Awake in the night...

I can hear the wind gusting off the nearby ocean.... the crunching of chicken as the cats enjoy a midnight feast..

Nothing

Absolutely nothing!

The dishwasher is running downstairs. The cat is getting comfortable next to me.

I've just got home from a concert so I've got 'gig ears' - constant ringing for the next 24 hours!

Train shuddering past

I have Keeping Up Appearances on but it's on mute

Clock ticking, fan in the bathroom rumbling, Fox moving around down the side of the house.

An animal noise. Could be cat or fox. Very distant. DH breathing.

Waves crashing and faint sound of police sirens.

DP Snoring

Absolutely nothing at all.

lying in bed i can hear my DH breathing
the cars on the main road outside driving past and the fizzing of the contents of my can of diet coke that is sat on my bedside table.

I know it sounds bonkers but I can hear what sounds like electricity fizzing or my radiators but it can’t be radiators as they are mist definitely switched off. Can also hear the occasional sigh and snore of husband.

Aircon

3y/o open mouth breathing behind me in bed.
1y/o fidgeting in her cot on the monitor.
DH breathing on the other side of 3y/o.
Cat lightly purring on my feet.
And very distantly through the open window I can hear the odd car driving far away. A sound which I weirdly love to hear and reminds me of holidays?! It sounds almost like when you hold a shell up to your ear.

Absolute silence, broken occasionally by drunk students walking home or a boy racer with a backfiring car. You get used to it!

I'm not looking forward to the bloke that walks past every morning at 6am, and without fail coughs and hocks and spits a load of phlegm right outside my flat. Makes me feel sick.

Hum of motorway traffic in the distance, ringing from tinnitus, my breathing..

Silence till a bell goes off, night shift worker.

Nothing at all. I was woken up by an owl, came downstairs and did hear the toilet cistern dripping for a bit. But now nothing at all.

The hustle and bustle of my colleagues and radio transmissions. I
'm desperate for my bed but still 3hrs to go.

Just my fan. I can't stand hearing breathing noise from my husband so it drowns him out.

The filter on my fish tank, nothing else.

Not so D DP snoring

Chickens, clucking excitingly as they surf in off the waves which crash on the shore. The rooster crowing on the dunes, calling them in, emboldening them for the long march across the sand towards the house on the hill. Where the cat is quickly crunching his biscuits, as if the fall of Saigon is imminent. He loves the smell of napalm in the morning too.
