When you do your weekly food shop.
We don't get all the fancy branded organic bits but...
Eggs! Nothing beats a poached burford brown on some seeded bread!

The things we try buy the best of is -
Eggs
Bog roll (absolute must)
And free range meat.

What are your best of the best necessities? Grin

A lot of things really, I hate when DH does the shopping because he always goes for the cheaper options insisting there’s no difference but for some things there really is.

Definitely:

Tinned tomatoes
Fresh tomatoes
Fish - we don’t eat meat and only very occasional fish so when I buy it I’m very selective (except I do sometimes like the occasional fishfinger, but only certain ones)
Teabags have to be Yorkshire tea or twinings
Butter has to be lurpak - I’ve tried to like the Aldi version but it doesn’t cut it

Ooh that's easy - bed linen and garden furniture. Sleeping and being in my garden are two of my greatest delights.

SophieHMS · 24/09/2021 20:31

And Malvern sea salt. A life changer

Poppetts1234 · 24/09/2021 20:36

Mayo- hellmans
Ketchup- heinz
Bread- multi seed sour dough
Tea bags- twinings or Yorkshire tea
Bin bags
Shoes
Car Tyres (we’ve gone through too many cheap ones)
White goods

Siennabear · 24/09/2021 20:51

Coffee, shampoo, conditioner, washing liquid, cars, gym membership Definitely worth paying more for certain things.

ChocolateHoneycomb · 24/09/2021 20:52

Diet Coke, not supermarket own versions

Fresh interesting bread

Ground coffee, pods (supermarket finest type level)

Shoes (not super expensive but mid range eg. Clark’s level)

Stillperky39 · 24/09/2021 20:53

Free range meat. Decent fish. Filtered milk. Free range eggs (can't bear yellow yolks, has to be orange colour yolk) , detol sprays, fairy washing up liquid, lenor and decent shampoo and conditioner. Everything else is bargain buys 😁

EezyOozy · 24/09/2021 21:00

Chopped tomatoes

Empressofthemundane · 24/09/2021 21:07

Isigny Ste-Mère Unpasteurised Salted Butter
Fresh chicken liver for the cat
De Cecco pasta
Organic milk and yogurt

I’m totally happy with cheap loo roll, cheap tinned tomatoes, and any brand of Mayo!

Maskless · 24/09/2021 21:11

Coleslaw.

BoredZelda · 24/09/2021 21:14

Heinz sauces. Others are like vinegar.

Toilet roll - Andrex quilted, anything else gives me a rash.

Cereals. Has to be Kellogg’s, own brands go mushy.

Heinz beans - all others are mainly sauce and the beans are hard.

Galaxy chocolate. Anything else, especially Cadbury is overly sweet and claggy.

Domestos bleach. Others are just not thick and you end up using more.

Dishwasher tablets

Aldi’s own brand dishwasher tablets consistently score highest in Which? testing. We recently switched to a named brand, and found they aren’t as good as the Aldi ones.

Maskless · 24/09/2021 21:15

Twinings Assam teabags.

Pink himalayan sea salt (NEVER plain white table salt)

5 kinds of peppercorn mix, which I then grind myself

Extra virgin olive oil

Maskless · 24/09/2021 21:16

I also always buy the very best Andrex toilet roll

Egghead68 · 24/09/2021 21:18

Tomatoes
Sweet potato fries (strong roots brand only)

kitkatsky · 24/09/2021 21:24

Bin bags and sellotape- cheap stuff is such a false economy

Standrewsschool · 24/09/2021 21:28
