools and a clear padlock. Kept him good for a week.
Thistoastsucks · 25/09/2021 04:43

Just goes to show all those who sounded really sure that it was a lock picking implement were talking out of their arses. It's a bit scary really that if someone hadn't come along with the correct information then this thread would've stood with a whole bunch of scaremongering.

Peoniesandpeaches · 25/09/2021 05:10

@couchparsnip

DH is a telephone engineer. He says it's a tool for punching wires into a telephone exchange. He's now rummaging in his tool kit to find one.

Google Krone Punch down insertion tool.

He is useful for something after all!

Yup definitely this. It would be absolutely no good as a lock pick.
Walnetcream · 25/09/2021 05:41

I own a lock pick set. My brothers also got one. It's not an unusual thing to have.

Yes, it’s always the same though. If there’s a terrifying explanation someone will come up with it and others will agree.

Sure, but it doesn’t even look like one, other than the slight hook. Next people will be saying crochet hooks are lock picks.
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/09/2021 06:58

@MintJulia

OP, don't touch it with your fingers.

Bag it using a new sandwich bag if you have one, tag it with time, date, location, and then tomorrow take it to the police.

... and get some of the blue and white tape the police use to seal off a crime area. Oh and put on some white overalls. Grin

Op found out what it is ages ago
MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/09/2021 07:40

it does look like something from a door or a window

MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/09/2021 07:42

ah

Bythemillpond · 25/09/2021 08:01

I think the hook looks too curved and thick to be a lock pick (Not that I know what a lock pick looks like.). I think it is some type of latch or hinge because of the ellipse shaped cut out.
Could the postman have dropped it.

Damn! I was going to suggest the tool that Egyptians used for sticking up a dead persons nose to pull the brain out. That would have been much more interesting that a wire inserter.

Can you imagine the question mark that would hang over you for the rest of your life if you found an Ancient Egyptian brain remover on your doorstep?

You woulda fair got the scaremongering bandwagon rolling!

powershowerforanhour · 25/09/2021 08:30

Next day...OP finds a big roll of white bandage on the doorstep...and one of those urns they put the entrails in.

But those who have them because they are popular would know that this isn't one. Those commenting insisting that's what it is clearly aren't in the know lock picker owners. 😆

TerrifiedandWorried · 25/09/2021 09:32

@powershowerforanhour they are called canopic jars which is appropriate for this thread Grin
